Gương mặt Chị luôn toả ra niềm an bình thanh thoát. Người ta có cảm tưởng hồn Chị đã tới đích duy nhất, Chị ước mong trong suốt cả đời. Như Thầy Chí Thánh trước khi thở hơi cuối cùng, Chị cũng trịnh trọng bảo tôi hôm trước ngày lìa trần:</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top:6.8pt;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:0in;text-align:justify;line-height:200%;"><span style="line-height:200%; font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">“Mọi sự đều tốt đẹp, mọi sự đã hoàn tất, chỉ có tình yêu là đáng kể!”.</span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; "> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top:6.8pt;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:0in;text-align:justify;line-height:200%;"><span style="line-height:200%; font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Dằn vặt thể xác Chị chịu trong những tháng cuối đời thực là đau đớn, vì </span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">ngoài bệnh phổi, Chị còn bị lao ruột và vì Chị gầy quá nên vết thương càng </span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">loang lở thêm. Trong những lúc đó, Mẹ Agnès de Jésus coi Chị </span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">thay tôi và ghi chép tất cả những lời Chị nói. Nhờ tài liệu chính xác này, chúng </span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">tôi nhớ được những sự kiện như ngày mới xảy ra vậy.</span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; "> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top:6.8pt;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:0in;text-align:justify;line-height:200%;"><span style="line-height:200%; font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Sau lần thổ huyết đầu tiên vào tối thứ Năm rạng ngày thứ Sáu Tuần Thánh năm </span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; "><span style="color:black; ">1896, Chị Têrêsa Hài Đồng Giêsu sung sướng vì được phép sống nhiệm nhặt cho </span><span style="color:black; ">đến hết mùa Chay, nhiệm nhặt trong cả hôm đó và hôm sau, vì chị luôn có mặt </span><span style="color:black; ">trong các giờ đạo đức, nên tôi không ngờ là Chị đã thổ huyết. Tuy thế tôi biết </span><span style="color:black; ">Chị phải khổ sở rất nhiều vì chay tịnh năm đó. Nhưng theo như thường lệ, Chị </span><span style="color:black; ">không hề phàn nàn than thở.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top:6.8pt;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:0in;text-align:justify;line-height:200%;"><span style="line-height:200%; font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Hằng ngày lúc đọc kinh Nhật Tụng là lúc bệnh sốt rét lên cơn dữ dội nhất, </span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">nhưng Chị không hề xin nghỉ. Chị phải đau đớn hơn trong khi làm ít việc vặt </span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">như giặt giũ hay phơi quần áo, nhưng Chị luôn giữ không cho chúng tôi hay, dầu </span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">là có dịp thuận tiện cũng vậy.</span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; "> </span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Và Chị can đảm bao nhiêu trong việc chịu đựng những sự săn sóc khắt khe </span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">đau đớn!</span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; "> </span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Chị phải chịu hơn năm trăm vết giác trên lưng (chính tôi đã đếm).</span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; "> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top:6.8pt;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:0in;text-align:justify;line-height:200%;"><span style="line-height:200%; font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Khi bác sĩ làm việc và nói chuyện xã giao với Mẹ Bề trên thì Chị phải đứng </span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">dựa vào thành bàn. Sau này Chị thổ lộ là chị đã dâng những đau đớn ấy để cứu </span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">các linh hồn và nghĩ tới các Thánh tử đạo. Được săn sóc xong, Chị lên phòng, </span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">không đợi ai ngỏ lời thương xót, và Chị run rẩy ngồi xuống trên chiếc nệm rơm </span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">nghèo nàn, âm thầm chịu đựng cơn dằn vặt của lối trị bệnh trên.</span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; "> </span></p>

Chị tỏ lòng biết ơn. Nhưng </span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">không hề kêu trách kiểu chữa bệnh cổ điển thời bấy giờ.</span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; "> </span></p>

Tôi chép lại những danh từ đó tuy không nhớ rõ Chị đã nói vào ngày tháng nào.</span></span></p>
