<font face="Arial">Tại Rôma vào năm 1944, trước khi chiến tranh sắp chấm
thúc, thủ trưởng cận vệ Otto Wolff bí mật gặp Đức Giáo Hoàng Piô XII để tiết
lộ rằng Hitler đã lên kế hoạch bắt cóc ngài.<br>
<br>
Cha Peter Gumpel, nguyên phát ngôn viên của Đức Giáo Hoàng Piô XII cho biết:
“Hitler không muốn Otto Wolff nói chuyện với bất kỳ ai bởi ông ta biết có
chuyên viên cao cấp nào đó của đảng Nazis đang chống lại kế hoạch của ông.
Chúng sợ phản ứng của dư luận thế giới sẽ nổ ra vốn chẳng thuận lợi gì cho
khả thể bắt cóc ĐGH Pius XII.”<br>
<br>
Đây là một trong những câu chuyện được tiết lộ từ các tài liệu mới đây do
đài truyền hình RAI (Ý) thực hiện. Tài liệu này cho thấy hình ảnh mới mẻ của
vị Giáo Hoàng lãnh đạo Giáo Hội trong Chiến tranh Thế giới thứ hai và giải
thích chiến lược ĐGH Piô XII trong việc ngài ngăn chặn nạn trục xuất hàng
ngàn người Do Thái.<br>
<br>
Grazia DI Veroli, cháu gái của người Do Thái bị trục xuất cho hay: “Các dòng
tu và tu viện lúc ấy đã mở cửa để cứu vớt rất nhiều người Do Thái. Chắc chắn
phe Hitler sẽ can thiệp vì chúng biết rằng có ai đó đứng đằng sau vụ việc
cứu người này.”<br>

Letizia Lanzetta, cháu gái của người Do Thái nhớ lại: “Mẹ, bà và dì tôi là
những người Do Thái được các sơ cưu mang (dòng the Sisters of the Holy Child
Mary) . Ông và chú tôi đã được các cha dòng thánh Âu-Tinh chào đón và cho tá
túc bên cạnh.”<br>
<br>
Matteo Luigi Napolitano, giáo sư Lịch sử và Quan hệ Quốc tế nói: “Việc mở
cửa các cơ sở tôn giáo tại Rôme cũng là bằng chứng tốt. Nó không tốn nhiều
thời gian để ghi lại những gì đã xảy ra trong những địa hạt khác của nước
Ý.”<br>

Lý do phong chân phước cho Đức Piô XII đã được Giáo Hoàng Phaolô VI đề xuất.
Và theo thỉnh nguyện viên của ngài, chỉ còn một bước nữa là việc phong chân
phước cho Đức Piô XII sẽ thành hiện thực.<br>

Cha Marc Lindeijer, thỉnh nguyện viên án phong thánh của ĐGH Piô XII nói:
“Trở ngại duy nhất để phong thánh cho ĐGH Piô XII là chúng ta vẫn cần một
phép lạ. Tôi chẳng có lý do gì để tin rằng ĐTC Phanxicô sẽ phản đối việc
phong chân phước cho Đức Piô XII. Trên thực tế, tôi nghĩ rằng giáo hoàng
Phanxicô luôn ủng hộ việc này.”<br>
<br>
Những năm chiến tranh khốc liệt đã cho thấy biệt tài ngoại giao của ĐGH Pius
XII mà ngài đã học được trong nhiều năm trời ngài làm việc ở Văn phòng Thư
ký Vatican.<br>
<br>
Có nói rằng không đủ minh thị để cho thấy Đức Pius XII chống lại cuộc tàn
sát người Do Thái của Hitler; số khác lại cho rằng Đức Pius XII đã hành động
khôn ngoan và do đó có thể cứu sống được hàng ngàn sinh mạng bằng ảnh hưởng
âm thầm. Hai quan điểm khác nhau này cho thấy sự phức tạp và khó khăn lớn
lao trong thời điểm lịch sử mà Đức Pius XII phải đối mặt.</font></td>
