Hiệp Quốc tại New York. Sau đó, lúc 11:30 sáng Đức Thánh Cha đã tham dự một
buổi cầu nguyện liên tôn tại Ground Zero cho những nạn nhân của vụ khủng bố
ngày 11 tháng 9 năm 2001. Sau buổi lễ, Đức Thánh Cha đã vào thăm viện bảo
tàng, nơi trưng bầy các hình ảnh và nhiều chứng tích của cuộc khủng bố.</font></p>

Quan sát viên thường trực của Tòa Thánh cạnh Liên Hiệp Quốc cách đó 2 cây số

<font face="Arial">Lúc 4 giờ chiều, Đức Thánh Cha đã đến thăm trường “Đức Bà
Nữ Vương các thánh Thiên Thần” cách đó 4 cây số rưỡi, gặp gỡ các trẻ em và
gia đình các người di cư. Trường học này tọa lạc trong khu phố Brooklyn. Tên
gọi Brooklyn đến từ tiếng Hoà Lan “Breuckelen” là tên ngôi làng người di dân
gốc Hoà Lan đã thành lập năm 1624. Với 2,5 triệu người Brooklyn là khu phố
đông dân cư nhất trong 4 khu phố tại New York. Năm 1898 nó được gắn liền với
New York nhưng vẫn tiếp tục duy trì căn tính riêng. Là nơi cập bến của người
di cư, nó gồm các cộng đoàn thuần nhất theo chủng tộc và tôn giáo. Tại
Brooklym có cây cầu nổi tiếng nối liền Brooklyn với Manhattan xây năm 1883,
và Viện bảo tàng xây năm 1897, là một trong các viện bảo tàng lớn nhất Hoa
Kỳ với hơn 1,5 triệu tác phẩm nghệ thuật thuộc các nưóc từ Ai cập cho tới
các tác phẩm ngày nay.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Trường Đức Bà Nữ Vương các thánh Thiên Thần là một trường
tiểu học có 282 học sinh tuổi từ 5 tới 14, trong đó 69% có học bổng. Các trẻ
em là con các gia đình di cư có lợi tức thấp 69% đến từ châu Mỹ Latinh, các
gia đình khác đến từ Phi châu và Trung Đông, 22% là người Mỹ gốc Phi châu.
Trường này là một trong số 6 trường do tổng giáo phận New York điều hành với
tổng cộng 2,100 học sinh, trong đó có một phần tư đến từ các quốc gia không
nói tiếng Anh.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Ngỏ lời với các em, Đức Thánh Cha bầy tỏ sự hài lòng được
ở với các em như trong một gia đình. Ngài đặc biệt xin lỗi các giáo chức vì
đã lấy ít phút giờ học. Các em thuộc các gia đình đến từ các nước khác. Cả
khi không dễ mà tìm được nhà mới, các bạn bè và láng giềng mới và cuộc sống
bắt đầu với nhiều vất vả : học tiếng mới, thích hợp với một nền văn hóa mới,
khí hậu mới. Phải học biết bao nhiêu điều chứ không phải chỉ có bài tập của
trường học. Nhưng có điều đẹp đó là các em cũng gặp các bạn mới, các người
mở rộng cửa tiếp đón và cho thấy sự dịu hiền, tình bạn, sự cảm thông, và họ
tìm giúp đỡ chúng ta để chúng ta không cảm thấy xa lạ. Trong cách thế đó
trường học trở thành một đại gia đình cho tất cả mọi người, nơi chúng ta học
giúp đỡ nhau cùng với cha me, ông bà, các nhà giáo dục, thầy dậy và bạn bè,
học chia sẻ những gì là tốt lành nơi từng người, cho đi cái tốt nhất của
mình, làm việc theo nhóm và kiên trì trong các mục đích. Đức Thánh Cha nhắc
đến một nhân vật có ảnh hưởng lớn trên xã hội Hoa Kỳ như sau :</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Bên cạnh đây có một con đường rất quan trọng với tên của
một người đã làm biết bao điều tốt lành cho tha nhân, mà cha muốn cùng tưởng
niệm với các con. Cha muốn nói đến Mục sư Martin Luther King. Một ngày kia
ngài đã nói : « Tôi có một giấc mơ » Ngài đã mơ rằng biết bao nhiêu trẻ em,
biết bao nhiêu người có được sự bình đẳng và cơ may. Ngài đã mơ rằng biết
bao trẻ em như các con được giáo dục. Thật là đẹp có các giấc mơ và chiến
đấu cho các giấc mơ đó.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Hôm nay chúng ta muốn tiếp tục mơ và chúng ta mừng tất cả
các cơ may cho phép các con cũng như người lớn không đánh mất đi niềm hy
vong vào một thế giới tốt đẹp hơn với nhiều khả thể hơn. Cha biết rằng một
trong các giấc mơ của cha mẹ các con là các con có thể lớn lên trong tươi
vui. Thật luôn luôn là điều đẹp, trông thấy một trẻ em cười. Ở đây người ta
thấy là các con tươi cười : hãy tiếp tục như thế, và hãy giúp làm cho niềm
vui lây lan tới mọi người sống chúng quanh các con.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Các trẻ em thân mến, các con có quyền mơ, và cha rất vui
mừng vì các con có thể tìm thấy trong ngôi trường này, nơi các bạn bè và các
thầy dậy của các con sự nâng đỡ cần thiết để làm điều ấy. Nơi đâu có các
giấc mơ, nơi đó có niềm vui, nơi đó luôn có Chúa Giêsu. Bởi vì Chúa Giêsu là
niềm vui, và muốn giúp chúng ta để cho niềm vui ấy kéo dài mọi ngày.</font></p>

tập về làm ở nhà, có được không ? Đó là một lời xin đơn sơ nhưng rất quan
trọng : các con đừng quên cầu nguyện cho cha, để cha có thể chia sẻ với biết
bao nhiêu người khác niềm vui của Chúa Giêsu. Và chúng ta cũng cầu nguyện để
nhiều người có thể nếm hưởng niềm vui mà các con có.</font></p>

thánh Thiên Thần Harlem một bức tượng bằng gỗ Đức Mẹ bồng Chúa Hài Nhi, do
các điêu khắc gia vùng Trentino đông bắc Italia tạc. Sau đó ngài đi ra phiá
trước trưòng để chào giới phụ huynh và dân chúng trong khu phố.</font></td>
