Xin Chúa quy tụ mọi người vào các chi họ Giacóp, để họ nhìn biết rằng không có Chúa nào khác ngoài Chúa, để họ cao rao các việc lạ lùng Chúa đã làm, và để Chúa cho họ được hưởng phần gia nghiệp như lúc ban đầu. Xin Chúa đoái thương đến dân Chúa, một dân được mang danh thánh Chúa, và xin thương đến Israel mà Chúa đã đặt làm con đầu lòng của Chúa. Xin cũng thương đến thành thánh Giêrusalem, nơi Chúa an ngự. <p style="margin:0in;text-align:justify;line-height:200%;"><span style="font-size:20.0pt; color:#002060; ">Khi ấy, các môn đệ và Chúa Giêsu lên đường đi Giêrusalem, Chúa Giêsu dẫn đầu đi trước họ, và các ông hết sức bỡ ngỡ, những người theo sau thì sợ hãi. Người gọi mười hai ông lại gần và nói cho các ông biết những gì sẽ xẩy đến cho Người: "Giờ đây chúng ta lên Giêrusalem và Con Người sẽ bị nộp cho các thượng tế, các luật sĩ và các kỳ lão. Họ sẽ kết án tử hình Người và nộp Người cho dân ngoại. Họ sẽ nhạo cười Người, phỉ nhổ vào Người, đánh đòn và giết Người, và ngày thứ ba Người sẽ sống lại".</span><span style="font-size:20.0pt; color:#002060; "> </span></p>
<p style="margin:0in;text-align:justify;line-height:200%;"><span style="font-size:20.0pt; color:#002060; ">Giacôbê và Gioan, con ông Giêbêđê, đến gần Người và thưa Người rằng: "Lạy Thầy, chúng con muốn Thầy ban cho chúng con điều chúng con sắp xin Thầy". Người đáp: "Các con muốn Thầy làm gì cho các con?" Các ông thưa: "Xin cho chúng con một người ngồi bên hữu, một người ngồi bên tả Thầy trong vinh quang của Thầy". Chúa Giêsu bảo: "Các con không biết các con xin gì. Các con có thể uống chén Thầy sắp uống và chịu cùng một phép rửa Thầy sắp chịu không?" Các ông đáp: "Thưa được". Chúa Giêsu bảo: "Chén Thầy uống, các con cũng sẽ uống, và phép rửa Thầy sắp chịu, các con cũng sẽ chịu. Còn việc ngồi bên hữu hay bên tả Thầy, thì không thuộc quyền Thầy ban, nhưng là dành cho những ai đã được chỉ định". Mười môn đệ khác nghe chuyện đó liền bực tức với Giacôbê và Gioan. Chúa Giêsu gọi các ông lại gần mà bảo: "Các con biết rằng những người được coi là lãnh tụ các nước thì sai khiến dân chúng như ông chủ, và những người làm lớn thì lấy uy quyền mà trị dân. Còn các con không như thế. Trái lại, ai trong các con muốn làm lớn, thì hãy tự làm đầy tớ anh em. Và ai muốn thành người cầm đầu trong các con, thì hãy tự làm nô lệ cho mọi người. Vì chính Con Người cũng không đến để được phục vụ, nhưng để phục vụ và ban mạng sống mình làm giá cứu chuộc cho nhiều người".</span><span style="font-size:20.0pt; color:#002060; "> </span></p>

<p style="margin:0in;text-align:justify;line-height:200%;"><span style="font-size:20.0pt; color:#002060; ">Vì địa vị, quyền hành đã gây chia rẽ giữa các môn đệ. Điều đó cho thấy mục đích theo Chúa Giêsu của các môn đệ còn thấp kém. Chính vì thế, trước lời loan báo của Đức Giêsu về cuộc khổ nạn, các ông vẫn không hiểu, dù Ngài đã nói đến lần thứ ba. Đức Giêsu thì cương quyết lên Giêrusalem để chấp nhận khổ nạn, còn các môn đệ thì sợ hãi kinh hoàng. Đức Giêsu nói rõ: Con đường của Ngài là con đường đau khổ, là chấp nhận chén đắng. Sự thanh tẩy tức là từ bỏ mình là chấp nhận khiêm tốn phục vụ như một đầy tớ của mọi người. Đó là vinh quang đích thực của Đức Giêsu và của những môn đệ Ngài.</span><span style="font-size:20.0pt; color:#002060; "> </span></p>

<p style="margin:0in;text-align:justify;line-height:200%;"><span style="font-size:20.0pt; color:#002060; ">Lạy Chúa Giêsu, các môn đệ xưa đã không hiểu được con đường của Chúa. Chúng con hôm nay cũng không nhận ra giá trị của đau khổ. Trước khổ đau thử thách, chúng con vẫn than trách Chúa. Chúng con vẫn muốn địa vị, quyền cao chức trọng và muốn người khác kính nể, phục vụ mình. Xin dạy chúng con biết sống tinh thần khiêm tốn của Chúa: biết dùng tất cả những ân huệ Chúa ban để phụng sự Chúa và phục vụ mọi người, cụ thể nơi gia đình, xứ đạo của chúng con.
