Thánh Au-gút-ti-nô nói<em>: <strong>“Mọi sự dầu hay, hay dở, đều không chắc chắn, chỉ sự chết là chắc chắn sẽ xảy đến.”</strong></em></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Ai mà biết được trẻ sơ sinh này giàu hay nghèo, mạnh khỏe hay yếu hèn, sẽ chết già hay chết trẻ; nhưng một điều chắc chắn là trẻ đó sẽ chết. Dầu vương-giả hay quí-tộc, khi sự chết đến, không một sức mạnh nào chống nổi: <strong><em>“Chúng ta có thể chống lại sức tàn phá của nước, lửa, khí giới.</em></strong></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><strong><em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Nhưng không ai trong chúng ta có thể chống nổi sự chết.”</span></em></strong><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>

Bạn có thể đã sống bao năm qua, nhưng sẽ có một ngày và một giờ phút trong ngày nào đó sẽ là giờ phút sau cùng của bạn. Bây giờ tôi đang viết và bạn đang đọc sách này. Đến giờ ấn định, tôi không còn viết và bạn cũng không còn đọc sách được nữa: <strong><em>“Hầu dể có người nào sống mà không phải chết?” (Thánh-vịnh 89: 49).</em></strong></span></p>

Mọi sự trần gian đều hư vô</span></strong><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Bản án đã tuyên, không ai tự hào mình sẽ không chết. Sự việc đã xảy đến cho tổ-tiên chúng ta, nhất định sẽ xảy đến cho chúng ta. Mọi người sẽ lần lượt đi vào dĩ-vãng. Vua chúa, quan quyền đã ở trong các lầu đài, nhưng chết rồi các ngài chỉ còn là nắm tro tàn trong nấm mộ. Thánh Bênađô tự hỏi: <strong><em>“Hãy nói cho biết, đâu là những người và đồ vật yêu quí nhất trần gian?”</em></strong></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Và ngài tự trả lời: <strong><em>“Không còn gì ngoài những nắm tro và giòi bọ!”</em></strong></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Vả lại, khi mà linh hồn bất tử thì chúng ta phải chiếm cho bằng được không phải phần thưởng tạm thời, mà là phần thưởng đời đời. Dầu hưởng được một ít thú vui tạm bợ ở trần gian, để rồi trầm-luân đời đời trong hỏa ngục, thử hỏi vui sướng trần gian là gì?</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Dầu chúng ta có xây được lầu-đài hoàn toàn theo sở thích đi nữa, nhưng chầy kíp chúng ta sẽ bỏ chúng và nằm yên trong mồ. Thử hỏi lầu-đài ích lợi gì cho phần rỗi chúng ta? Nhờ chức quyền, chúng ta ăn trên ngồi trước thiên hạ, nhưng chết rồi, chức quyền còn đâu?</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Lạy Chúa, con là đứa bội bạc, đã bao năm qua con phản nghịch với Chúa. Những năm đó qua đi, có thể giờ chết của con đã gần. Nhìn lại cuộc đời con, con không tìm thấy được gì ngoài lo-âu, buồn-phiền và lương tâm cắn rứt?</span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>

Bao năm qua, thay vì lập công chuộc tội, con đã chồng chất lên vai bao tội ác, mà phép công thẳng Chúa đòi buộc con phải đền trả.</span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>

Xin ban cho con ánh sáng và sức mạnh của Chúa, để con thanh toán nợ nần đối với Chúa. Có thể thần chết không còn cách con bao xa nữa.</span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>

Con cảm tạ Chúa vì Chúa đã chờ đợi con đến nay. Xin cho con đủ thời giờ, để con hàn gắn lại những gì con đã làm mất lòng Chúa.</span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>

Xin đoái nhìn đến con, xin chỉ giáo cho con biết con phải làm gì? Chắc chắn Chúa muốn con than khóc những lỗi-lầm của con. Con xin đau đớn ăn-năn hết lòng. Chắc chắn Chúa muốn con dùng thời gian còn lại của đời sống con để yêu mến Chúa. Con xin yêu mến Chúa hết lòng.</span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>

Không, xin Chúa phù giúp con, đổ hồng-ân trên con. để con đừng bao giờ lỗi phạm nữa. Nếu ngay từ bây giờ con không cải-thiện đời sống, làm sao khi chết con mong được ơn tha thứ và về trời hưởng dung-nhan Chúa?</span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>

Xin Chúa cho con đủ sức mạnh và xin Chúa đừng bỏ rơi con. Chúa không nở quên con, ngay cả khi con còn phản nghịch với Chúa, nên con tin tưởng chắc chắn rằng Chúa sẵn sàng thương giúp con, để con làm những gì đẹp ý Chúa.</span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>
