Ông trao cho người này năm nén bạc, người kia hai nén, người khác nữa một nén, tùy theo khả năng mỗi người, đoạn ông ra đi. Người lãnh năm nén bạc, ra đi và dùng tiền ấy buôn bán làm lợi được năm nén khác. Cũng vậy, người lãnh hai nén cũng làm lợi ra hai nén khác. Còn người lãnh một nén, thì đi đào lỗ chôn giấu tiền của chủ mình. Sau một thời gian lâu dài, ông chủ các đầy tớ trở về và đòi họ tính sổ. Vậy người lãnh năm nén bạc đến, mang theo năm nén khác mà nói rằng: "Thưa ông, ông đã trao cho tôi năm nén bạc, đây tôi làm lợi được năm nén khác". Ông chủ bảo người ấy rằng: "Hỡi đầy tớ tốt lành và trung tín, vì ngươi đã trung tín trong việc nhỏ, ta sẽ đặt ngươi làm những việc lớn, ngươi hãy vào hưởng sự vui mừng của chủ ngươi". Người đã lãnh hai nén bạc cũng đến và nói: "Thưa ông, ông đã trao cho tôi hai nén bạc, đây tôi đã làm lợi được hai nén khác". Ông chủ bảo người ấy rằng: "Hỡi đầy tớ tốt lành và trung tín, vì ngươi đã trung tín trong việc nhỏ, ta sẽ đặt ngươi làm những việc lớn, ngươi hãy vào hưởng sự vui mừng của chủ ngươi".</span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:20.0pt; color:#002060; "> </span></p>

Ông chủ trả lời người ấy rằng: "Hỡi đầy tớ hư thân và biếng nhác, ngươi đã biết ta gặt chỗ không gieo, thu nơi không phát: vậy lẽ ra ngươi phải giao bạc của ta cho người đổi tiền, và khi ta trở về, ta sẽ thu cả vốn lẫn lời. Bởi thế, các ngươi hãy lấy nén bạc lại mà trao cho người có mười nén. Vì người có sẽ cho thêm và sẽ được dư dật, còn kẻ chẳng có, thì vật gì coi như của nó, cũng lấy đi. <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0in;text-align:justify;line-height:200%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:20.0pt; color:#002060; ">Câu chuyện chủ tớ trong bài Tin Mừng làm cho chúng ta suy nghĩ đến ông chủ khác: đó là Thiên Chúa và những người đầy tớ là chính chúng ta. Qua sự việc ông chủ xử phạt người đầy tớ nhận một nén bạc, phải chăng Thiên Chúa ác quá khi đã cho người này ít nhất mà lại còn lấy mất và phạt nặng? Rõ ràng không phải thế. Thiên Chúa yêu thương trao cho mỗi người phần khác nhau trong kế hoạch chung. Ngài không bắt chúng ta phải sinh lợi thật nhiều cho Ngài, vì Ngài đâu thiếu gì và Ngài muốn gì mà chẳng được. Sở dĩ Ngài trao nén bạc và muốn chúng ta sinh lời là để nói lên tình yêu đáp trả của chúng ta trước tình thương của Ngài. Vì thế điều quan trọng là thiện chí, lòng quảng đại và tình yêu của chúng ta đối với Ngài.</span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:20.0pt; color:#002060; "> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0in;text-align:justify;line-height:200%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:20.0pt; color:#002060; ">Lạy Chúa Giêsu, chúng con cũng thấy rằng mình như người đầy tớ thứ ba trong Tin Mừng. Biết bao lần chúng con mặc cảm, chán nản, buồn sầu vì chúng con bất tài, vô dụng, vì chúng con nghèo khổ không được hạnh phúc, danh vọng, sung sướng như những người khác. Chúng con so đo, tính toán thiệt hơn với Chúa, với anh em. Chính vì thế, chúng con không nhận ra những gì Chúa trao ban cho riêng mình để lo sinh lợi cho Chúa. Chúng con còn làm cho nén bạc của Chúa hư phí đi. Xin Chúa tha thứ cho chúng con. Xin giúp chúng con biết tâm niệm rằng: dù chúng con bất tài, thua kém hơn anh chị em chúng con, nhưng được Thiên Chúa yêu thương, thế là quá đủ cho chúng con rồi. Niềm xác tín của Thánh Phaolô nhắc bảo cho chúng con: tôi đành thua lỗ mọi sự, miễn sao được biết Đức Giêsu.
