<font face="Arial">Sau ba năm tham dự các cuộc đàm phán hòa bình giằng dai
được tổ chức tại Havana để kết thúc một cuộc nội chiến kéo dài trong gần 60
năm qua, các thành viên của tổ chức du kích cộng sản Colombia đã yêu cầu
được gặp Đức Thánh Cha Phanxicô khi ngài viếng thăm Cuba vào tháng tới để
yêu cầu sự dự phần của Tòa Thánh vào một tiến trình thương thảo đã quá lâu
mà chỉ đạt được những kết quả rất khiêm tốn.<br>

Antonio Lozada, một nhà đàm phán của Lực lượng Vũ trang Cách mạng Colombia
đã được gặp Đức Tổng Giám Mục Luis Augusto Castro, là Tổng Giám Mục Tunja và
cũng là chủ tịch Hội Đồng Giám Mục Colombia tại Havana hôm thứ Hai 17 tháng
8.<br>
<br>
Sau cuộc họp, Antonio Lozada cho biết Lực lượng Vũ trang Cách mạng Colombia
muốn được gặp Đức Thánh Cha Phanxicô khi ngài đến thăm Cuba trong thời gian
từ 19 đến 22 tháng 9 tới đây. Antonio Lozada cho rằng nếu được gặp Đức Giáo
Hoàng và nếu Tòa Thánh đồng ý cử một đại diện thường trực tham gia vào các
giai đoạn cuối cùng của đàm phán thì mọi bế tắc hiện nay sẽ được khai thông.<br>
<br>
Tòa Thánh chưa đưa ra lời bình luận chính thức nào về diễn biến này. Một nhà
ngoại giao Mỹ Latin cạnh Tòa Thánh cho rằng một đại diện của Vatican tại các
cuộc đàm phán hòa bình là điều hoàn toàn có thể, nhưng ông không bình luận
về khả năng của một cuộc họp giữa Đức Giáo Hoàng và nhóm du kích cộng sản
Colombia tại Havana.<br>

Nhiều nguồn tin tại Colombia hy vọng Đức Thánh Cha có thể bao gồm Colombia
trong chuyến tông du Nam Mỹ vào năm 2016, khi ngài trở lại thăm lần đầu tiên
quê hương Á Căn Đình của mình.<br>

Với dân số gần 50 triệu người, Colombia có cộng đồng Công Giáo lớn thứ sáu
trên thế giới, sau Brazil, Mexico, Phi Luật Tân, Hoa Kỳ, và Ý. Theo một
nghiên cứu năm 2013 của Trung tâm Nghiên cứu Pew, gần 85 phần trăm dân số
của Colombia nhận mình là người Công Giáo.</font></td>
