tháng Năm tại quảng trường thánh Phêrô, Đức Thánh Cha Phanxicô đã dành bài
giáo lý về lòng thương xót để nói về một dụ ngôn trong Tân Ước thường được
gọi là dụ ngôn “đứa con hoang đàng” mà ngài sửa lại thành dụ ngôn “về người
cha có lòng thương xót”. Người cha nhân hậu trong dụ ngôn kêu gọi hai đứa
con đối xử với nhau như anh em, vì thế có thể nói lòng thương xót của người
cha tái lập tình anh em.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Đức Thánh Cha nói rằng dụ ngôn mang tính gợi mở và là một
lời kêu gọi khôi phục tình anh em: “Người cha gọi hai đứa con của mình lại,
một đứa đang chờ đợi hình phạt, một đứa mong chờ phần thưởng, trong một
lôgic mới, lôgic của lòng thương xót. Người cha mời gọi hai đứa con xử sự
với nhau như anh em trong niềm vui và ăn mừng cho một kẻ coi như đã mất nay
lại tìm thấy”.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Đức Thánh Cha nhấn mạnh rằng lòng thương xót được ban
tặng “một cách vô điều kiện: “Anh chị em thân mến, trong dụ ngôn về Người
Cha đầy lòng thương xót, Chúa Giêsu không mặc khải một Người Cha bị xúc phạm,
đầy oán trách. Đã hẳn, đứa con biết là nó đã phạm tội và nhận ra tội của nó;
nhưng Người Cha lại vội vã trả lại cho nó vị trí và phẩm giá của nó, trong
một lòng thương xót được thể hiện một cách vô điều kiện”.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Như thế, Đức Thánh Cha đã khẳng định tính ưu tiên của
lòng thương xót trên mọi thứ công trạng của con người, và đồng thời, tính
nhưng không của lòng thương xót: “Phẩm giá của người con Chúa không lệ thuộc
vào công trạng của chúng ta, hành động của chúng ta, mà là vào tình thương
nhưng không của Chúa Cha”.</font></p>

chính”. Tuy nhiên, đứa con này cũng cần đến lòng thương xót, bởi vì nó đã
không biết nhận ra “phần thưởng” của nó: “Người con cả, tuy vẫn luôn ở nhà,
nhưng cũng cần đến lòng thương xót. Nó chờ đợi một phần thưởng như một thứ
tiền công, nhưng phần thưởng của nó chính là ở bên Cha, với tính cách là
con”.</font></td>
