thánh lễ tại Đền thờ Thánh Phêrô nhân dịp tưởng niệm biến cố đau thương: 100

Nhĩ Kỳ. Trong thánh lễ ngài cũng tôn phong thánh Gregorio Nazek người Armeni
làm Tiến Sĩ Hội Thánh</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Cuộc diệt chủng này xảy ra vào cuối triều đại của Vua Hồi
giáo Abdul Hamid II của Đế quốc Ottoman, rồi dưới thời gọi là ”Những người
Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ trẻ”. Năm 1915, sau khi đóng cửa các trường học, thánh đường và
bãi bỏ các tổ chức Arméni, chính quyền Thổ hồi đó đã mở cuộc truy lùng và
tàn sát người Arméni, với những vụ bạo hành, hãm hiếp, hạ nhục, rồi các cuộc
phát lưu vào sa mạc, với vô số người Arméni thiệt mạng. Chỉ những người nào
chạy sang Nga, Siria và Liban mới thoát nạn.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Năm 1920, Hội nghị Paris đã nhìn nhận cuộc diệt chủng
Arméni và nhiều nước khác cũng nhìn nhận biến cố này. Nhưng Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ vẫn
luôn phủ nhận sự kiện này, tuy rằng hồi năm 2014, Thủ tướng Recep Tayyip
Erdogan, nay là Tổng thống Thổ Nhĩ kỳ, đã chia buồn với con cháu những người
Arméni bị thảm sát.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Giáo Hội Arméni Tông Truyền được thánh Gregorio vị Soi
Sáng thành lập cách đây hơn 17 thế kỷ, tức là vào năm 301, và hiện có tòa
Tổng Thượng phụ ở Echmiadzin ở Cộng hòa Arméni, với các tín hữu ở Hoa Kỳ,
Pháp, Nga, Liban, Siria, Canada và nhiều nước khác. Ngoài ra có tòa Thượng
Phụ ở Cilicia ở Liban.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Một ngành của Giáo Hội này đã trở về hiệp nhất với Tòa
Thánh hồi năm 1742 và hiện có khoảng 540 ngàn tín hữu. Công Giáo Arméni cũng
chịu thảm trạng diệt chủng với 156 nhà thờ, 32 tu viện, 148 trường học, 6
chủng viện bị tàn phá, 270 nữ tu và 300 LM bị giết.</font></p>

Phêrô, có 9 ngàn tín hữu đa số là người Armeni đến từ các nơi trên thế giới,
và đặc biệt có Tổng thống Cộng hòa Arméni, Đức Tổng Thượng Phụ Karekin II ở
Arméni và Thượng Phụ Aram I của Giáo Hội Arméni Tông truyền ở Liban, Đức
Thượng Phụ Nerses Bedros XIX của Công Giáo Arméni và hơn 20 GM của Giáo Hội
này.</font></p>

quyền và Giáo Hội Arméni, Giáo Hội Tông truyền và Công Giáo, ĐTC tố giác
thảm trạng diệt chủng mà dân tộc Arméni phải chịu cách đây 100 năm, cuộc
diệt chủng đầu tiên trong thế kỷ 20, tiếp đến là các dân tộc khác, Do thái,
Kampuchia, Ruanda, Burundi, Bosnia và nhiều nước khác. Ngài nhận định rằng

”thời nay, là một thời kỳ thế chiến tranh thứ 3 từng mảnh, trong đó chúng ta

<font face="Arial">Thánh Gregorio sinh khoảng năm 950 tại làng Narek thuộc
cộng hòa Arméni trong một gia đình văn sĩ và mồ côi mẹ khi còn nhỏ. Ngài là
cháu của tu huynh Anania Narekatsi, người sáng lập Đan viện Narek và là một
trong những tiến sĩ nổi tiếng nhất thời ấy, với biệt danh là ”triết gia”.</font></p>

Mẹ là Đấng mà cha đặc biệt sùng kính. Đặc tính này trong linh đạo của thánh

Đức Mẹ là hai tác phẩm qua đó người ta có thể khám phá được một nền thần học

<font face="Arial">Lúc sinh thời, thánh Gregorio đã nổi bật về sự thánh
thiện và một số phép lạ. Năm 1003, ngài viết tác phẩm nổi tiếng nhất với tựa
đề ”Sách ai ca”, cũng gọi là sách Narek. Đây là tác phẩm độc nhất thuộc loại
này, gồm những lời cầu khẩn, những lời tự nhủ, đối thoại với Thiên Chúa..
Cuốn Narek gồm 95 chương, dài ngắn rất khác nhau. Thánh Gregorio qua đời năm
1010, thọ 60 tuổi. Mộ của thánh nhân trở thành nơi thu hút các tín hữu đến
hành hương cho đến năm 1915 là thời kỳ cuộc tàn sát của Thổ nhĩ kỳ chống dân
Arméni. Đan viện cũng như mộ thánh nhân bị phá hủy.</font></p>

”Tại sao?”. Sự tàn ác của con người có thể mở ra trên thế giới những vực
thẳm, những hố trống lớn lao: trống rỗng tình thương, trống rỗng điều thiện,
trống rỗng sự sống. Lúc ấy chúng ta tự hỏi: làm sao chúng ta có thể lấp đầy

của thế giới, ”lương tâm bị nao núng, nhưng sẽ không bị rúng động vì tôi nhớ

Thượng Phụ Aram I của Giáo Hội tông truyền ở Arméni và Cilicia bên Liban đã
ngỏ lời cám ơn ĐTC và đồng thời cũng mạnh mẽ lên án cuộc diệt chủng mà dân
tộc Arméni đã phải chịu. Đức Tổng thượng phụ cho biết ngày 23-4 tới đây,
Giáo Hội Arméni Tông truyền sẽ tưởng niệm các nạn nhân cuộc diệt chủng và
ngài sẽ phong thánh cho tất cả các nạn nhân Arméni bị tiêu diệt như thế. Còn
Đức Aram I gọi đó thảm trạng diệt chủng này là một tội ác chống lại nhân

Armeni, ngài đã cám ơn ĐTC vì đã tôn phong thánh Gregorio Narek làm tiến sĩ
Hội thánh, vị thánh được dân tộc Armeni sùng kính bậc nhất và ảnh hưởng sâu
rộng đến lòng đạo đức của các tín hữu. Ngài nói: ”Trong dịp tưởng niệm 100
năm cuộc diệt chủng sát hại gần 1 triệu rưỡi ngài Armeni vì họ là tín hữu
Kitô, con tin tưởng rằng việc tôn phong thánh Gregorio Narek làm tiến sĩ Hội
Thánh, sẽ là một biến cố làm gia tăng lòng sùng mộ đối với thánh nhân, và
điều này sẽ giúp dân tộc Arméni khắc phục những bất hạnh và tai ương đã đổ
ập trên họ cách đây một thế kỷ, và tất cả các dân tộc Kitô giáo, nhất là tại
