Bergoglio đã chọn tên của một chứng nhân chính yếu cho đức tin: Phanxicô
Axixi, người, mà khi còn trẻ đã không để những người có quyền thế ảnh hưởng
trên mình, người, cảm thấy mình không thể cự được tiếng gọi của Chúa Kitô và
của người nghèo.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Ngay lập tức, các cơ quan truyền thông bắt đầu suy luận
về tên đặc biệt này, một vài người còn diễn giải, theo gương của người gây
cảm hứng nổi tiếng của thế kỷ 13 này, Đức Phanxicô sẽ có thể có “đối thoại
với hồi giáo”. Sứ mệnh hai chiều ở trong lòng một Âu châu đang bị hồi giáo
hóa thật là hàm súc trong đầu nhiều người (ít nhiều bị lèo lái bởi suy nghĩ
duy nhất) nên cũng đáng để chúng ta nhìn kỹ vấn đề này!</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Chắc chắn, về mặt lịch sử, vào năm 1219 Thánh Phanxicô
Axixi có đến gặp Hoàng đế Al Malik al Kamil đang khi có cuộc chiến tranh
giữa người Kitô giáo và người Sarrazin. Ngài đã thật can đảm và có đức tin
rất mạnh, nhưng đương nhiên ngài làm theo cách của thời ngài, chứ không theo
tiêu chuẩn của thời hậu hiện đại và thế tục. Nhìn các thảm họa của nạn hồi
giáo thống trị các người thiểu số trong nước họ, chắc chắn Thánh Phanxicô
Axixi không ngây thơ mến mộ hồi giáo như nhiều người muốn, bằng mọi giá, làm
cho chúng ta tin rằng sẽ có một đối thoại liên tôn giáo cung kính với hồi
giáo.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Có một điều chắc chắn, đó là sự quyết tâm của Thánh
Phanxicô Axixi, ngài muốn thuyết phục Hoàng đế bỏ đi việc nhà nước hồi giáo
chiếm các nơi thánh và chấm dứt sự hung dữ bắt người dân khốn khổ trong vùng
phải chịu, các kitô hữu người thiểu số hoặc các người Phương Tây đến tăng
viện. Bởi vì, nơi nào có những vụ xâm lấn hồi giáo đều có những vụ thảm sát,
hôi của, hủy hoại, những vụ xâm lấn này gây ra những thiệt hại đáng kể. Về
mặt thiêng liêng, Thánh Phanxicô Axixi lo cho những người đang bị đau khổ,
vì thế ngài cố liều làm trong tinh thần hòa bình để ngăn những chuyện khủng
khiếp của cuộc xung đột hồi giáo-phương tây. Thật ra, chúng ta đừng quên,
khởi đầu các cuộc thập tự chinh cũng chỉ là các cuộc chiến tranh thuộc địa.
Sau các vụ hồi giáo chiếm đóng đất đai của tín hữu kitô, chiếm các nơi thờ
phượng, các vụ bắt cóc đòi tiền chuộc, như vậy việc tự vệ là một nhu cầu
hoàn toàn hợp pháp, dù biết rõ ràng trong khi bai bên giao tranh sẽ có đẫm
máu, nhất là những người gây chiến và những người bị truất sẽ sẵn sàng làm
tất cả.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Khi có sáng kiến này, Thánh Phanxicô Axixi biết rõ mộ của
Chúa Kitô ở Giêrusalem đã bị Hoàng đế Al Hakim biến thành tro bụi vào năm
1009, các nhà thờ, các nguyện đường dần dần bị người hồi giáo ở Đất Thánh
phá hủy. Như thế khi đi gặp hoàng đế Al Malik al Kamil, Thánh Phanxicô Axixi
biết rằng ngài đi không phải đến để khen ngợi, để ngồi nói chuyện bên chén
trà bạc hà thơm tho. Chi tiết duy nhất mà chúng ta có được về thời này là do
Thánh Bonaventure kể lại: nhất là ở thời vinh quang của Thánh Phanxicô
Axixi, có nhiều chuyện mang tính huyền thoại, đương nhiên là có những chuyện
làm đẹp biện minh cho tôn giáo. Chẳng hạn, vào cuối câu chuyện ngài kể,

<font face="Arial">Nhưng với những thực tế có thật nào phù hợp với chuyến
phiêu lưu của Thánh Phanxicô Axixi đến gặp Hoàng đế? Tại sao người ta thường
khéo léo đưa ra ví dụ “đối thoại hồi giáo-kitô giáo”, theo nghĩa bây giờ…
Trước hết, nếu theo lời kể của Thánh Bonaventure, thì không đúng như vậy, vì
Thánh Phanxicô Axixi và người bạn đồng hành của ngài biết rõ mình là “con
cừu giữa bầy sói”. Như vậy không có chuyện thảo luận triết lý hay đơn giản
trao đổi các hiểu biết về siêu hình.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Nhưng khi họ đến, hai người bị “những người Sarrazin giận
dữ, thù hận, chửi bới, đánh đập ngay”. Trên thực tế, Thánh Phanxicô Axixi
đến để loan báo cho lãnh tụ chính trị-tôn giáo biết, con đường cứu rỗi thật
sự là con đường của Chúa Kitô, vì thái độ hòa bình và tôn trọng mà Ngài đòi
hỏi nơi các môn đệ của mình. Thánh Phanxicô cũng đến nói với họ, chỉ có
Thiên Chúa là Chúa duy nhất và là Chúa Ba Ngôi, có nghĩa Chúa Kitô là biểu
tượng thần thánh của tình yêu nhập thể trên quả đất này. Thánh Bonaventure
nhấn mạnh trong câu chuyện kể của mình: Thánh Phanxicô Axixi mời Hoàng đế
trở lại theo nhãn quan nhân bản này, ông và dân của ông, vì Chúa Giêsu và sự
giảng dạy của Ngài có thể cứu khỏi vực thẳm của điều bất chính và bất hạnh.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Câu chuyện của Thánh Bonaventure còn kể thêm một đoạn,
Thánh Phanxicô Axixi đề nghị với Hoàng đế làm chứng bằng lửa trước mặt ngài
để chứng tỏ lòng chân thành của ông, nhưng đây chỉ là một đoạn nói thêm lấy
cảm hứng từ Thánh Kinh, trong giai đoạn Antiochus Epiphane bách hại ở
Israel, khi những người tin vào Chúa thật đã thắng chế độ độc tài của lương
dân. Bản văn cũng viết, cuối cùng khi để cho Thánh Phanxicô Axixi ra đi,
Hoàng đế đề nghị ngài tặng quà cho người nghèo, nhưng ngài từ chối, “vì ngài
thấy nơi ông không có gốc rễ xác thực của một đức tin đích thực”.</font></p>

cái mà bây giờ chúng ta gọi là “đối thoại hồi giáo-kitô giáo”? Thánh
Phanxicô Axixi có đặt một vấn đề nào về hồi giáo và những điều tuyệt vời của
họ không? Không. Ngài có tỏ ra có một chút trân trọng nào với tôn giáo này
không? Không.</font></p>

kính trọng trước hoàng đế, nhưng không có lúc nào ngài cho thấy mình cảm
kích trước đức tin của người hồi giáo này. Ngài tin chắc, đây là chỉ là ngõ
cụt của một loại thờ phượng khát máu, nên ngài mới đề nghị con đường hòa
bình theo Phúc Âm!</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Ngược lại với những lời ca ngợi giả tạo “đối thoại”,
Thánh Phanxicô Axixi không chờ gì ở hồi giáo, ngài biết rõ ngọn nguồn đâu là
các thực tế của đạo này. Ngài chỉ cần họ tôn trọng con người, ngài không có
một ảo tưởng nào để tin kinh coran có thể đem đến một cái gì mới hay sáng
tạo cho những người đã có trong tay quyển Thánh Kinh truyền thống và các
kinh nghiệm nhân bản phong phú của nó. Kinh coran không mang đến một đặc nét
thiêng liêng nào cho tín hữu kitô. Người đồng thời với Thánh Phanxicô, Giáo
hoàng Innocentê III tuyên bố: “Tình yêu cho người lân cận buộc các tín hữu
kitô phải giải thoát cho hàng ngàn anh chị em mình đang ở trong tay những
người Sarrazin, họ bị đè bẹp, bị ở dưới gông kìm nặng nề nhất của chế độ nô
lệ!”</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Cũng trong tinh thần này, vượt lên các nghi thức xã giao,
Đức Phanxicô, ngài cũng sẽ có một ngôn ngữ của sự thật, và với sứ mệnh của
mình, ngài sẽ nhấn mạnh đến hòa bình, đến sự tôn trọng hỗ tương, đến nhân
quyền. Chính vì vậy, ngài sẽ gọi cho các nhà chức trách hồi giáo, những
người bức bách các tín hữu của giao ước ở trong những vùng mà họ đã đặt luật
bạo lực hủy hoại cho việc hồi giáo hóa. Dù vậy, cũng không ngăn người kitô,
giống như Thánh Phanxicô Axixi, tự nguyện đề nghị con đường của các giá trị
do thái-kitô cho các tín đồ của kinh coran.</font></td>
