<font face="Arial">Một vị giám mục Công Giáo Maronite đã bày tỏ lo ngại rằng
dòng người tị nạn từ Syria sẽ thay đổi một sự cân bằng tế nhị về văn hóa và
tôn giáo ở Lebanon, mà tối hậu đẩy các Kitô hữu thiểu số đến nguy cơ tuyệt
chủng.<br>

Đức Tổng Giám Mục về hưu Simon Attallah, người đã từng lãnh đạo Công Giáo
Maronite của tổng giáo phận đông phương Deir al Ahmar nói:<br>

"Chúng tôi hiện có 2 triệu người Syria là người tị nạn đang ở Li Băng. Cố
nhiên, nhiều người sẽ trở về quê hương của họ khi chiến tranh kết thúc. Tuy
nhiên, nhiều người tị nạn sẽ ở lại và sẽ nộp đơn xin làm công dân Li Băng.
Lúc đó, tình trạng người Kitô hữu chúng tôi sẽ ra sao?"<br>

Trong một cuộc nói chuyện với tổ chức Trợ Giúp Các Giáo Hội Đau Khổ, Đức
Tổng Giám mục Attallah nhấn mạnh rằng “Chúng ta cần phải chấp nhận những
người tị nạn. Chúng ta phải hành động trong tình liên đới với những người
đau khổ. Chắc chắn rồi. Nhưng chúng ta có vấn đề rõ ràng trước mắt."<br>

Đức Tổng Giám Mục nhắc lại rằng trong thung lũng Bekaa, thuộc tổng giáo phận
ngài đã từng làm giám mục, gần biên giới Syria, 9,000 người Syria - chủ yếu
là người Hồi giáo đã tạo ra nhiều vấn đề mà ngài thấy trước là sẽ nhân rộng
lên phạm vi toàn bộ đất nước. Trong một số trường hợp, những người Hồi giáo
vũ trang phóng uế nhà thờ, ngược đãi cả những Kitô hữu bản xứ. Ngài nói rằng
ngày hôm nay, những kẻ cực đoan Sunni đã lọt vào Li Băng cùng với những
người tị nạn chân chính.<br>

Để hiểu những lo lắng của Đức Tổng Giám Mục Simon Attallah, ta cần biết rằng
vào năm 1943, Li Băng gần như toàn tòng Kitô Giáo nên Hiệp Ước quốc gia năm
1943 quy định rằng tổng thống Li Băng phải là một Kitô hữu Maronite. <br>
<br>
Ngày nay, Li Băng hiện có 6,185,000 dân trong đó người Hồi Giáo chiếm 54%,
các tín hữu Kitô thuộc mọi hệ phái chiếm 40.5%.</font></td>
