Lombardi đã ám chỉ đến sự thay đổi đó và ĐTC trả lời. Ngài nói: ”Hồi năm
2014, khi viếng nghĩa trang quân đội Redipuglia ở miền bắc Italia, nhân kỷ
niệm 100 năm thế chiến thứ I bùng nổ, tôi đã bước đi trong thinh lặng giữa
các ngôi mộ. Rồi sau đó, trong thánh lễ, tôi đã giảng, nhưng đây là chuyện
khác. Cũng vậy tôi muốn đến chỗ kinh hoàng tại Auschwitz Berkenau, không có
diễn văn, cũng chẳng có đám đông, chỉ một vài người cần thiết. Một mình đi
vàoi, cầu nguyện, và xin Chúa ban cho tôi ơn được khóc”.</font></p>
