tháng Hai năm 2013, Đức Giáo Hoàng Bênêđíctô thứ 16 đã công bố quyết định
thoái vị. Hai năm sau, thư ký riêng của ngài cho biết Đức Giáo Hoàng danh dự
Bênêđíctô thứ 16 vẫn còn minh mẫn và không hề hối tiếc về quyết định của
mình.</font></p>
<p style="margin-top: 0cm; margin-bottom: 8pt"><font face="Arial">Đức Tổng
giám mục Georg Gänswein nói với nhật báo Corriere della Sera, tức là Tin
Chiều, tại Rôma rằng Đức Giáo Hoàng danh dự Bênêđíctô thứ 16 "đã chọn một
cuộc sống ẩn tu" và chỉ xuất hiện trước công chúng khi ngài được Đức Giáo
Hoàng Phanxicô mời.</font></p>
<p style="margin-top: 0cm; margin-bottom: 8pt"><font face="Arial">Ngoài thói
quen cầu nguyện, đọc sách và trả lời thư từ, Đức Bênêđíctô thứ 16 đã chơi
đàn piano thường xuyên hơn. Đức Tổng Giám Mục nói: "Đặc biệt là nhạc Mozart,
và cả những tác phẩm khác đến với tâm trí ngài. Ngài đánh đàn chủ yếu từ ký
ức mình. "</font></p>
<p style="margin-top: 0cm; margin-bottom: 8pt"><font face="Arial">Đức Tổng
Giám mục Gänswein bác bỏ tin đồn rằng Đức Giáo Hoàng Bênêđíctô thứ 16 đã bị
áp lực phải từ chức. Những tin đồn như thế dựa trên giả thuyết thuần túy,
không có sự kiện hỗ trợ. Trong thực tế, Đức Bênêđíctô thứ 16 đã rất "thanh
thản" khi quyết định về hưu; ngài xác tín rằng mình đã lựa chọn đúng, và tin
rằng Giáo Hội cần một nhà lãnh đạo mạnh mẽ hơn.</font></p>
<p style="margin-top: 0cm; margin-bottom: 8pt"><font face="Arial">Đức Giáo
Hoàng danh dự Bênêđíctô thứ 16, năm nay là 87 tuổi, vẫn còn trong tình trạng
sức khoẻ khá tốt. Đôi khi ngài gặp khó khăn khi đi đứng vì một số vấn đề với
đôi chân của mình, nhưng ngoài ra ngài có không có vấn đề sức khỏe nghiêm
trọng nào.</font></td>
