<font face="Arial">Trong khi Đức Thánh Cha Phanxicô chuẩn bị cho chuyến tông
du Hoa Kỳ tháng tới, Hoa Thịnh Đốn đang náo nức đón chào vị giáo hoàng được
rất nhiều người mến chuộng, bằng niềm vui và những âu lo. Người ta tranh
nhau xin vé để nghe Đức Thánh Cha nói chuyện trước Lưỡng Viện Quốc Hội, một
điều chưa từng có vị giáo hoàng nào làm từ trước tới nay, hay tham dự Thánh
Lễ ngoài trời tại Vương Cung Thánh Đường Đức Mẹ Vô Nhiễm Nguyên Tội. Giới
bảo vệ môi trường đã xin phép tổ chức một buổi tập hợp tại khuôn viên Hoa
Thịnh Đốn Mall với 200.000 người tham dự để đề cao lập trường cuả Đức Giáo
Hoàng về việc bảo vệ trái đất. Các quán bán đồ kỷ niệm mọc lên như nấm với
các mũ áo có hình Đức Giáo Hoàng, và cả hình lớn bằng người thật.<br>

Các gới chức của thành phố, tiểu bang và liên bang cho hay họ đang trù liệu
cho một biến cố to lớn như nghi lễ nhậm chức của Tổng Thống. Cảnh sát trưởng
tại Quốc Hội Kim Dine cho hay biến cố này quá to tát đối với ngân khoản của
ông. Ông nói ông và các giới chức cao cấp trong ngành cảnh sát đã thiết lập

ngày 22 tháng 9 để khởi sự chuyến tông du đầu tiên của ngài tại Hoa Kỳ. Ngày
hôm sau ngài sẽ thăm Tòa Bạch Ốc, gặp gỡ các giám mục Hoa Kỳ tại nhà thờ
Chánh Tòa Thánh Mát Thêu Tông Đồ và dâng Thánh Lễ tại cửa phía Đông của
Vương Cung Thánh Đường. Trong Thánh Lễ ngài sẽ phong thánh cho chân phước
Junípero Serra, một tu sĩ Dòng Phanxicô thuộc thế kỷ 18, là người đã sáng
lập các xứ truyền giáo tại California. Đức Thánh Cha sẽ thuyết trình trước
Lưỡng Viện Quốc Hội Mỹ ngày 24 tháng 9. Đêm hôm đó, ngài sẽ khởi hành đi Nữu
Ước và Phi La, nơi tổ chức Đại Hội Thế Giới về Gia Đình.<br>

Tiếng tăm Đức Thánh Cha Phanxicô ngày càng vang dội ngay từ khi ngài được
bầu làm giáo hoàng hơn hai năm trước đây, đặc biệt là trong số những người
ngoài Công Giáo và những người đã bỏ đạo, vì họ thích đường lối của ngài là
nhấn mạnh về việc giúp đỡ người nghèo, tranh đấu cho công bằng xã hội, và
bảo vệ môi trường, thay vì chú trọng đến những vấn để nóng bỏng về tính dục.
Theo một thăm dò của Trung Tâm Nghiên Cứu Pew tháng Ba năm 2015, Đức Thánh
Cha Phanxicô được 90% người Công Giáo, và 70% của toàn thể người Hoa Kỳ ưa
chuộng.<br>

Maryland, và 450.000 người thuộc Giáo Phận Arlington, bao gồm cả Miền Bắc
Virginia. Đức Hồng Y Donald Wuerl, Tổng Giáo Phận Hoa Thịnh Đốn cho hay
25.000 ghế ngồi trong Thánh Lễ tại Vương Cung Thánh Đường sẽ được phân phối
qua các giáo xứ tùy thuộc bất cứ cách thức nào các cha xứ lựa chọn giống như
năm 2008 khi Đức Giáo Hoàng Benedict đến National Park. Tuy nhiên sẽ đặc
