một chiếc xe buýt ở Jerusalem và bắt đầu bắn và đâm loạn xạ vào các hành

kể từ ngày Năm Mới của người Do Thái. Người Hồi giáo Palestine đã tức giận
vì càng ngày càng có đông người Do Thái thăm viếng Núi Đền (Temple Mount)
nơi có nhà thờ Hồi giáo al-Aqsa ở Jerusalem. Bạo động diễn ra hàng ngày với
ít nhất 27 người Palestine và 7 người Do Thái đã bị giết. Hôm thứ Ba 13
tháng 10, các nhóm quá khích Palestine kêu gọi tổ chức “Ngày cuồng nộ cuả
người Palestine”. Các quan sát viên e ngại tình hình kéo dài có thể phát
triển thành cuộc Intifada lần thứ ba.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Núi Đền trong khu Cổ Thành Jerusalem là nơi thánh đối với
cả 3 tôn giáo độc thần: người Do thái coi đây là nơi Abraham sát tế con là
Isaac và là địa điểm Đền thờ vua Salomon đã xây cất; người Hồi giáo coi đây
là nơi thánh thứ 3 của đạo này, sau La Mecca và Medina bên Arập Sauđi, còn
đối với các Kitô hữu, đây là nơi Chúa Giêsu đã tiên báo về sự phá hủy Đền
thờ Jerusalem.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Trên núi Đền có một sân rộng hình thang dài gần 500 mét
và rộng khoảng 300 mét, chiếm 1 phần 6 diện tích của Cổ Thành Jerusalem.
Trên sân rộng này có 2 Đền Thờ lớn của Hồi giáo được kiến thiết: Thứ nhất là
Đền thờ Mái Vòm đá tảng là đền Hồi giáo cổ kính nhất tại Thánh Địa, lần đầu
tiên được xây hồi năm 640 và 47 năm sau đó được thay thế bằng Đền thờ như
hiện nay, có hình bát giác, 8 phía đều được trang điểm bằng ngọc quí, và
phần dưới bằng cẩm thạch đa sắc. Vật liệu xây cất Đền thờ này lấy từ các
thánh đường và đền đài trước đó thời Bizantine và Roma. Thứ hai là Đền thờ
Al-Aqsa được kiến thiết hồi thế kỷ thứ 8 và đã trải qua nhiều lần tái thiết.</font></p>

Ðệ Tam đưa ra vào năm 1853, khu vực Núi Đền thuộc quyền tài phán của Jordan.
Kể từ khi Israel bắt đầu chiếm đóng vùng phiá Đông Jerusalem và khu Cổ Thành
Jerusalem vào năm 1967, người Do Thái đã được phép đến thăm vùng này - nhưng
