Lạy Chúa, các tín hữu đều biết thế. Họ tin và họ đã thấy rõ sự chết. Nhưng tại sao nhiều người lại muốn quên đi sự chết, như họ không bao giờ chết cả? Sau khi chết, nếu không có thiên-đàng, hỏa-ngục gì cả, họ có thể ít nghĩ đến sự chết. Sao một số người lại sống xấu xa đến thế?</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Này bạn, nếu bạn muốn sống tốt lành, bạn hãy nhớ luôn trong cuộc sống rằng mình sẽ chết. Bạn hãy xét các việc làm, để điều-chỉnh sao cho các việc làm ngày càng tốt đẹp hơn. Năng nhớ đến sự chết giúp ta ít dính bén đến các thú vui trần thế. Thánh Lô-ren-sô Jus-ti-ni-ăng đã nói: <strong><em>“Hãy nhớ đến ngày tận cùng đời sống, ta sẽ thấy trần thế không có gì đáng yêu cả.”</em></strong></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Thánh Gioan cũng không nói gì khác hơn<em>: <strong>“Mọi sự trong thế gian như ham mê xác thịt, ham mê nhìn ngắm, ham mê giàu sang: tất cả những cái đó không phải bởi Cha trên trời, một bởi thế gian.” (I Gioan 2: 16)</strong></em></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Của-cải, chức-quyền, danh-vọng, thế gian cho là hạnh-phúc, nhưng chầy kíp các điều cho là hạnh-phúc đó sẽ là số không. Cuộc đời chỉ còn lại nắm tro tàn làm mồi cho giòi bọ.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Các thánh xưa đã biết khinh-chê những gì là thú vui trần thế. Thánh Sác-lơ Bôrômêô luôn đặt một sọ người trên bàn để ngày đêm suy ngắm. Đức Hồng-y Ba-rô-ni-ô đã khắc lên chiếc nhẫn ngài đeo: <strong><em>“Hãy nhớ rằng tôi sẽ chết! Memento Mori.”</em></strong></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Được hỏi sao lại hớn-hở khi giờ chết đến, một vị thánh ẩn-tu trả lời: <strong><em>"Tôi luôn nghĩ đến sự chết, nên bây giờ chết đến, tôi không thấy gì mới mẻ, xa lạ cả.”</em></strong></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Nếu một du khách, trên bước đường đi đây đó, chỉ nghĩ đến thụ-hưởng các cuộc vui chơi, không nghĩ gì đến cảnh sống nghèo nàn trong quãng đời còn lại, hỏi có gì điên-rồ hơn? Cũng vậy một người chỉ biết vui thỏa trong quãng đời ngắn ngủi nơi trần thế, để đời đời trầm-luân trong hỏa-ngục, còn gì ngu-xuẩn bằng?</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Không ai dại gì mà mến thương một đồ vật vay mượn cả, vì họ biết sớm muộn gì cũng phải trả lại cho chủ. Của-cải, danh-vọng trần thế là gì, nếu không phải là của vay mượn. Thật dại dột biết bao khi để lòng mê tham chúng, vì chầy kíp ta phải lìa bỏ chúng. Có gì đi nữa, thì sau cùng ta cũng chỉ còn đám tang và nắm tro tàn trong mộ.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Nhà cửa hoặc lâu-đài dinh-thự ta xây để lại cho người khác hưởng dùng, chỉ còn nắm mộ là nơi trú ngụ của thân xác ta cho đến ngày phán xét chung, rồi ta sẽ lên vui hưởng trên thiên-đàng, hay trầm-luân trong biển lửa, mà hồn ta đã đi trước đến đó.</span></p>

Lạy Chúa, con nhận thấy rằng con đã làm rất ít các việc vì lòng mến Chúa. Con còn chờ đợi gì? Có phải con đang chờ đợi tử-thần đến và con nhận chân rằng con thật đáng thương hại, vì đã và đang sống trong tội-lỗi như hiện nay?</span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>

Trăm lần không, lạy Chúa, con không thể để nhận cái chết buồn tủi khốn-nạn như thế?</span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>

Con phải bắt đầu ngay từ bây giờ. Lạy Đấng tốt lành đáng mến yêu, con đau buồn vì đã lỗi phạm đến Chúa, con mến Chúa trên hết mọi sự, hơn cả mạng sống con. Con phó dâng hồn xác con cho Chúa.</span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>

Lạy Đấng cứu-chuộc con, xin cứu giúp con ngay, xin thứ tha con và mưa hồng-ân xuống trên con. Biết đâu giờ nguyện gẫm này, những giòng chữ này, là lòng thương xót sau cùng Chúa dành cho con?</span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>
