Tiến trình này không phải là không gặp chướng ngại, nhưng Vatican vẫn hi

<font face="Arial">Cha Shih nói rằng để hiểu được Giáo hội Công giáo ở Trung
Quốc, cần phải để ý đến ba điểm này:</font></p>

<font face="Arial">‘Một là, đừng quá hiểu theo nghĩa đen những tuyên bố của
nhà cầm quyền Trung Quốc, đừng quá tin vào truyền thông hải ngoại, và phải
hiểu đời sống đức tin của người Công giáo ở Trung Quốc.’ Chính quyền Trung
Quốc có những cơ quan nhất định lo việc canh chừng, điều hành và giám sát
năm tôn giáo lớn. ‘Về Giáo hội Công giáo, có yihui ytuan (là Liên hiệp Công
giáo Yêu nước và Hội đồng Giám mục) giám sát trên tầm cỡ quốc gia, và
lianghui (Liên hiệp Công giáo Yêu nước và ủy ban các sự vụ tôn giáo) giám
sát trên tầm mức địa phương.’ Trong thực tế, nhiều giám mục và linh mục Công
giáo ở Trung Quốc không chấp nhận sự áp đặt này. ‘Chính quyền biết tình hình
này, họ biết các giám mục và linh mục phản kháng, và cấm các vị này giữ bất
kỳ vai trò nào trong Giáo hội Công giáo. Chính quyền xem các vị này là lãnh
đạo của những cộng đoàn theo một tôn giáo không được chính thức công nhận,
và như thế các vị có thể ở lại trong nước bao lâu không đe dọa sự hợp nhất
quốc gia và trị an xã hội.’</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Thứ hai, là ‘Chúng ta đừng qua tin vào những bài báo của
truyền thông ngoài Trung Quốc. Thường thì họ theo các tuyên bố của chính
quyền Trung Quốc, nhưng diễn đạt theo cách quen thuộc hơn với các Kitô hữu,
nói về phần Giáo hội Công giáo được chính quyền công nhận là ‘Giáo hội chính
thức’ và phần không được chính quyền công nhận chính thức là ‘Giáo hội hầm
trú.’ Vậy nên theo báo chí thì có vẻ như ở Trung Quốc có hai Giáo hội Công
