thuật các nguồn tin địa phương từ thủ đô nước Burundi: "hôm nay, dân chúng
mừng lễ độc lập quốc gia. Lễ kỷ niệm đã diễn ra ở trung tâm thủ đô Bujumbura
không có gì đáng tiếc xẩy ra. Nhưng các đường chung quanh ngoại ô đã bị
phong tỏa để ngăn chặn các đoàn người biểu tình của phe đối lập.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Trước đó vào ngày 29 tháng sáu, đã diễn ra các cuộc bầu
cử hội đồng thị xã và lập pháp. Cuộc bầu cử đã bị phe đối lập và cộng đồng
quốc tế tẩy chay và phản đối, vì tình hình căng thẳng gây ra sau khi tổng
thống Pierre Nkurunziza đương nhiệm thông báo muốn ra ứng cử tổng thống thêm
một nhiệm kỳ thứ ba sẽ được tổ chức vào ngày 15 tháng bảy, mặc dầu vi phạm
hiến pháp. Trong các cuộc xung đột mấy tuần qua, tối thiểu đã có 70 người
thiệt mạng.<br>

Hãng thông tấn Fides đã loan theo nguồn tin yêu cầu giấu tên vì lý do an
ninh: "Ngay khi kết quả cuộc kiểm phiếu một phần được công bố, ứng cử viên
của các đảng đối lập đã nhận được đa số phiếu, mặc dầu họ đã tẩy chay cuộc
bầu cử. Lý do vì dân quân vũ trang thuộc phe đa số tổng thống đã gây áp lực
ép dân chúng phải đi bầu, nhưng người dân đã can đảm nói lên tiếng nói bất
đồng của họ bằng cách dồn phiếu cho phe đối lập. Chung cuộc, Đồng minh đảng
của tổng thống chỉ nhận được rất ít phiếu bầu.<br>

"Chúng tôi đang chờ đợi kết quả cuối cùng. Trong mọi trường hợp, các tổ chức
của phe đối lập, xã hội dân sự và cộng đồng quốc tế (Liên Hiệp Quốc, Liên
hiệp Phi Châu, Hoa Kỳ, liên minh châu Âu) đều tuyên bố rằng đó là cuộc bầu
cử bất hợp lệ, vì bối cảnh hỗn độn đã xẩy ra (bạo lực, đe dọa và đóng cửa
của các phương tiện thông tin độc lập, thiếu các quan sát viên độc lập trong
cuộc bầu cử)'.<br>

“Trong tình thế hiện nay, chúng tôi đang phải đương đầu với rất nhiều khó
khăn, mặc dầu có thỏa thuận ngừng bắn. Nhưng dân chúng tiếp tục chạy trốn ra
nước ngoài, di tản tới nước láng giềng (Rwanda, Uganda, Cộng hòa dân chủ
Congo và Tanzania) và Kenya hoặc những người có tiền của có thể di tản xa
hơn nữa tới châu Âu. Theo ước tính sơ khởi của chúng tôi, đã có khoảng
200.000 người Burundi đã đi tỵ nạn tại nước ngoài. Hãng thông tấn Fides còn
tiết lộ thêm: Có 4 hoặc 5 linh mục cũng phải di tản vì bị đe dọa đến tính
