trọn 10 tiếng đồng hồ để viếng thăm mục vụ tại Đền thánh Đức Mẹ Pompei và
tổng giáo phận Napoli, nam Italia.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Chặng dừng đầu tiên là Pompei, Đền thánh Đức Mẹ quan
trọng nhất ở miền nam Italia và cũng là một giám hạt do Đức Tổng Giám Mục
Tommaso Caputo coi sóc, với 25 ngàn tín hữu Công Giáo, thuộc 5 giáo xứ, do
44 linh mục giáo phận và 6 linh mục dòng săn sóc và 112 nữ tu. Tiếp đến là
Napoli một tổng giáo phận có gần 1 triệu 760 ngàn tín hữu Công Giáo, 287
giáo xứ với hơn 1,500 linh mục.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Cuộc viếng thăm thu hút sự chú ý nhiều của dư luận, trong
số 1 ngàn ký giả đăng ký để theo dõi và tường thuật có 250 ký giả nước ngoài,
đặc biệt là từ Á Căn Đình và nhiều nước Âu Châu. Theo ban tổ chức hằng triệu
người tham dự các sinh hoạt trong ngày viếng thăm của Đức Thánh Cha. Cả 68
nữ tu dòng kín cũng được phép ra khỏi đan viện để tham dự thánh lễ và các
cuộc gặp gỡ với ngài.</font></p>

thăng từ Roma, Đức Thánh Cha kính viếng và cầu nguyện trước ảnh Đức Mẹ đang
trao chuỗi Mân Côi cho thánh Đa Minh và thánh nữ Catarina. Đây là ảnh Đức Mẹ
làm phép lạ do cha giải tội Alberto Radente tặng cho chân phước Bartolo
Longo vào năm 1875.</font></p>

ngắn trước ảnh Đức Mẹ Mân Côi do chính chân phước Bartolo Longo soạn, xin Mẹ
cứu giúp các tín hữu đang sống trong lầm than, đang trải qua bao nhiêu con
đường oán thù và máu đổ, bao nhiêu tình trạng nghèo cũ và mới, nhất là tội
lỗi.</font></p>

người nghèo, cùng với các tín hữu khác, Đức Thánh Cha đã đáp trực thăng đến
sân thể thao Scampía vào lúc quá 9 giờ và được Đức Hồng Y Crescenzio Sepe,
Tổng Giám Mục Napoli cùng với các giới chức chính quyền địa phương tiếp đón,
và ngài gặp gỡ dân chúng tại Quảng trường thánh Gioan Phaolô 2 vẫn thuộc khu
vực Scampía. Chính tại nơi đây 25 năm về trước, Đức Thánh Giáo Hoàng cũng đã
đến viếng thăm.</font></p>

dân cư và là nơi có tỷ lệ thất nghiệp cao nhất Italia: từ 50 tới 75% dân
chúng ở tuổi làm việc, với bao nhiêu tệ nạn xã hội từ đó mà ra, nhất là tệ
nạn tổ chức bất lương Camora.</font></p>

chính quyền địa phương, đại diện những người di dân, tụ tập tại Quảng
trường, Đức Thánh Cha nhắc đến những vấn đề khó khăn của người dân, nhưng
cũng nhấn mạnh đến niềm hy vọng. Ngài nói:</font></p>

<font face="Arial">“Hành trình thường nhật tại thành phố này, với những khó
khăn và cơ cực và nhiều khi bị thử thách cam go, tạo nên một nền văn hóa sự
sống luôn giúp đỡ trỗi dậy sau mỗi sa ngã và làm sao để sự ác không bao giờ
có tiếng nói cuối cùng. Đó chính là hy vọng, anh chị em biết rõ niềm hy vọng
này là gia sản quí giá, là ”đòn bẩy của tâm hồn”, nhưng nhiều khi nó cũng
phải chịu những cuộc tấn công và cướp bóc. Thực vậy ai tự ý đi theo con
đường sự ác, thì cũng là người cướp mất một mảnh hy vọng của mình và của mọi
người, của bao nhiêu người lương thiện và cần cù, của danh thơm tiếng tốt và
nền kinh tế của thành phố này”.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Đức Thánh Cha cũng nhắc đến tình trạng bao nhiêu người
trẻ ở đây thiếu công ăn việc làm, “đó là một tiếng kêu mạnh mẽ. Vì thất
nghiệp họ bị thiếu mất phẩm giá và có nguy cơ phải chịu mọi thứ bóc lột”.
Ngài tố giác toan tính muốn biến khu Scampía này thành vùng đất “không thuộc
một ai”, trong đó mọi giá trị bị gạt bỏ, một vùng đất ở trong tay của cái
gọi là “tiểu tội phạm”. Đức Thánh Cha mạnh mẽ tố giác nạn bóc lột sức lao
động như nô lệ, nạn “làm đen” làm lậu và nạn tham nhũng tại đây. Tất cả
những hành động đó hoàn toàn trái ngược với Kitô giáo. Tín hữu Kitô tham
nhũng là người ung thối!</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Ngài không quên nhắc nhở giới chính trị hãy dấn thân phục
vụ và nói rằng “chính trị tốt là một việc phục vụ con người, chính trị được
thi hành trước tiên nơi bình diện địa phương, nơi là gánh nặng của những gì
không được hoàn tất, những chậm trễ và thiếu sót đè nặng trực tiếp trên dân
chúng và gây đau khổ nhiều nhất. Chính trị tốt là một trong những biểu hiện
cao quí nhất của đức bác ái, của việc phục vụ và tình thương”.</font></td>
