được mừng vào hai ngày: 25 tháng Mười Hai và 7 tháng Giêng. Tại một đất nước
chịu nhiều thương tích vì cuộc chiến tranh với Nga, đồng thời đang nỗ lực
xích lại gần Tây Âu, lịch tôn giáo đang trở thành nơi bộc lộ bản sắc dân tộc.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Tại Ukraina đang diễn ra một bước ngoặt ngoạn mục mang
tính chính trị mà nhìn từ phương Tây thì như một giai thoại khó tin. Trong
lúc người dân Ukraina mừng lễ Giáng sinh vào ngày 7 tháng Giêng theo lịch
Giulianô (1) được Chính thống giáo sử dụng, lại xuất hiện ý kiến chuyển sang
ngày 25 tháng Mười Hai để thống nhất với Công giáo (theo lịch Grêgôrianô).</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Ngày 25 tháng Mười Hai vừa qua, việc các linh mục thuộc
Giáo hội Chính thống giáo cử hành Thánh lễ Giáng sinh tại Kiev đã khiến một
số vị trong hàng giáo phẩm rất thất vọng. Tại một đất nước đã chịu nhiều
thương tích do việc sáp nhập vùng Crimê vào Nga và cuộc chiến chống lực
lượng li khai thân Nga ở phía Đông, thì cuộc bất hòa về lịch đã chạm đến
phần cốt tủy của bản sắc dân tộc Ukraina, vốn trong lịch sử đã từng bị giằng
xé giữa ảnh hưởng của Moskva và mong muốn xích lại gần Tây Âu.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Tại Ukraina, cái nôi của Chính thống giáo Nga, có một
đường ranh chia cắt Giáo hội Chính thống thành hai nhánh rõ rệt: nhánh Nga
phụ thuộc vào Toà thượng phụ Moskva, còn nhánh Ukraina phát sinh sau ngày
Liên Xô sụp đổ. Trong khi đó, cuộc xung đột hiện thời với nước Nga đang đẩy
nhiều người Chính thống giáo, kể cả những người thuộc nhánh Nga, ngày càng
tách khỏi Moskva.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Những nhà hoạt động đã cho lưu hành hai kiến nghị được
đăng trên trang điện tử chính thức của phủ tổng thống Ukraina: “Chúng tôi,
những Kitô hữu thuộc các Giáo hội khác nhau, dù không bỏ truyền thống của
mình nhưng muốn được mừng lễ Giáng sinh cùng toàn thể thế giới Kitô giáo,
nên đề nghị rằng ngày 25 tháng Mười Hai là ngày lễ mừng Chúa Giáng sinh”.
Nếu sáng kiến này giành được đủ sự ủng hộ, Tổng thống Petro Poroshenko sẽ
phải xem xét vấn đề, đưa ra biểu quyết tại Quốc hội Ukraina.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Ông Oleksander Turchynov, Thư ký Hội đồng an ninh Ukraina,
đã không bỏ lỡ dịp đổ dầu vào lửa bằng cách bày tỏ sự ủng hộ việc người dân
Ukraina trong thời gian chuyển tiếp có thể mừng lễ Giáng sinh vào ngày 25
tháng Mười Hai và ngày 7 tháng Giêng. Đáp lại, Tổng giám mục Zarapojie và
Melitopol, thuộc phía đông Ukraina, nói: “Nếu dời ngày mừng lễ, chúng ta sẽ
đánh mất truyền thống và không thể tìm được một truyền thống khác tương tự.

Antoine Arjakovsky, nhà sử học Pháp, chuyên gia về Chính thống giáo và đại
kết tại Viện nghiên cứu lịch sử Collège des Bernardins, nhận định: “Không
