Naples, và sau khi ngài ngỏ lời cùng hàng giáo sĩ và giáo dân ở Vương Cung
Thánh Đường Đức Mẹ Mông Triệu ở Naples Ý quốc, một phép lạ đã xẩy ra. Đó là
máu của Thánh Gennaro, được đựng trong một hộp quí, đang ở thể đông đặc chảy
ra sau khi Đức Thánh Cha Phanxicô cầm lấy hôn kính. Phép lạ xẩy ra ở chỗ máu
không chảy vào đúng ngày 19/9 như hằng năm mà chảy ra ngay sau khi được vị
giáo hoàng đương kim Phanxicô hôn kính, và chỉ sau khi vị giáo hoàng đương
kim này hôn kính, chứ không xẩy ra khi được Chân Phước Giáo Hoàng Piô IX,
Thánh Giáo Hoàng Gioan Phaolô II và Đức Giáo Hoàng Biển Đức XVI hôn kính
trước đó. </font></p>

<font face="Arial">Vương Cung Thánh Đường Đức Mẹ Mông Triệu là nơi từng giữ
huyết thánh tích của Thánh Gennaro / Januarius, vị thánh giám mục tử đạo từ
đầu thế kỷ thứ 4 dưới thời hoàng đế Dioclesian và là quan thày của Thành
Naples. Từ năm 1389, huyết tích của thánh nhân loãng ra 18 lần 1 năm: Thứ
Bảy trước Chúa Nhật đầu Tháng 5 và 8 ngày liền sau đó, vào chính ngày lễ của
vị thánh là 19/9 và kéo dài suốt tuần bát nhật, và vào ngày 16/12 hằng năm.
Gần đây huyết tích của vị thánh chỉ còn loãng ra 3 lần 1 năm: vào ngày lễ
kính ngài là 19/9, vào ngày 16/12 là ngày kỷ niệm biến cố núi lửa Vesuvius
phun năm 1631, và vào ngày Chúa Nhật đầu Tháng 5, ngày kỷ niệm các hài tích
của vị thánh được chuyển về Thành Naples. </font></p>

Gennaro yêu mến Đức Giáo Hoàng Phanxicô, ở chỗ một nửa lượng máu đã loãng ra".
Mọi người hiện diện đã vô tay reo mừng. Thế nhưng, Đức Thánh Cha Phanxicô,
theo bản chất vốn hài hước của mình, đã lợi dụng dịp này để phấn khích như
sau: "Nếu chỉ có một nửa lượng máu loãng ra thì có nghĩa là chúng ta còn cần
phải làm việc; chúng ta còn cần phải làm tốt hơn nữa. Chúng ta mới được một
nửa tình yêu của thánh nhân thôi". Thế nhưng, lúc Đức Thánh Cha chứng kiến
thì mới có một nửa lượng máu loãng ra, sau đó, máu của vị thánh đã tiếp tục
