vụ khủng bố tại tòa tháp đôi của World Trade Centre, gọi là Ground Zero ở
New York. Lúc 4h chiều, Đức Thánh Cha đã đến thăm các gia đình nghèo trong

và 8th Avenue từ 31st Street đến 33rd Street, phía trên ga Pennsylvania.</font></p>

Square Garden được coi là vận động trường xưa nhất trong thành phố New York

<font face="Arial">Chúng ta đang ở trong sân vận động Madison Square Garden,
là nơi biểu tượng của thành phố này, là trụ sở của các cuộc gặp gỡ thể thao,
nghệ thuật, âm nhạc, tụ họp người của nhiều nơi, không phải chỉ là của thành
phố mà của toàn thế giới. Dân bước đi giữa các sinh hoạt, các lo lắng thường
nhật của mình, dân bước đi mang nặng các thành công và các lầm lỗi, các sợ

<font face="Arial">Trong mọi thời đại dân Thiên Chúa đưọc mời gọi chiêm
ngưỡng ánh sáng đó, ánh sáng muốn chiếu soi mọi quốc gia, muốn đến trong mọi
góc của thành phố này, với mọi công dân, mọi không gian của cuộc sống. Một
trong các đặc thái của Dân có niềm tin là khả năng trông thấy, chiêm ngưỡng
giữa các tối tăm của mình, ánh sáng mà Chúa Kitô đem đến. Dân có niềm tin
biết nhìn, phân định và chiêm ngắm sự hiện diện sống động của Thiên Chúa
giữa cuộc đời mình, giữa thành phố của mình. Sống trong một thành phố lớn có
nhiều phức tạp, với một môi trường đa văn hóa và các thách đố lớn không đễ
giải quyết. Các thành phố lớn nhắc cho chúng ta biết sự phong phú ẩn dấu
trong thế giới chúng ta là các nền văn hóa, các truyền thống và lịch sử khác
nhau, các tiếng nói, cách ăn mặc khác nhau. Các thành phố lớn diễn tả sự da
diện của các cung cách sống và hành xử của chúng ta. Nhưng các thành phố lớn
cũng che dấu gương mặt của biết bao nhiêu người bị coi như công dân hạng
hai. Giữa các tiếng di chuyển ồn ào, trong tiết nhịp các thay đổi cũng bị
che dấu các tiếng nói của biết bao nhiêu gương mặt không có quyền công dân,
không có quyền là thành phần của thành phố - các người nước ngoài, con cái
họ không được học hành, các người không đuợc săn sóc sức khỏe, các người vô
gia cư, các người già cô đơn, bị ở bên lề các đường đi của chúng ta, trong
một sự vô danh ầm ĩ. Họ bưóc vào trong một cảnh tượng thành thị từ từ trở
thành tự nhiên trước mắt và đặc biệt là trong tim chúng ta. Tuy nhiên, trong
mọi trạng huống đó vẫn có Chúa đồng hành với chúng ta. Đức Thánh Cha nói :</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Biết rằng Chúa Giêsu tiếp tục bước đi trên các con đường
của anh chị em, trà trộn với dân Ngài môt cách sống động, để cho mình bị
liện lụy và lôi cuốn con người vào trong một lịch sử cứu độ duy nhất khiến
cho chúng ta tràn đầy hy vọng, một niềm hy vọng giải thoát chúng ta khỏi sức
mạnh thúc dẩy chúng ta cô lập hóa mình và không biết đến cuộc sống của người
khác, cuộc sống của thành phố. Một niềm hy vọng giải thoát chúng ta khỏi các
liên lạc trống rỗng, các phân tích trừu tượng, hay nhu cầu có các cảm xúc
mạnh. Một niềm hy vọng không sợ hãi tháp nhập vào và hành động như men trong
những nơi bạn phải chung đụng và sống. Một niềm hy vọng mời gọi chúng ta
nhìn giữa « khói mù ô nhiễm » sự hiện diện của Thiên Chúa là Đấng tiếp tục
bước đi trong các thành phố của chúng ta.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Ngôn sứ Isaia giới thiệu Chúa Giêsu với chúng ta như « Cố
vấn kỳ diệu, Thiên Chúa quyền năng, Cha muôn thuở, Hoàng tử của hoà bình »
(Is 9,5). Với những nguời hỏi cho biết họ phải làm gì, câu trả lời đầu tiên
của Chúa Giêsu là đề nghị, khích lệ và động viên. Ngài luôn luôn đề nghị các
môn đệ ra đi, và thúc đầy họ ra đi gặp gỡ những người khác tại những nơi họ
sống, ra đi không sợ hãi, không nhờm gớm, ra đi loan báo niềm vui cho mọi
dân tộc. Và nơi Chúa Giêsu, Thiên Chúa trở thành Emmamuel luôn đi bên cạnh
chúng ta, trà trộn với chúng ta trong nhà của chúng ta. Không ai và không có
gì có thể tách rời chúng ta khỏi Ngài. Ra đi loan báo Thiên Chúa là Cha luôn
chờ đón chúng ta để ôm chúng ta vào lòng. Đi tới với những người khác để
chia sẻ tin vui Thiên Chuá là Cha, đồng hành với chúng ta và giải thoát
chúng ta khỏi cảnh vô danh, khỏi chiến tranh thi đua, tự quy hướng về mình,
để mở ra con đường hoà bình cho chúng ta. Thiên Chúa sống trong các thành
phố của chúng ta, Giáo Hội sống trong các thành phố của chúng ta và muốn là
men trong đám đông trà trộn với tất cả mọi nguời đồng hành với tất cả mọi
người để loan báo các điều kỳ diệu của Đấng là « Cố vấn kỳ diệu, Thiên Chúa
quyền năng, Cha muôn thuở và Hoàng Tử hòa bình.</font></p>

Philadelphia. Máy bay đã tới phi trường quốc tế Philadelphia sau 50 phút
bay. Từ phi trường Đức Thánh Cha đã đi xe tới nhà thờ chính tòa cách đó 16
cây số để chủ sự thánh lễ với các Giám Mục và linh mục với sự tham dự của
các tu sĩ nam nữ Phialadelphia và toàn bang Pensylvania. Chúng tôi sẽ tường
