tàng viện; hiện nay, nó là một trong những địa điểm tôn giáo nổi tiếng nhất

Giữa các năm 1958 và 1978, dinh này là cư sở của Đức Hồng Y Karol Wojtyła,
người, vào tháng 10 năm 1978, đã trở thành vị Giáo Hoàng người Slav đầu tiên
trong lịch sử, lấy tên là Gioan Phaolô II. Đức Hồng Y Wojtyła trước đó đã
sống tại quần thể này hồi Thế Chiến II, khi ngài là sinh viên của Chủng Viện
Chui của tổng giáo phận Krakow, do Đức Hồng Y Adam Stefan Sapieha điều khiển
thời Quốc Xã chiếm đóng Ba Lan. Sau cuộc bố ráp hàng ngàn đàn ông con trai ở
Krakow của Quốc Xã ngày 6 tháng 8 năm 1944, Đức Hồng Y Sapieha đã quyết định
để các sinh viên của chủng viện ở ngay trong Dinh Giám Mục cho tới ngày
người Đức rút khỏi thành phố. Chủng Sinh Wojtyła được thụ phong linh mục
không bao lâu sau Thế Chiến II, tức ngày 1 tháng 11 năm 1946, bởi tay Đức
Hồng Y Sapieha tại nhà nguyện riêng của ngài. Không xa Dinh bao nhiêu (ở số
19 Đường Kanonicza) là Bảo Tàng Viện của tổng giáo phận (tiếng Ba Lan:
Muzeum Archidiecezjalne) nơi trưng bầy nhiều nghệ phẩm có liên quan.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Khi nghe tin Đức Gioan Phaolô II qua đời ngày 2 tháng 4,
năm 2005, 40,000 người Công Giáo đã tụ tập trước dinh, tham dự buổi canh
thức cầu nguyện. Mỗi năm đến giỗ của ngài, hàng ngàn bó hoa đã được đặt
quanh tòa nhà và nhiều ngọn lửa được đốt lên. Cửa sổ phía trên lối ra vào
được người ta gọi là “cửa sổ giáo hoàng”, vì từ đây, Đức Gioan Phaolô II đã
nói chuyện với đám đông tụ tập để diện kiến ngài. Ở sân trước, có tượng của
Đức Gioan Phaolô II do nghệ sĩ Jole Sensi Croci tạc và tặng dinh hồi tháng
5, năm 1980.</font></p>

Wenceslaus trên Đồi Wawel, cũng có tên là Nhà Thờ Chính Tòa Wawel (tiếng Ba

Việc xây cất tòa nhà hiện thời bắt đầu trong thế kỷ 14 theo lệnh của Đức Cha
