Họ sầu-khổ khi nghĩ đến những cuộc vui chơi đã qua. Họ sầu khổ khi vị linh-mục thăm viếng họ, khuyên bảo họ chịu phép Giải-tội, phép Mình Thánh Chúa, phép Xức-dầu. Họ đau khổ nhìn lên ảnh Chuộc-tội đặt trước mặt họ, vì họ thấy rõ hình ảnh bội bạc của họ đáp lại tình yêu tuyệt vời của Chúa, vì Ngài đã chết để cứu-chuộc họ.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Họ than thở: <strong><em>“Ôi, tôi dại dột biết bao! Với ánh sáng của Chúa và những cơ-hội Chúa dành cho tôi, tôi phải trở nên vị thánh với cuộc đời no thoả trong ơn Thánh Chúa. Nhưng với những năm sống bê-bối, tôi chỉ còn lại bây giờ nỗi kinh-sợ, chán-chường, nỗi cắn-rứt lương tâm khi phải tính sổ với Chúa. Tôi thật khó mà hy-vọng được cứu-rỗi.”</em></strong></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Khi đang suy nghĩ miên man như thế, thì dầu trong hạnh đèn cháy sắp hết, buổi tuồng kịch trần thế của họ sắp hạ màn. Họ nhìn thấy trong tâm tư hai cảnh đời đời hoàn toàn trái ngược nhau: Hoặc đời đời vui sướng. Hoặc cực kỳ đau khổ vô cùng tận.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Họ đang thở hơi cuối cùng để đi vào cõi vui sướng hay khổ não đời đời. Trong giờ phút đau khổ thể xác chồng chất, trí khôn rối bù, họ ước muốn có thêm nhiều giờ để chuẩn-bị, nhưng có tiếng gọi: <strong><em>“Mau lên, hãy tính sổ lương-tâm trong khoảng thời gian thật ngắn ngủi này và ra đi. Thần chết không chờ đợi hay kính nể bất cứ ai.”</em></strong></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Người tội-lỗi run sợ ngần nào khi tự nói với mình: <strong><em>“Sáng nay tôi đang sống; Chiều nay rất có thể tôi sẽ chết! Hôm nay tôi đang ở trong phòng này; ngày mai tôi sẽ nằm trong mồ! Và linh hồn tôi sẽ ở đâu?”</em></strong></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Người tội lỗi run lẩy bẩy: Khi thấy một cây nến đã chuẩn-bị sẵn sàng để thắp bên giường kẻ chết, khi cảm thấy lạnh toát xuất hiện, khi nghe tiếng thân-nhân bảo mọi người ra khỏi phòng và đừng vào nữa, khi màn đen dần dần bao phủ con mắt và ánh sáng mờ dần. Sau cùng, cái đèn bên giường kẻ liệt được thắp sáng, dấu chỉ trong nháy mắt thần chết đến!</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Ôi! bao sự thật được phơi bày với giá trị thực chất của nó: Những gì trần gian ưa chuộng không gì khác hơn là kiêu-hãnh, dại-dột và lừa-dối! Sao chúng ta không tìm hiểu ngay từ bây giờ những sự thật phũ-phàng đó, để biết dùng thì giờ hiện có sinh lợi ích cho phần rỗi chúng ta?</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Lạy Chúa, không bao giờ Chúa muốn con hư mất đời đời. Trái lại, Chúa muốn con ăn-năn trở lại để được sống. Con cám ơn Chúa đã chờ đợi con đến nay, và chiếu dõi ánh sáng trên con. Con thú nhận những lỗi-lầm của con đã làm mất lòng Chúa.</span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>

Trong quãng đời còn lại của con, xin Chúa luôn chiếu dõi ánh sáng trên con và mưa hồng-ân xuống nơi con, để con biết làm những gì đáng phải làm.</span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt;line-height:150%;"><em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; ">Khi cơn cám-dỗ đến quyến-rũ con phạm tội, xin vì công-nghiệp của Chúa Cứu-thế, cho con đủ sức mạnh chống trả, đừng phạm tội nữa, hầu con đừng làm nô-lệ cho các kẻ thù con. Máu Chúa đổ ra là nguồn hy-vọng của con.</span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>

Con xin yêu Chúa mãi mãi, vì Chúa là Đấng muôn đời đáng mến yêu. Xin Chúa cho con đủ sáng suốt để lánh xa những gì làm con xa rời Chúa, và cho con đủ sức mạnh để con thi hành những gì tốt đẹp mà con mong muốn.</span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p>

Xin cầu-bầu với Chúa Giêsu con Mẹ, giúp con thắng lướt các chước cám dỗ, để đừng bao giờ con xa lìa Chúa nữa.</span></em><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; color:black; "> </span></p></td>
