Thánh Địa Giêrusalem không kết thúc sau lễ nghi suy tôn thánh giá lúc 3 giờ
chiều nhưng trái lại buổi tối ngày Thứ Sáu Tuần Thánh mới là cao điểm với
một nghi thức được nhiều người trông đợi đó là tang lễ của Chúa Kitô.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Đây là một nghi thức rất thịnh hành từ thời Trung Cổ ở
nhiều quốc gia Âu Châu. Nhưng ở Giêrusalem, ngay tại nơi Chúa Giêsu đã chịu
đóng đinh và chịu chết trên thánh giá, nghi thức này có một ý nghĩa đặc biệt.</font></p>

tiếng nhạc trầm buồn, u sầu trong đền thờ Thánh Mộ. Thỉnh thoảng đoàn lại
dừng ở các nhà nguyện khác nhau trong đền thờ để suy niệm.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Bài trình thuật cuộc thương khó của Chúa Giêsu được đọc
lên bằng các ngôn ngữ khác sau. Vị tổng thư ký của đoàn hiệp sĩ Thánh Mộ đã
vác một cây thánh giá lên đồi Golgotha, ở đó sau khi đoạn Phúc Âm mô tả việc
Chúa trút hơi thở cuối cùng và việc tháo đanh Chúa, 2 vị phó tế bắt đầu diễn
lại các động tác tháo đanh và đưa Chúa xuống khỏi thánh giá trong không khí
u buồn và than khóc. Đầu tiên là tháo mão gai trên đầu Ngài, rồi đến những
chiếc đinh đã ghim Chúa vào thập giá.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Các động tác này tạo ra một bầu không khí thực sự mong
đợi cho việc suy niệm về những biến cố lịch sử đã diễn ra ở đây. Một hình
nộm của Chúa bị đóng đinh được rước vào trong huyệt đá để xức dầu thơm và
được nhẹ nhàng đặt ở đó.</font></p>
