cảnh nghèo, xin anh chị em tha thứ cho chúng tôi, xin anh chị em tha thứ cho
những người của Giáo Hội và nhân loại nói chung, xin thanh tẩy chúng tôi và
giúp chúng tôi tái tin rằng sự thanh bần chính là trọng tâm của Tin Mừng”.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Kính thưa quý vị và anh chị em,</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Đức Thánh Cha Phanxicô đã nói như trên trong cuộc gặp gỡ
sáng ngày 11 tháng 11 với hơn 3,500 người nghèo đến từ 23 quốc gia, về Roma
hành hương nhân dịp Năm Thánh Lòng Thương Xót.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Là người Việt Nam, có lẽ chúng ta quá quen thuộc với cảnh
nghèo, với người nghèo. Tuy nhiên, chúng ta hãy thử điểm qua một vài con số
thống kê về quy mô của tình trạng nghèo đói và những nỗ lực mà Giáo Hội Công
Giáo đã và đang thực hiện để đương đầu với tình cảnh bi đát này.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Thưa quý vị và anh chị em,</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Ngân hàng Thế giới đưa ra một định nghĩa thế nào thì gọi
là “nghèo cùng cực”. Theo tổ chức này, những ai có thu nhập ít hơn 1.25 Mỹ
Kim, tức là ít hơn 28,000 đồng tiền Việt Nam, thì được gọi là những người
nghèo cùng cực. </font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Vào đầu thiên niên kỷ thứ ba này, Liên Hiệp Quốc ước
lượng trên thế giới có hơn 1 tỷ người đang sống trong cảnh nghèo cùng cực.
Một trong những mục tiêu phát triển của thiên niên kỷ này là người ta cố
gắng để đến năm 2015 có thể giảm con số những người nghèo cùng cực xuống còn
một nửa, tức là còn khoảng 500 triệu thôi; và đến năm 2030 thì không còn ai
phải sống dưới mức nghèo đói như thế. </font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Đến năm 2010, tức là 5 năm sớm hơn hạn định, Liên Hiệp
Quốc vui mừng công bố rằng mục tiêu này đã đạt được.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Tuy nhiên, trong những năm gần đây, chiến tranh lan tràn
đã đẩy con số những người nghèo cùng cực tăng vọt trở lại lên đến 805 triệu
theo thống kê mới nhất của Liên Hiệp Quốc.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Thưa quý vị và anh chị em,</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Để hình dung ra tình hình bi đát đến mức nào, Trúc Ly xin
thưa với quý vị và anh chị em điều này. Từ lúc Trúc Ly bắt đầu thưa chuyện
cùng quý vị và anh chị em đến nay hàng trăm người đã chết vì đói. Thật vậy,
theo thống kê của United Nations World Food Program, mà Trúc Ly tạm dịch là
Chương Trình Lương Thực Thế Giới của Liên Hiệp Quốc, mỗi ngày bình quân có
tới 21,000 người trên thế giới chết vì đói. Một tai nạn máy bay chết vài
trăm người cả thế giới đều biết tin trong khi báo chí không dành dù chỉ một
dòng để nhắc nhở mọi người rằng ngày hôm nay trên thế giới này có tới 21,000
người đã chết vì đói.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Những hậu quả của nghèo đói rất sâu rộng và lâu dài, bao
gồm tình trạng trẻ em chết vì suy dinh dưỡng, không được giáo dục đến nơi
đến chốn, tình trạng thiếu an ninh lương thực, và tất cả những điều này lại
khiến cho con người đã nghèo còn nghèo thêm trong một vòng xoáy trôn ốc
không thể nào thoát ra được.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Nghèo đói chịu trách nhiệm về cái chết của hơn sáu triệu
trẻ em mỗi năm trước ngày sinh nhật thứ năm của chúng. Nghèo đói khiến nhiều
người không thể tiếp cận với các dịch vụ chăm sóc sức khỏe, không có một chế
độ dinh dưỡng hợp lý, khiến cho trẻ con dễ mắc phải những bệnh như viêm
phổi, tiêu chảy và sốt rét. Suy dinh dưỡng là nguyên nhân chính đối với 45
phần trăm các ca tử vong ở trẻ em dưới năm tuổi.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Thiếu vốn làm ăn, năng suất thấp, sức khỏe kém, bị phân
biệt đối xử, chiến tranh, và tình trạng không được ăn học đến nơi đến chốn;
tất cả các đóng góp vào tình trạng nghèo đói trên thế giới. </font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Để đương đầu với tình trạng nghèo đói, trong những năm
gần đây, nhiều cơ quan cấp viện phương Tây theo đuổi những ý thức hệ cực
đoan. Trong các kỳ họp Thượng Hội Đồng Giám Mục về Gia Đình, các nghị phụ
châu Phi phàn nàn rằng nhiều cơ quan cấp viện phương Tây áp đặt các chính
sách phá thai và triệt sản như những điều kiện để một nước có thể nhận viện
trợ. </font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Giáo Hội Công Giáo là cơ chế lớn nhất trên thế giới đương
đầu với tình trạng nghèo đói trên thế giới qua hàng loạt các tổ chức bác ái
và các chương trình chống đói, giảm nghèo. Tại các diễn đàn thế giới, Giáo
Hội chống lại các ý thức hệ cực đoan và không ngừng đề xuất những cách thế
giải quyết các nguyên nhân ngắn hạn và dài hạn của nạn đói và tình trạng mất
an ninh lương thực ở các nước trên thế giới, như cổ vũ bảo vệ môi trường,
khai thác thiên nhiên có trách nhiệm, dạy cho nông dân làm thế nào để nuôi
dưỡng đất của họ, ngăn chặn suy thoái đất và tăng tính bền vững và năng
suất, cung cấp cho nông dân các giống mới vừa có năng suất cao hơn lại bổ
dưỡng hơn, và đào tạo kỹ thuật nông nghiệp.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Khi lương thực được đảm bảo và trẻ em không phải làm việc
quần quật, chúng có thể tập trung vào việc học để nâng cao trình độ và cuối
cùng thoát khỏi cảnh đói nghèo.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Phá thai và triệt sản không phải là phương cách chấm dứt
nghèo đói. Giáo dục tốt, chấm dứt các cuộc xung đột, phân chia công bằng tài
nguyên trái đất, một tình liên đới trong việc trợ giúp tín dụng, cung cấp
các đào tạo về kỹ thuật mới chính là con đường dẫn đưa thế giới thoát ra
khỏi cảnh kẻ ăn không hết, người lần không ra như hiện nay.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Trong bài giảng thánh lễ ngày Năm Thánh dành cho người
nghèo hôm Chúa Nhật 13 tháng 11, Đức Thánh Cha nói:</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">“Khi các cửa Năm Thánh Lòng Thương Xót tại các nhà thờ và
các đền thánh trên thế giới được đóng lại, chúng ta hãy xin cho được ơn đừng
nhắm đôi mắt của chúng ta lại với Thiên Chúa, là Đấng đang nhìn chúng ta, và
đừng nhắm đôi mắt của chúng ta lại với người lân cận của chúng ta là những
người đang khẩn cầu một điều gì đó nơi chúng ta… </font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Và chúng ta hãy mở mắt ra trước những người hàng xóm của
chúng ta, đặc biệt là trước những anh chị em của chúng ta đã bị lãng quên và
bị loại trừ, trước các ‘Lazarus’ ngay ngưỡng cửa nhà chúng ta. Đó là những
nơi kính lúp của Giáo Hội đang hướng đến. Nguyện xin Chúa giải thoát chúng
ta khỏi việc quy chiếu về chính mình nhưng biết nhìn đến với lòng cảm thương
một phần nhân loại đang đau khổ và khóc lóc trong nghèo đói.”</font></p>
