Đức Thánh Cha đã công bố trong buổi đọc kinh Truyền Tin trưa Chúa Nhật 4
tháng Giêng vừa qua là ngài sẽ vinh thăng Hồng Y cho 20 vị trong đó có Đức
Tổng Giám Mục Phêrô Nguyễn Văn Nhơn của tổng giáo phận Hà Nội.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Thánh Giáo Hoàng Gioan Phaolô II đã quy định số Hồng Y có
quyền bầu Giáo Hoàng là 120 vị, như thế hiện nay "trống" 12 vị trong Hồng Y
đoàn. Đức Giáo Hoàng đã vinh thăng hơi vượt quá con số này, nhưng vẫn rất
gần, như vậy quy định trên vẫn có thể coi là được tôn trọng.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Các tiêu chí rõ ràng nhất trong việc chọn các Hồng Y lần
này là tính phổ quát của Giáo Hội Hoàn Vũ. Mười bốn quốc gia khác nhau được
đại diện, trong đó có một số nước hiện nay không có vị Hồng Y nào và cả một
số nước chưa từng bao giờ có một Hồng Y. Nếu tính luôn cả 5 vị Tổng Giám Mục
và Giám Mục về hưu được vinh thăng lần này thì có đến mười tám nước có tân
Hồng Y. Không có vị tân Hồng Y nào từ Hoa Kỳ hay Canada, vì các quốc gia này
đã có một số lượng đáng kể, và con số này vẫn giữ ổn định trong suốt năm
qua. Riêng Mễ Tây Cơ thì có một tân Hồng Y.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Đáng chú ý là có những quốc gia chưa bao giờ có Hồng Y,
đó là Capo Verde, Tonga, và Miến Điện. Những nước này có các cộng đoàn Giáo
Hội nhỏ bé. Đức Giám Mục của Tonga là Chủ tịch Hội đồng Giám mục Thái Bình
Dương; Giáo phận Santiago de Cabo Verde là một trong những giáo phận Phi
Châu cổ xưa nhất; Giáo Phận Morelos ở Mễ Tây Cơ là một khu vực đang gặp rắc
rối vì bạo lực.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Cũng đáng chú ý là chỉ có một tân Hồng Y từ Giáo Triều
Rôma. Hiện nay, số các Hồng Y phục vụ tại giáo triều Rôma vẫn còn khoảng một
phần tư số các Hồng Y cử tri. Rõ ràng là Đức Giáo Hoàng có ý định tấn phong
Hồng Y cho những vị tổng trưởng các bộ và một số tổ chức quan trọng khác
trong giáo triều - như, trong trường hợp này, là Tòa Ân Giải Tối Cao.</font></p>

thái cũng như toàn nhân loại, được đại diện bởi ba Đạo Sĩ Phương Đông. Họ
đại diện cho tất cả những người kiếm tìm Thiên Chúa. Chúng ta cũng được mời
gọi để cho Chúa Thánh Thần thúc đẩy, hướng dẫn nhận ra ánh sáng soi đường để
tìm đến với Chúa Cứu Thế qua dấu chỉ khiêm tốn của một trẻ thơ. Ba Đạo Sĩ
đại diện cho tất cả những người kiếm tìm Thiên Chúa trong các tôn giáo và
trong các triết lý của toàn thế giới, một cuộc kiếm tìm vô tận. Họ làm thành
đoàn ngũ những người kiếm tìm Thiên Chúa thuộc mọi thời đại, kiếm tìm ánh
sáng thật để đến với Chúa. Trên con đường tìm kiếm ấy ba nhà Đạo Sĩ đã gặp
nhiều khó khăn, cám dỗ, tăm tối và thất vọng.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Tuy nhiên, nhờ Thánh Thần gợi ý qua các lời tiên tri
trong Thánh Kinh, họ biết Đấng Cứu Thế sinh ra tại Bếtlehem, trong thành
Đavít. Và họ đã lại ra đi, trông thấy ánh sao và rất đỗi vui mừng. Họ tìm
thấy Con Trẻ và Maria, Mẹ Người, rồi qùy thờ lậy Chúa và dâng các lễ vật
biểu tượng. Ơn của Chúa Thánh Thần đã giúp họ và hướng dẫn họ nhận ra rằng
các tiêu chuẩn của Thiên Chúa rất khác các tiêu chuẩn của loài người; rằng
Thiên Chúa không tự biểu lộ ra trong quyền năng của thế giới này, nhưng
hướng tới chúng ta trong sự khiêm hạ tình yêu của Người. Như thế các nhà Đạo
Sĩ là gương mẫu sự trở về với niềm tin đích thực, bởi vì họ đã tin nơi lòng
lành của Thiên Chúa hơn là nơi ánh quang bề ngoài của quyền lực. Hang đá chỉ
cho chúng ta một con đường khác với con đường mà tâm thức trần gian thèm
muốn: đó là con đường hạ mình của Thiên Chúa, trong đó vinh quang của Người
được dấu ẩn trong máng cỏ Bếtlehem, trong thập giá trên đồi Calvario, nơi
các anh chị em đau khổ. Xin Chúa cho chúng ta cũng biết bước vào trong mầu
nhiệm này như ba Đạo Sĩ, xin Ngài bảo vệ và giải thoát chúng ta khỏi các cám
dỗ che dấu các ánh sao giúp chúng ta tiến đến gặp Chúa Giêsu. Xin Chúa giải
thoát chúng ta khỏi các ảo tưởng, các tự phụ, các thứ “ánh sáng” giả tạo của
