Uganda, bắt đầu chặng thứ hai trong chuyến viếng thăm của ngài tại 3 nước
Phi châu.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Uganda nhỏ nhất trong số 3 quốc gia Phi châu ĐTC viếng
thăm lần này: với diện tích 241 ngàn cây số vuông, Uganda có 36 triệu 500
ngàn dân cư, trong đó có hơn 80% là tín hữu Kitô, và trong số này 17 triệu
là tín hữu Công Giáo, tương đương với 47% dân số, với 540 giáo xứ, 6.900
trung tâm mục vụ, tất cả thuộc 20 giáo phận, do 32 GM coi sóc, với sự phụ
giúp của 2.180 LM. Nhân sự của Giáo Hội tại đây cũng gồm có gần 1.450 chủng
sinh, 3.700 nữ tu, 567 tu huynh, gần 15.900 giáo lý viên và 100 thừa sai
giáo dân. Hồi giáo ở Uganda chỉ chiếm 12% dân số. </font></p>

<font face="Arial"> Entebe quốc tế trong tiếng Luganda ở địa phương có nghĩa
là ”trụ sở” vì đây là trung tâm hành chánh của vị thủ lãnh truyền thống.
Hiện nay Entebe có 115 ngàn dân cư tọa lạc bên bờ hồ Victoria và là thủ đô
của Uganda cho đến năm 1962, nhường chỗ cho thành phố Kampala khi Uganda
được độc lập khỏi người Anh. Dầu vậy Entebe vẫn tiếp tục là nơi có trụ sở
của một số bộ và tòa nhà chính phủ. </font></p>

dân cư và tổng giáo phận tại đây có 1 triệu 700 ngàn tín hữu Công giáo,
tương đương với 42% dân cư ở địa phương. </font></p>

<font face="Arial"> Sau 1 giờ 20 phút bay, vượt qua 500 cây số, máy bay chở
ĐTC đã đáp xuống phi trường Entebe. Từ trên máy bay bước xuống, ngài đã được
tổng thống Yoweri Museveni và Phu nhân cùng với một số quan chức chính quyền
và các Giám mục và một nhóm tín hữu tiếp đón bài ca và vũ điệu cổ truyền. 2
em bé đã tặng hoa cho ngài. </font></p>

<font face="Arial"> Sau nghi thức đón tiếp đơn sơ, ĐTC đã về tòa nhà chính
phủ cách đó 7 cây số về chào thăm tổng thống và gặp gỡ chính quyền cùng với
ngoại giao đoàn. Tổng thống Museveni năm nay 71 tuổi, cầm quyền từ 30 năm
nay, và đã 4 lần được tái cử, mỗi nhiệm kỳ 5 năm. </font></p>

cho biết cuộc viếng thăm của ngài tại Uganda có mục đích trước tiên là để kỷ

6, cử hành. Nhưng tôi hy vọng sự hiện diện của tôi ở đây cũng là dấu chỉ
tình thân hữu, lòng quí chuộng và khích lệ cho mọi người dân đại quốc này. </font></p>

<font face="Arial"> Các vị tử đạo, Công Giáo cũng như Anh giáo, là những vị
anh hùng đích thực của quốc gia. Các vị làm chứng về những nguyên tắc chỉ
đạo được diễn tả trong khẩu hiệu của Uganda là ”Vì Thiên Chúa và vì đất nước
tôi”. Các vị nhắc nhớ chúng ta về tầm quan trọng của đức tin, sự liêm chính
và sự dấn thân cho công ích. Đó là những điều đã và đang tượng trưng trong
đời sống văn hóa, kinh tế và chính trị của đất nước này. Ngoài ra các vị tử
đạo cũng nhắc nhở chúng ta rằng mặc dù có những tín ngưỡng và xác tín khác
nhau, nhưng tất cả chúng ta đeu được kêu gọi tìm kiếm sự thật, làm việc cho
công lý và sự hòa giải, tôn trọng và bảo vệ nhau, giúp đỡ nhau như những
thành phần của một gia đình nhân loại duy nhất. </font></p>

bản toàn diện, sự tham gia rộng rãi của dân chúng vào đời sống quốc gia,
cũng như sự phân phối khôn ngoan và công bằng các tài nguyên mà Thiên Chúa

<font face="Arial"> ĐTC cũng ca ngợi sự dấn thân của Uganda trong việc đón
tiếp người tị nạn ở miền Đông Phi châu, giúp họ tái lập cuộc sống trong an
ninh, giúp họ nhận thấy phẩm giá đến từ sự mưu sinh bằng công việc lương
thiện. Thế giới chúng ta với những chiến tranh, bạo lực, và những hình thức
bất công khác, đang chứng kiến làn sóng di cư chưa từng có của các dân tộc.
Cách thức chúng ta đối phó với hiện tượng này bằng chứng cho thấy tình nhân
đạo của chúng ta, sự tôn trọng của chúng ta đối với phẩm giá con người, và
tình liên đới đối với các anh chị em đang ở trong tình cảnh cần được giúp
đỡ. </font></p>

ngủi, nhưng tôi hy vọng có thể khích lệ bao nhiêu nỗ lực âm thầm đang được
thực hiện để giúp đỡ những ngừơi nghèo, các bệnh nhân và những người ở trong
tình cảnh khó khăn. Qua những dấu hiệu bé nhỏ đó, chúng ta có thể thấy tâm
hồn đích thực của một dân tộc.. </font></p>
