Bênêđictô. Ngài nói tiếng Latinh trôi chảy và hoàn hảo”. Còn Đức giáo hoàng

phòng Toà Thánh về tiếng Latinh thuộc Phủ Quốc vụ khanh Tòa Thánh. Đây là
văn phòng duy nhất trên thế giới mà các nhân viên nói chuyện với nhau bằng
tiếng Latinh. Cha Gallagher cho biết, trong một cuộc phỏng vấn với tờ
Famiglia Cristiana, đây cũng là nơi viết và dịch các tài liệu của Toà Thánh

<font face="Arial">Cha còn nói, một ngôn ngữ cần phải có tính nhân văn (humanitas)
và nhấn mạnh: nếu bảo tiếng Latinh là một “ngôn ngữ thánh”, nghĩa là “bất
biến” là không đúng. Sở dĩ nó thánh thiêng vì người ta sử dụng nó, chứ không
phải vì Thiên Chúa đã bỏ nó vào một cái hộp rồi thả từ trời xuống. Nhưng
chúng ta đã làm cho nó mất đi tính thánh thiêng từ nhiều thế kỷ nay. Theo
cha, đó là một sai lầm. Tại sao? Vì Giáo hội chẳng phải của riêng ai, Giáo
hội không phải của Barnaba hay của Phêrô, và tiếng Latinh tượng trưng cho
tính phổ quát, tiếng Latinh không phải là tiếng mẹ đẻ của ai cả.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Mối quan tâm của cha là giữ cho tiếng Latinh được sống,
mặc dù ngày càng ít được sử dụng trong Giáo hội. Trên thế giới chỉ có 5.000
người nói tiếng Latinh trôi chảy. Và không phải tất cả những người ấy đều là
linh mục. Chỉ có khoảng 200 linh mục và một ít vị hồng y nói được tiếng

Terence thì thích hợp hơn cho các cụm từ ngắn hoặc hình thức mang tính pháp
lý hơn. Đối với các tweet chúng tôi có xu hướng lấy cảm hứng từ Terence, đôi
khi chúng tôi lại lấy ý tưởng của Martial. Phong cách dí dỏm của Martial
khiến cho các tweet như được viết vào thời của ông”.</font></p>
