Đức Tổng Giám Mục Santiago đã tháp tùng Đức Thánh Cha đi xuống gian giữa nhà
thờ chính toà ra ngoài quảng trường nhỏ đối diện với Công Viên Céspendes để
chào và ban phép lành cho hàng ngàn tín hữu thám dự buổi gặp gỡ từ bên
ngoài. Đức Thánh Cha nói: “Tôi xin chào anh chị em và xin cám ơn anh chị em
về sự tiếp đón nồng nhiệt. Người dân Cuba thật dễ thương, tốt lành, và họ
làm cho bạn cảm thấy như ở nhà vậy. Xin cám ơn anh chị em rất nhiều. Và tôi
muốn nói lên một lời hy vọng. Một lời hy vọng mà có lẽ sẽ làm cho chúng ta
quay đầu lui quay đầu tới. Nhìn về đàng sau: ký ức. Nhớ tới những người đã
cho chúng ta vào đời, và đặc biệt là các ông bà. Xin chào các ông bà nhiều
lắm. Chúng ta đừng quên các ông bà. Các ông bà là ký ức sống động của chúng
ta. Và nhìn về phía trước: các trẻ em và người trẻ là sức mạnh của dân tộc.
Một dân tộc săn sóc các ông bà, trẻ em và giới trẻ của mình, thì có chiến
thắng được bảo đảm! Xin Thiên Chúa chúc lành cho anh chị em. Xin hãy để tôi
ban phép lành cho anh chị em, nhưng với một điều kiện. Anh chị em phải trả
cái gì nhé: tôi xin anh chị em cầu nguyện cho tôi. Đó là điều kiện. Xin
Thiên Chúa toàn năng là Chúa Cha, Chúa Con và Chúa Thánh Thần chúc lành cho
anh chị em.
