<font face="Arial">Ngày mùng 3 tháng 5 tới đây tổng giáo phận Olinda và
Recife bên Brasil sẽ chính thức mở án phong chân phước cho ĐC Helder Câmara,
nguyên TGM giáo phận từ năm 1964 tới 1985. ĐC Câmara sinh ngày mùng 7 tháng
2 năm 1909 tại Fortaleza, và là con thứ 11 trong một gia đình rất khiêm tốn,
có 13 người con. Thân phụ là ông João Eduardo Tores Câmara Filho, làm nghề
bán sách. Mẹ là bà Adelaide Pessoa Câmara, giáo viên trường tiểu học. Ông
Câmara quyết định lấy tên thành phố cảng nhỏ Den Helder bên Hòa Lan đặt tên
cho con. Chú bé Helder mất đi 5 người anh khi tuổi còn nhỏ, vì bệnh dịch
bạch hầu. Thụ phong linh mục năm 1931 tại Rio de Janeiro cha Helder được chỉ
định làm Giám Mục phụ tá giáo phận này năm 1952. Tại đây ĐC Helder Câmara
thành lập “Ngân hàng Quan Phòng thánh Sebastiano” để trợ giúp người nghèo và
những người bị gạt bỏ ngoài lề xã hội. ĐC cũng là người tổ chức Đại Hội
Thánh Thể Quốc Tế lần thứ 36 tại Rio de Janeiro, và là thư ký rất năng nổ
của Hội Đồng Giám Mục Brasil. Cùng với nhiều Giám Mục khác ĐC Câmara đã tham
dự Công Đồng Chung Vaticăng II và đã đóng góp nhiều ý kiến cho Công Đồng.
Ngài cũng đã là người đề xướng điều sẽ được gọi là “ưu tiên lựa chọn người
nghèo”. Ngày 12 tháng 3 năm 1964 ĐC được ĐGH Phaolô VI chỉ định làm Tổng
Giám Mục Olinda và Recife. Được các bề trên thúc đẩy ĐC đã hăng say làm việc
để giải quyết các vấn đề của dân nghèo sống trong các khu xóm ổ chuột vùng
ngoại ô. Chính vì thế ngài cũng được gọi là vị “Giám Mục của các xóm nghèo ổ
chuột”. ĐC Helder Câmara cũng tổ chức cuộc gặp gỡ của các tôn giáo lớn cũng
như phát động chiến dịch “Một năm 2000 không còn bần cùng nữa”. Ngài cũng đã
là một trong các vị đi tiên phong của nền thần học giải phóng mỹ châu la
tinh, và là một trong những người đã bao gồm trong nền thần học này cả chiều
kích chính trị và chiều kích tu đức của lòng tin kitô.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Dưới sự hướng dẫn của ngài Giáo Hội Brasil trở thành
tiếng nói phê bình chế độ quân phiệt độc tài thống trị Brasil từ năm 1964
tới 1985, và dấy lên phong trào thay đổi xã hội. ĐC Câmara lên tiếng và viết
chống lại việc sử dụng bạo lực đàn áp sự nổi loạn của dân chúng, nảy sinh từ
cảnh sống nghèo túng và bất công mà họ phải gánh chịu. Ngài cũng cho ấn hành
tập sách nhỏ tựa đề “Ốc xoáy bạo lực”, trong khi Hoa Kỳ leo thang chiến
tranh tại Việt Nam. Trong tập sách nhỏ này ĐC Câmara gắn liền cơ cấu bất
công là loại bạo lực mức độ 1, với sự nổi loạn là bạo lực mức độ 2, với việc
đàn áp là bạo lực mức độ 3. Ngài kêu gọi giới trẻ toàn thế giới dấn thân bẻ
gẫy vòng xoáy bạo lực đó, vì các thế hệ già đã đầu hàng các bước leo thang
ấy. ĐC Câmara đã nhận được nhiều giải thưởng. Năm 1973 ngài đã được Ủy ban
phục vụ thân hữu Mỹ chỉ định cho giải thưởng Nobel Hòa Bình. Năm 1975 ĐC
nhận giải thưởng Hòa Bình Dưới Thế do Hội đồng Công Giáo liên chủng tộc giáo
phận Davenport bang Iowa Hoa Kỳ trao tặng</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Năm 1985 ĐTGM Câmara từ chức về hưu vì tới tuổi theo giáo
luật định. Nhưng ĐC vẫn tiếp tục sống trong căn hộ bình dân tại Recife, khi
ĐC được chỉ định làm TGM giáo phận, và ngài đã qua đời tại đây ngày 27 tháng
8 năm 1999.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">ĐTGM Helder Câmara đã là một gương mặt chủ chăn có cuộc
sống khó nghèo đơn sơ ngoại thường, hoàn toàn dành trọn mọi sức lực cho việc
thăng tiến cuộc sống của dân nghèo. Đây có lẽ là nét khiến cho ĐC giống ĐTC
Phanxicô.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Đáp: Chắc chắn rồi, có sự tương tự rất lớn giữa ĐTC
Phanxicô và ĐC Helder Câmara. Ngoài ra ĐC Câmara cũng sang Argentina, vì thế
ngài cũng đã được biết đến bởi môi trường Giáo Hội Argentina, mà Đức
Bergoglio là thành phần. Chắc chắn là có sự đồng thanh giữa hai vị liên quan
tới đề tài người nghèo. Đức Bergoglio nói về người nghèo như là “thịt xác
Chúa Kitô” và ĐC Câmara thì nói về người nghèo như là một người anh chị em,
trong đó người ta gặp gỡ sự hiện diện của Thiên Chúa. Như vậy có một sự đồng
thanh rất lớn giữa hai vị. Các vùng ngoại biên, các xóm nghèo lao động lại
là một đề tài khác nữa liên kết hai vị với nhau, và nói chung hai vị cũng có
một chút ý tưởng của Giáo Hội có cái nhìn của lòng thương xót, của niềm hy
vọng, rộng mở 360 độ, nghĩa là cho tất cả mọi phía.</font></p>

Phanxicô gây ấn tượng rất mạnh và sâu đậm trên xã hội ngày nay. Thế sứ điệp
của ĐC Helder Câmara đã đánh động xã hội thời của ngài như thế nào, thưa ông?</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Đáp: ĐC Câmara đã là một trong những vị đầu tiên tố cáo
thế không quân bình giữa các nước kỹ nghệ giầu miền bắc bán cầu và các nước
nghèo chậm tiến miền nam bán cầu. Chúng ta hãy nhớ là trên bình diện huấn
quyền ngài đã chiếm được địa vị nổi tiếng quốc tế giữa các năm cuối thập
niên 1960 và đầu thập niên 1970. Vì thế việc tố cáo tinh thần thế tục là tại
sự kiện có một phần của thế giới giầu theo đuổi các huyền thoại của tiến bộ,
của giầu có kinh tế, để lại sau lưng các đám đông nghèo khổ, bị loại bỏ khỏi
xã hội vv… Nhưng điều này là sự tố cáo trên bình diện xã hội tổng quát cũng
như bên trong lòng Giáo Hội. Trong thời Công Đồng Chung Vaticăng II ĐTGM
Câmara đã là một trong những người thăng tiến cái gọi là “Hiệp ước Hang Toại
Đạo”. Hồi đó ĐC Câmara đã cũng 40 nghị phụ khác đồng tế thánh lễ tại Nghĩa
trang kitô cổ, tức tại Hang Toại Đạo Thánh Callisto và cũng nhau ký vào một
hiệp ước hứa sẽ nỗ lực làm nảy sinh ra từ Công Đồng Chung Vaticăng II một
Giáo Hội được canh tân một cách sâu rộng trong dấu chỉ của sự nghèo khó, của
sự lột bỏ các biểu tượng bề ngoài. Chính ĐC Câmara đã đeo một cây thánh giá
không có một chút giá trị gì trên bình diện kinh tế, vì ngài đã muốn phát
động loại sứ điệp này của tinh thần khó nghèo. Chính tôi khi đến thăm phòng
ngài, tôi đã trông thấy các khung cảnh rất trần trụi, nghèo nàn. Trong phòng
có một cái võng nơi ĐC ngủ, vài đồ đạc nhỏ thô sơ, một thư viện rất là hạn
chế. Cả trong cuộc sống cụ thể thường ngày nữa, ngài cũng hơi giống ĐTC
Phanxicô hiện nay trong nhà trọ Thánh Marta vậy. ĐC Câmara làm chứng cho
kiểu sống vô cùng đạm bạc này, chống lại tinh thần thế tục.</font></p>

người ta đã nói về ĐC Câmara cho rằng là ngài một linh mục “cộng sản”, bởi
vì chú ý phục vụ dân nghèo. Tại sao cái nhãn hiệu này không bao giờ chết
thưa ông?</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Đáp: Bởi vì trong lịch sử đã có các giai thoại, và không
chỉ là một giai thoại thôi, của vài giới chức trong Giáo Hội rơi trượt vào ý
thức hệ một cách thực tiễn: khi phục vụ người nghèo, các vị đã rơi vào
khuynh một hướng chiến đấu chính trị hơn, và đã phản bội các lý tưởng phúc
âm. Nhưng điều này không cho phép ai có quyền dán các nhãn hiệu không thiện
cảm như nhãn hiệu giám mục “cộng sản” cho ĐC Câmara hồi đó, và cho ĐTC
Phanxicô bây giờ. Đó là các kiểu nói máy móc khó mà chết, chúng ta cần phải
gột bỏ không để cho nó dính vào mình. Nếu một người đọc các thư, mà ĐC
Câmara gửi đi từ Công Đồng Chung Vaticăng II, thì sẽ tìm thấy một người có
một nền tu đức rất sâu xa, một con người cầu nguyện rất nhiều, và yêu cầu
người ta cầu nguyện, một con người có một kiểu tiếp cận với xã hội, không
phải từ các lý thuyết ý thức hệ, hay từ các lược đồ trừu tượng tạo ra từ bàn
giấy, nhưng khởi hành từ một sự phân định dưới ánh sáng của Lời Chúa, và như
thế có một cái nhìn tuyệt đối thuộc loại thiêng liêng, nhưng đòi hỏi có các
thay đổi xã hội. ĐC Câmara đã yêu cầu một loạt các lựa chọn rất cụ thể.
Nhưng điểm khởi hành đã rất là rõ ràng, nhân danh giáo huấn của Chúa Giêsu
và Tin Mừng yêu thương.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Đáp: Có một gia tài cụ thể trên bình diện huấn quyền, bởi
vì bên Brasil Học viện Helder Câmara đang từ từ cho in các bút tích của ĐC
Câmara. Đã bao nhiêu năm trôi qua kể từ khi ngài qua đời, và nhất là kể từ
thời gian nóng bỏng nhất trong giáo huấn của ngài, những gì ngài viết vẫn
còn rất thời sự. Sự kiện này chứng minh cho thấy ĐC Câmara đã tiếp nhận dấu
chỉ thời đại, và việc đọc hiểu dấu chỉ đó đã không đâm rễ nơi một cái gì
ngẫu nhiên, nhưng đã đi sâu hơn nhiều. Thế rồi còn có một gia tài sâu xa hơn
nữa trong kiểu, qua đó Giáo Hội Brasil nói riêng và Giáo Hội tại châu Mỹ
Latinh nói chung, đã ưu tiên lựa chọn người nghèo. Nếu Giáo Hội Công Giáo
Brasil và Giáo Hội Công Giáo tại châu Mỹ Latinh nói chúng, đã làm một lộ
trình nào đó, mặc dầu có sự soi mòn trong môi trường tin lành, Giáo Hội hiện
vẫn đang được sự đồng tình của dân chúng chính bởi vì Giáo Hội đáng tin cậy,
vì Giáo Hội là bạn của dân nghèo, vì là một Giáo Hội thực sự sống các giá
trị của Tin Mừng. Và điều này sở dĩ có được cũng là nhờ ĐTGM Helder Câmara.
