cùng nhau lên đường trong tinh thần hợp đoàn và công đồng, trong đó, các
tham dự viên can đảm chấp nhận parrhesia, tức lòng nhiệt thành mục vụ và đức
khôn ngoan, thành thực tín lý và luôn đặt trước mắt ta thiện ích của Giáo
Hội, thiện ích của các gia đình và qui luật tối cao là phần rỗi các linh
hồn.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Cho phép tôi được nhắc tới điều này Thượng Hội Đồng không
phải là một hội nghị, một chỗ để nói, cũng không phải là một nghị viện hay
một thượng nghị viện, nơi người ta đưa ra các mối lái trao đổi để rồi đạt
tới các thỏa hiệp. Đúng hơn, Thượng Hội Đồng là một phát biểu của Giáo Hội,
tức là: Giáo Hội đang cùng nhau sánh bước mong đọc được thực tại bằng con
mắt đức tin và bằng trái tim Thiên Chúa; đây là một Giáo Hội biệt tự tra vấn
chính mình về lòng trung thành của mình đối với kho tàng đức tin; kho tàng
này, đối với Giáo Hội, không phải là một viện bảo tàng để xem, cũng không
phải là một điều gì đó chỉ để giữ gìn, mà là một nguồn suối sống động để
Giáo Hội múc uống, để thỏa mãn cơn thèm khát kho sự sống và soi sáng kho sự
sống này.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Thượng Hội Đồng nhất thiết phải sinh hoạt trong lòng Giáo
Hội và trong lòng dân thánh Thiên Chúa, mà chúng ta vốn thuộc về trong tư
cách mục tử, nghĩa là trong tứ cách đầy tớ. Thượng Hội Đồng cũng là nơi được
bảo vệ trong đó, Giáo Hội cảm nghiệm được hành động của Chúa Thánh Thần. Tại
Thượng Hội Đồng, Chúa Thánh Thần nói bằng miệng lưỡi mọi người; những người
tự để mình được Thiên Chúa hướng dẫn, Đấng luôn làm ta ngạc nhiên, Đấng
Thiên Chúa luôn tự mạc khải cho những người bé nhỏ, và dấu mặt đối với những
người hiểu biết và thông minh: Đấng Thiên Chúa tạo ra luật lệ và ngày Sabát
cho con người chứ không ngược lại; Đấng Thiên Chúa bỏ 99 con chiên ở lại để
đi tìm một con chiên lạc; Đấng Thiên Chúa luôn lớn hơn các luận lý và các
tính toán của ta.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Tuy nhiên, chúng ta hãy nhớ điều này: Thượng Hội Đồng sẽ
chỉ là nơi để Chúa Thánh Thần hành động nếu các tham dự viên chúng ta chịu
mặc lấy đức can đảm cuả các tông đồ, đức khiêm nhường của tin mừng và tinh
thần tín thác cầu nguyện. Can đảm tông truyền là khước từ khiếp đảm trước
các cám dỗ của thế gian, những cám dỗ có khuynh hướng giập tắt ánh sáng sự
thật trong trái tim con người, thay thế vào đó bằng những thứ ánh sáng mờ
nhạt và tạm bợ thoáng qua; cũng không khiếp đảm trước sự cứng như đá của một
số tâm hồn, dù có ý tốt, nhung đang lùa người ta ra xa Thiên Chúa; can đảm
tông truyền để đem lại sự sống chứ không biến cuộc sống Kitô hữu của chúng
ta thành một viện bảo tàng hoài niệm; đức khiêm nhường của tin mừng là biết
cách dốc hết các ước lệ và thiên kiến đi để lắng nghe các hiền huynh giám
mục của mình và để đổ đầy Thiên Chúa vào, một đức khiêm nhường không dẫn ta
tới chỗ chỉ tay cũng như phê phán người khác, nhưng chìa rộng bàn tay ta để
giúp đỡ người khác mà không hề cảm thấy mình hay hơn họ.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Tín thác cầu nguyện, biết tin tưởng nơi Thiên Chúa, là
hành động của một trái tim biết mở ra đón nhận Thiên Chúa, biết dẹp bỏ các ý
thích của ta để lắng nghe giọng nói êm nhẹ của Thiên Chúa, một giọng chuyên
nói trong im lặng. Không lắng nghe Thiên Chúa, mọi lời ta nói chỉ là những
lời không thỏa mãn được nhu cầu nào và không phục vụ bất cứ mục tiêu nào.
Không để ta được Chúa Thánh Thần hướng dẫn, mọi quyết định của ta sẽ chỉ là
những đồ trang trí, thay vì tuyên dương Tin Mừng, đã chỉ che phủ và che
khuất nó mà thôi.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Các hiền huynh thân mến, như tôi đã nói, Thượng Hội Đồng
không phải là một nghị viện trong đó, để đạt được đồng thuận hay thỏa hiệp
chung, người ta phải dùng tới thương lượng, tới đổi chác chạy chọt, hay
nhượng bộ; thực vậy, phương pháp duy nhất của Thượng Hội Đồng là mở lòng ra
đón Chúa Chúa Thánh Thần với đức can đảm của tông đồ, với đức khiêm nhường
của Tin Mừng và với tinh thần tín thác cầu nguyện, để Người hướng dẫn ta,
soi sáng ta và làm ta luôn để trước mắt thiện ích của Giáo Hội và sự cứu rỗi
của các linh hồn, không những bằng các ý kiến bản thân của ta mà còn bằng
đức tin vào Thiên Chúa, lòng trung thành với Huấn Quyền nữa.</font></p>
