rời Tòa Sứ Thần để đến tòa Bạch Ốc cách đó hơn 4 cây số, nơi diễn ra lễ nghi
tiếp đón chính thức. Tòa Bạch Ốc là tư dinh của các tổng thống Mỹ do tổng
thống George Washington xây năm 1792 và hoàn thành năm 1800 sau khi ông qua
đời.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Đức Thánh Cha Phanxicô được tổng thống Obama và phu nhân
đón tiếp tại tiền sảnh toà Bạch Ốc và tháp tùng tới khán đài trong công viên
bên cạnh nơi có khoảng 15,000 người tham dự lễ nghi chào đón chính thức.
Cùng hiện diện cũng có các Hồng Y Ban Thường Vụ Hội Đồng Giám Mục và các
Giám Mục Phụ tá tổng giáo phận Washington. Đức Thánh Cha và tổng thống đã
duyệt qua hàng chào danh dự trong khi đại bác bắn 21 phát chào mừng vị
thượng khách. Ban quân nhạc cử quốc thiều Vaticăng và quốc thiều Hoa Kỳ.
Tiếp đến tổng thống Barack Obama đã đọc diễn văn chào mừng Đức Thánh Cha.</font></p>

hướng dẫn tương lai của quốc gia này trong sự trung tín với các nguyên tắc

Công Giáo Hoa Kỳ đã dấn thân xây dựng một xã hội thực sự khoan nhượng và bao
gồm mọi người, bảo vệ các quyền của các cá nhân và các cộng đoàn, và đẩy lùi
mọi hình thái kỳ thị bất công. Cùng với nhiều người thiện chí khác nữa của
nền dân chủ vĩ đại này, các tín hữu Công Giáo mong chờ rằng các nỗ lực xây
dựng một xã hội công bằng và trật tự một cách khôn ngoan, tôn trọng các âu

<font face="Arial">Tiếp dến Đức Thánh Cha đã ca ngợi tổng thống Obama có
sáng kiến giảm việc gây ô nhiễm môi sinh. Đây là một điều cấp thiết cần giải
quyết, chứ không thể để cho thế hệ tương lai. Lịch sử đã đặt để chúng ta vào
một thời điểm nòng cốt cho việc săn sóc “ngôi nhà chung”. Tuy nhiện chúng ta
còn có thời giờ để đương đầu với các thay đổi bảo đảm cho “một sự phát triển
có thể chịu đựng nổi và toàn diện, bởi vì chúng ta biết rằng các sự việc có
thể thay đổi” (Laudato si’ 13). Các thay đổi đòi buộc từ phía chúng ta một
sự thừa nhận nghiêm chỉnh và có trách nhiệm đối với loại thế giới, mà chúng
ta muốn để lại không phải chỉ cho con cháu chúng ta, mà cho cả hàng triệu
người phải sống dưới một hệ thống lơ là với nó. Căn nhà chung của chúng ta

chúng ta, Ngài không bao giờ lùi bước trong chương trình tình yêu của Ngài,
Ngài không hối hận đã tạo dựng nên chúng ta. Nhân loại còn có khả năng cộng
tác để xây dựng căn nhà chung” (ibid. 13). Như là các kitô hữu đuợc linh
hoạt bởi xác tín này, chúng ta hãy tìm dấn thân cho việc săn sóc ý thức và

làm được mới đây để hoà giải các tương quan đã bị bẻ gẫy và việc mở ra các
con đường cộng tác mới bên trong gia đình nhân loại diễn tả các bước tiến
tới tích cực trên con đường của hòa giải, công lý và tự do. Tôi cầu chúc
