<font face="Arial">Trong những ngày này, phụng vụ của Hội Thánh đã đặt trước
mắt chúng ta biểu tượng về Đức Trinh Nữ Maria, Mẹ Thiên Chúa. Ngày đầu tiên
của năm là ngày Lễ Mẹ Thiên Chúa, tiếp theo là Lễ Hiển Linh, nhắc lại chuyến
thămviếng của của các Đạo Sĩ. Thánh sử Matthêu viết: "khi vào nhà họ thấy
Hài Nhi cùng Bà Maria, Mẹ Người, họ sấp mình và thờ lạy Người" (Mt 2:11). Và
chính Mẹ, sau khi đã hạ sinh Người, đã trình bày Chúa Con cho thế giới. Mẹ
mang đến cho chúng ta Chúa Giêsu, Mẹ chỉ cho chúng ta thấy Chúa Giêsu, Mẹ
làm cho chúng ta thấy Chúa Giêsu.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Chúng ta tiếp tục với bài giáo lý về gia đình và mgười mẹ
của gia đình. Mỗi con người đều nhờ người mẹ mà có sự sống của mình, và hầu
như luôn luôn mang nợ mẹ trong hầu hết cuộc đời còn lại của mình, việc đào
luyện nhân bản và tâm linh. Tuy nhiên, người mẹ dù được đề cao theo nhãn
quan biểu tượng, - bằng nhiều bài thơ, nhiều điều đẹp đẽ được nói về người
mẹ - nhưng người mẹ ít được lắng nghe và được giúp đỡ trong cuộc sống hàng
ngày, ít được coi trọng trong vai trò trung tâm của bà trong xã hội. Thật
vậy, người ta thường lạm dụng việc sẵn lòng hy sinh bản thân của người mẹ
cho con cái để "tiết kiệm" chi phí xã hội.</font></p>

<font face="Arial">Cũng xảy ra ngay cả trong các cộng đồng Kitô hữu việc
người mẹ không luôn luôn được tôn trọng cách chính đáng, và ít khi được lắng
nghe. Tuy thế, ở trung tâm của đời sống Hội Thánh là Mẹ Chúa Giêsu. Có lẽ

lan tràn của chủ nghĩa cá nhân ích kỷ. "Cá nhân" có nghĩa là “không thể
phân chia." Các bà mẹ, trái lại, "tự chia chính mình", từ khi các bà đón
nhận một đứa con để ban tặng nó cho thế giới và làm cho nó lớn lên. Chính
họ, những người mẹ, ghét chiến tranh nhiều hơn vì nó giết chết con mình. Vì

một đứa trẻ học được, đã ghi khắc giá trị của đức tin trong đời sống của một
con người. Đó là một sứ điệp mà các bà mẹ có đức tin có thể truyền lại mà
không cần nhiều lời giải thích: những lời giải thích đó sẽ đến sau, nhưng
hạt giống đức tin nằm trong những những giây phút quý giá đầu tiên ấy. Nếu
không có các bà mẹ, thì không những sẽ không có các tín hữu mới, mà đức tin
sẽ bị mất đi nhiều sức nóng đơn sơ và sâu xa của nó. Và Hội Thánh là một
người mẹ, là mẹ của chúng ta với tất cả những điều ấy! Chúng ta không phải
là những đứa con mồ côi, chúng ta có một người mẹ! Đức Mẹ, Mẹ của Hội
Thánh, và Mẹ của chúng ta. Chúng ta không phải là những đứa con mồ côi,
chúng ta là con cái của Hội Thánh, chúng ta đều là con của Đức Trinh Nữ
Maria, và chúng ta là con của các bà mẹ của chúng ta.</font></p>
