<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:200%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; ">Có người đã được Chúa sai đến, tên là Gioan. Ông đến như chứng nhân để làm chứng về sự sáng, hầu mọi người nhờ ông mà tin. Ông không phải là sự sáng, nhưng ông chỉ làm chứng về sự sáng. Và đây là chứng của Gioan, khi những người Do-thái từ Giêrusalem sai các vị tư tế và các thầy Lêvi đến hỏi ông: "Ông là ai?" Ông liền tuyên xưng, ông không chối, ông tuyên xưng rằng: "Tôi không phải là Đấng Kitô". Họ liền hỏi: "Thế là gì? Ông có phải là Elia chăng?" Gioan trả lời: "Tôi không phải là Elia". - "Hay ông là một đấng tiên tri?" Gioan đáp: "Không phải".</span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; "> </span></p>

Họ hỏi Gioan rằng: "Nếu ông không phải là Đức Kitô, cũng không phải là Elia hay một tiên tri, vậy tại sao ông làm phép rửa?" Gioan trả lời: "Tôi làm phép rửa trong nước; nhưng giữa các ngươi, có Đấng mà các ngươi không biết. Đấng ấy sẽ đến sau tôi, nhưng chính Đấng ấy đã có trước tôi và tôi không xứng đáng cởi dây giày cho Người". Việc này xảy ra tại Bêtania, bên kia sống Giođan, nơi Gioan làm phép rửa.</span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; "> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:200%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; ">Đức Giêsu Kitô là ánh sáng từ muôn thuở và tồn tại muôn đời. Ánh sáng đem hạnh phúc đích thực cho con người. Trước lầm tưởng của dân chúng. Gioan không dựa vào thế để tìm vinh quang cho mình, nhưng ông đã chân thành và can đảm dám sống, dám làm chứng cho một chân lý: Ông chỉ là con người hèn mọn, là tôi tớ dọn đường cho Đấng đến sau. Ngài mới là chính Đấng muôn dân đợi trông. Chỉ có Ngài mới đem tự do hạnh phúc đích thực cho con người.</span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; "> </span></p>

Ông sáng suốt để nhận đúng: mình là mình. Ông không ảo tưởng, không tham vọng.</span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; "> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:200%;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; ">Con người với bản tính sa đọa thường không muốn là mình, nhưng muốn làm Thiên Chúa. Ađam - Eva xưa ăn trái cấm vì muốn có quyền biết lành biết dữ như Thiên Chúa, bằng Thiên Chúa. Khoa học kỹ thuật ngày càng tiến bộ khiến con người ngày càng kiêu căng tưởng rằng: đó là do sức lực của mình, mà chối bỏ sự can thiệp đầy tình thương của Thiên Chúa.</span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif; font-size:18.0pt; "> </span></p>
