<font face="Arial">10. Tình thương là chính nền tảng của đời sống Giáo Hội.
Tất cả mọi hoạt động mục vụ của Giáo Hội cần phải được gắn bó với niềm êm ái
dịu dàng Giáo Hội tỏ ra với các tín hữu; không một sự gì nơi việc giảng dạy
của Giáo Hội cũng như nơi chứng từ của Giáo Hội trước thế giới lại có thể
vắng bóng tình thương. Chính cái uy tín của Giáo Hội được nhận thấy ở cách
thức Giáo Hội tỏ ra cho thấy tình yêu nhân hậu và cảm thương. Giáo Hội "có
một ước muốn khôn nguôi bày tỏ cho thấy tình thương" (Apostolic Exhortation
Evangelii Gaudium, 24). Có lẽ chúng ta đã quên đi từ lâu lắm rồi cách thức
tỏ bày và sống đường lối của tình thương. Một đàng thì khuynh hướng chỉ tập
trung vào công lý làm cho chúng ta quên rằng công lý chỉ là những gì đầu
tiên mặc dù là một bước cần thiết và bất khả châm chước. Thế nhưng Giáo Hội
cần phải tiến xa hơn nữa và nỗ lực đạt tới một mục đích cao hơn và quan
trọng hơn. Đàng khác, đáng buồn thay, chúng ta cần phải công nhận rằng việc
thực hành tình thương là những gì đang bị suy tàn trong một nền văn hóa bao

nữa. Tuy nhiên, không có chứng từ tình thương thì đời sống trở thành thui

Giáo Hội cần phải tiếp tục ơn gọi hân hoan về tình thương một lần nữa. Đã
đến lúc trở về với những gì là căn bản và mang lấy những yếu hèn cùng các
thứ chống chọi của anh chị em chúng ta. Tình thương là năng lực làm chúng ta
tái bừng lên sự sống mới và thâm nhập trong chúng ta lòng can đảm hy vọng
nhìn về tương lai.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">11. Chúng ta đừng quên giáo huấn cao cả của Thánh Gioan
Phaolô II gửi cho chúng ta trong bức Thông Điệp thứ 2 của ngài, Giầu Lòng
Thương Xót - Dives in Misericordia, một thông điệp vào lúc ấy là những gì
không ngờ lại có, mà đề tài của bức thông điểm này đã làm cho nhiều người
cảm thấy ngỡ ngàng. Có 2 đoạn đặc biệt tôi muốn nhấn mạnh đến. Đoạn thứ
nhất, Thánh Gioan Phaolô II đã nhấn mạnh đến sự kiện là chúng ta đã quên vấn
đề về tình thương trong môi trường văn hóa ngày nay: "Tâm thức của ngày hôm
nay đây, có lẽ hơn tâm thức của con người ta trong quá khứ, dường như chống
lại với một Vị Thiên Chúa của tình thương, thực sự là có khuynh hướng loại
trừ ra khỏi đời sống và tẩy chay khỏi tâm can của con người chính ý nghĩ
tình thương. Từ ngữ và quan niệm 'tình thương' dường như gây ra cái cảm giác
khó chịu nơi con người, thành phần mà nhờ sự phát triển khổng lồ về khoa học
và kỹ thuật, chưa từng thấy trong lịch sử, đã trở thành chủ nhân ông của
trái đất này và đã làm chủ cùng thống trị nó (xem Khởi Nguyên 1:28). Việc
thống trị trái đất này, đôi khi được hiểu theo một chiều và hời hợt, dường
như không còn chỗ đứng cho tình thương... Và đó là lý do tại sao, trong tình
trạng của Giáo Hội và thế giới ngày nay, nhiều cá nhân và tập thể được hướng
dẫn bởi một cảm quan sống động của đức tin đang quay về, tôi có thể nói là
hầu như một cách bộc phát tự nhiên, với tình thương của Thiên Chúa"

và chứng từ cho tình thương một cách khẩn trương hơn nữa trong thế giới hiện
đại: "Nó được thúc đẩy bởi tình yêu thương giành cho con người, giành cho
tất cả những gì là nhân bản và là những gì, theo trực giác của nhiều người
đồng thời của chúng ta, đang bị đe dọa bởi một mối nguy hiểm ngút ngàn. Mầu
nhiệm của Chúa Kitô... buộc tôi phải loan báo tình thương như là tình yêu
nhân hậu của Thiên Chúa, một tình yêu được mạc khải cũng ở nơi mầu nhiệm

được tái tiếp tục trong Năm Thánh này. Chúng ta hãy nghe lời ngài một lần
nữa: "Giáo Hội sống một đời sống chân thực khi Giáo Hội tuyên xưng và loan
báo tình thương - một phẩm tính kỳ diệu nhất của Đấng Hóa Công và của Đấng
Cứu Chuộc - cũng như khi Giáo Hội mang con người đến gần với các nguồn mạch
tình thương của Đấng Cứu Thế, một tình thương mà Giáo Hội là ký thác viên và

<font face="Arial">12. Giáo Hội được sai đi loan báo tình thương của Thiên
Chúa là con tim đang rung đập của Phúc Âm, một tình thương theo cách thức
của mình cần phải thấm nhập tâm trí của hết mọi người. Hiền Thê của Chúa
Kitô cần phải khuôn mẫu hành vi cử chỉ của mình theo gương Con Thiên Chúa,
Đấng đã tiến đến với hết mọi người không trừ ai. Vào ngày hôm nay đây, khi
Giáo Hội đang chuyển mình với công việc tân truyền bá phúc âm hóa, đề tài
tình thương là những gì cần phải được đề ra một lần nữa bằng một nhiệt tình
mới và hoạt động mục vụ đổi mới. Thật là vô cùng cần thiết đối với Giáo Hội
cũng như đối với thế giá sứ điệp của Giáo Hội mà chính Giáo Hội phải sống và
làm chứng cho tình thương. Ngôn ngữ của Giáo Hội và cử chỉ của Giáo Hội cần
phải truyền đạt tình thương, để có thể chạm đến tâm can của tất cả mọi người
và phấn chấn họ một lần nữa trong việc tìm kiếm con đường dẫn về cùng Chúa
Cha.</font></p>
