bẩy 2-5-2015, tại Chủng viện Bắc Mỹ gần Vatican. ĐTC đến viếng thăm trường
này vào cuối cuộc Hội thảo quốc tế tại đây về cuộc sống và hoạt động của
chân phước Serra sẽ được ĐTC tôn phong hiển thánh ngày 23-9 năm nay tại thủ
đô Washington, trong cuộc viếng thăm của ngài tại Hoa Kỳ từ 22 đến 27-9.</font></p>

Nha và đến hoạt động truyền giáo tại Mêhicô. Sau đó cha từ đây sang lãnh thổ
Hoa kỳ để truyền đạo và lập 21 cứ điểm truyền giáo tại miền ngày nay là bang
California.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Trong bài giảng, trước hết ĐTC đề cao tấm gương của cha
Junípero Serra như một thừa sai không biết mệt mỏi, giã từ quê hương, gia
đình, từ bỏ công danh sự nghiệp và cộng đoàn để đi tới tận cùng trái đất, vì
lòng hăng say loan báo Tin Mừng cho dân ngoại, tức là một động lực nội tâm
muốn chia sẻ với những người xa xôi nhất hồng ân gặp gỡ với Chúa Kitô. ĐTC
nói: ”Ước gì lòng nhiệt thành ấy gợi lên nơi chúng ta một thách đố lớn.. Tôi
tự hỏi: ngày nay chúng ta có khả năng đáp lại tiếng gọi của Chúa với cùng
một lòng quảng đại và can đảm như vậy hay không?”</font></p>

<font face="Arial">- Thứ hai là lòng sùng kính của Cha Serra đối với Đức Mẹ.
Cha đã phó thác công trình truyền giáo cho Mẹ Maria cực thánh. Trước khi ra
đi đến miền California, cha Serra đã phó dâng cuộc sống cho Đức Mẹ Guadalupe
và xin Mẹ ơn được mở tâm hồn những người định cư và thổ dân cho sứ mạng cha
sắp khởi sự... ĐTC nhận định rằng: không thể tách rời Mẹ Maria ra khỏi tâm
hồn người dân Mỹ châu. Mẹ là căn cội chung của đại lụcnày. Đúng hơn, sứ vụ
truyền giáo ở Mỹ châu ngày nay được phó thác cho Đấng là môn đệ và thừa sai
thánh thiện đầu tiên, là sự hiện diện và là nguồn an ủi, hy vọng”.</font></p>

Người là một trong những người cha sáng lập Hoa Kỳ, là vị thánh của thế giới
Công Giáo và là người đặc biệt bảo vệ các tín hữu nói tiếng Tây Ban Nha của
đất nước này, để toàn thể dân Mỹ châu tái khám phá phẩm giá của mình bằng
cách ngày càng củng cố sự thuộc về Chúa Kitô và Giáo Hội của Chúa”.</font></p>
