Reytel Andrianik cho biết hầu hết các Giám Mục Ba Lan thời Thế Chiến Thứ Hai
đã liều mạng cứu người Do Thái.</font><p><font face="Arial">Vào thời điểm
Đức Quốc Xã xâm lược Ba Lan vào năm 1939, Giáo Hội tại nước này có 21 giáo
phận trong đó có 8 giáo phận trống tòa vì các Giám Mục bị giết, trốn thoát
hay bị trục xuất.</font></p>
<p><font face="Arial">Một trong những vị trốn ra nước ngoài là Đức Cha Karol
Radoński, người đã tố cáo trên đài truyền thanh Luân Đôn hôm 14 tháng 12 năm
1942 về thảm hoạ Holocaust tức là chính sách diệt chủng người Do Thái tập
thể: bắn chết, cho vào phòng hơi ngạt, bỏ đói …</font></p>
<p><font face="Arial">Trong 13 giáo phận có các Giám Mục coi sóc, các nghiên
cứu đã chứng minh được tại 11 giáo phận các Giám Mục đã âm thầm giúp người
Do Thái bằng cách che dấu trong các chủng viện, dòng tu, cấp giấy chứng nhận
rửa tội giả để phù hợp với căn cước giả…Hai giáo phận còn lại vẫn còn đang
được nghiên cứu.</font></p>
<p><font face="Arial">Việc nghiên cứu các chứng tá anh hùng của các Giám Mục
Ba Lan gặp nhiều trở ngại vì theo luật của Đức Quốc Xã những ai che dấu
người Do Thái thì bị tàn sát cả gia đình nên các Giám Mục thường hết sức cẩn
thận và kín đáo để bảo vệ các dòng tu, chủng viện và các giáo xứ khỏi bị tàn
sát tập thể.</font></p>
<p><font face="Arial">Hôm 21 tháng Giêng, viện Yad Vashem, là nơi tưởng niệm
các nạn nhân Holocaust cũng đưa ra những tài liệu cho thấy một linh mục vào
thời đó đã hô hào giáo dân giúp che dấu người Do Thái và chính ngài cũng
liều mình đích thân giúp người Do Thái trốn sự lùng bắt của Đức Quốc Xã. Vị
linh mục ấy là cha Stefan Wyszynski, sau này là Hồng Y Giáo Chủ Ba Lan.</font></td>
