<font face="Arial">ATHENES: Trong những ngày này các Giáo Hội Kitô đang mạnh
mẽ phát động chiến dịch trợ giúp người nghèo bên Hy Lạp, đặc biệt các gia
đình đông con, gia đình chỉ có cha hay mẹ với con cái tàn tật, và người thất
nghiệp đã lâu.<br>
<br>
Ngày 29 tháng 7 vùa qua ông Lauprêtre Julien, chủ tịch tổ chức bác ái Pháp,
kêu gọi tình liên đới của kitô hữu Pháp đối với các anh chị em Hy Lạp, vì
tại Hy Lạp trẻ em và các gia đình đang gặp nạn đói.<br>
<br>
Giáo Hội chính thống Hy Lạp đang cố gắng hết sức để làm nhẹ bớt gánh nặng
khổ đau cuả dân chúng. Trong thủ đô Athènes các giáo xứ đang phân phát hàng
ngàn bữa ăn miễn phí cho dân chúng. Từ năm ngoái tới nay dã có nửa triệu
người được trợ giúp, 280 địa điểm phát thực phẩm đã được bố trí để trợ giúp
người nghèo, và đã có 75.000 người tìm đến mua thực phẩm tại các “quán xã
hội”. Giáo Hội chính thống đã bỏ ra 121 triệu Euros cho các sinh hoạt này.
Trong các tuần qua các toà thị sảnh địa phương cũng dấn thân trong công tác
cứu trợ, qua việc trợ giúp thực phẩm, thuốc men và quần áo. Rất nhiều tổ
chức bác ái và thiện nguyện viên, tuy cũng là nạn nhân của cuộc khủng hoảng
kinh tế tài chánh, nhưng cũng hy sinh trợ giúp những gia đình không có điện
nước. Các hãng xưởng địa phương cũng giúp một tay trong công tác cứu trợ.
Chẳng hạn hệ thống quán bán bánh “Venetis” đã phân phát mỗi ngày hơn 100.000
bánh mì tròn lớn tại 80 tiệm của mỉnh, tức 1/3 số bánh sản xuất mỗi ngày.<br>

Cả trong các khu phố khá giả của thủ đô Athènes dân chúng cũng xuống đường
để tìm thực phẩm. Chẳng hạn ông Pedikas, họa sĩ thất nghiệp, cứ chờ khi nào
giá thực phẩm giảm phân nửa mới đi chợ. Khi không thể mua thì ông đi lượm
rau trái hàng quán vứt bỏ về ăn.<br>

Giáo Hội Chính Thống sẵn sàng bỏ tài sản của mình để trợ giúp dân chúng và
đương đầu với các nợ nần của chính quyền. Hiện nay tại Hy lạp số người thất
nghiệp cao nhất Âu châu 24,8%, tiếp đến là Tây Ban Nha 22,6% rồi tới Bồ Đào
