4 tháng 2, đại sứ quán Hung Gia Lợi cạnh Vatican đã tổ chức một cuộc gặp gỡ
nhằm vinh danh Đức Tổng Giám Mục Angelo Rotta và Đức Ông Gennaro Verolino,
là những người đã cứu hàng chục ngàn người Do Thái trong Thế chiến thứ Hai.</font></p>
<p style="margin-top: 0cm; margin-bottom: 8pt"><font face="Arial">Đức Tổng
Giám mục Rotta là sứ thần Tòa Thánh tại Hung Gia Lợi vào thời điểm đó, trong
khi Đức ÔngVerolino là trợ lý của ngài. Đức Ông Verolino sau này đã trở
thành một vị Tổng Giám Mục và là một sứ thần Tòa Thánh.</font></p>
<p style="margin-top: 0cm; margin-bottom: 8pt"><font face="Arial">Phát biểu
trong cuộc gặp gỡ Đức Hồng Y Angelo Sodano, niên trưởng Hồng Y Đoàn nói:</font></p>
<p style="margin-top: 0cm; margin-bottom: 8pt"><font face="Arial">"Công việc
của hai vị tuyệt vời này đã được ghi nhận bởi một số nhà sử học. Họ đã đưa
ra thực hành những lời kêu gọi được lặp đi lặp lại của Đức Giáo Hoàng Piô
XII”.</font></p>
<p style="margin-top: 0cm; margin-bottom: 8pt"><font face="Arial">Một nhà
viết sử người Hung Gia Lợi, ông Jeno Levai, trưng ra những sử liệu lấy từ
văn khố Tòa Thánh và các quốc gia để chứng minh rằng Đức Sứ Thần Tòa Thánh
tại Hung và các Đức Giám Mục "đã can thiệp đi can thiệp lại theo những chỉ
thị của Đức Piô XII" và nhờ những nỗ lực này "trong mùa thu và mùa đông
1944, không có một nhà thờ Công Giáo nào tại Budapest lại không mở rộng vòng
tay chứa chấp những người Do Thái đang trốn chạy".</font></td>
