<font face="Arial">Hôm thứ sáu 17-12 vừa qua, Đức Thánh Cha Bênêđictô
XVI đã tiếp ông Francesco Mario Greco, đại sứ Italia tại Tòa Thánh, đến
trình ủy nhiệm thư. Đây cũng là dịp Italia tái khẳng định những mối quan
hệ lịch sử và văn hóa giữa Italia và
<st1:country-region w:st="on">
<st1:place w:st="on">Vatican</st1:place></st1:country-region>. </font>
</p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin-left: 0; margin-right: 0; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Trong bài phát biểu, ĐTC nói ngài luôn cầu nguyện cho
mọi chặng đường vui buồn của Italia, cũng như cho sự hòa hợp và thịnh
vượng của quốc gia bán đảo đang trong thời điểm trải qua cuộc khủng
hoảng chính trị nghiêm trọng này. ĐTC cũng chào mừng cuộc kỷ niệm 150
năm nền thống nhất đất nước Italia (1861) vừa mới bắt đầu, sự kiện tiêu
biểu “trong giai đoạn lịch sử đương thời, của quốc gia và quốc tế”, được
coi là khó khăn. </font></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin-left: 0; margin-right: 0; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Nhắc lại lịch sử, ĐTC ca ngợi Italia trong suốt tiến
trình hình thành Nhà nước, quốc gia này “đã tìm kiếm sự phân định đúng
đắn và sự hợp tác tốt đẹp giữa các cộng đồng dân sự và tôn giáo”. </font>
</p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin-left: 0; margin-right: 0; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">ĐTC nêu rõ: “Italia có một lịch sử và nền văn hóa
mang đậm dấu ấn Kitô giáo, và khi những đặc trưng này trong quá khứ bị
khước từ, bỏ quên hoặc bị gạt sang bên lề, thì liền phải chứng kiến sự
mất cân bằng nghiêm trọng và những rạn nứt đau đớn trong đời sống xã hội
của đất nước”. </font></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin-left: 0; margin-right: 0; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Sau đó ĐTC nhấn mạnh tầm quan trọng của Hiệp ước
Latêranô và Thỏa ước Villa Madama “đã thiết lập sự quân bình đúng đắn
trong quan hệ giữa Tòa Thánh, trong tư cách của một quốc gia, và Giáo
Hội tại Italia. Những hiệp ước này không nói lên Giáo Hội hoặc Tòa Thánh
có ý chiếm lấy quyền lực, đặc quyền hoặc lợi ích xã hội-kinh tế, cũng
không muốn rời khỏi sứ vụ đặc biệt mà Thiên Chúa, Đấng thiết lập Hội
Thánh, trao cho. Trái lại, những hiệp ước này đặt cơ sở nơi ý nguyện
đúng đắn của Nhà nước nhằm bảo đảm cho công dân và Giáo Hội thực hiện
được trọn vẹn quyền tự do tôn giáo, một quyền có chiều kích không chỉ
của cá nhân, mà còn mở rộng đến gia đình, các tôn giáo và Giáo Hội. Nhà
nước được kêu gọi bảo đảm cho các tín đồ được quyền tự do lương tâm và
tự do tôn giáo… </font></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin-left: 0; margin-right: 0; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Việc thực hiện đúng quyền tự do này cho phép xã hội
tiếp nhận được những nguồn lực đạo đức và hoạt động quảng đại của các
tín hữu. Vì vậy sẽ không thể hình dung được, muốn xã hội thực sự tiến
bộ mà lại loại trừ nhân tố tôn giáo, như ngày nay, tại nhiều nơi, với
nhiều cách thức khác nhau, hiện đang có xu hướng như vậy. Một trong
những cách thức đó, có thể nêu ví dụ, là cố gắng loại bỏ việc trưng bày
tại những nơi công cộng các biểu tượng tôn giáo, trước tiên là Thánh
giá, biểu tượng tiêu biểu nhất của niềm tin Kitô giáo, đồng thời cũng
nói với mọi người thiện chí, trong chừng mực nhất định, đó không phải
là tác nhân gây ra sự phân biệt đối xử”. </font></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin-left: 0; margin-right: 0; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Về vấn đề này, ĐTC cảm ơn Chính phủ Italia “Đã hành
động phù hợp với quan điểm thế tục đúng đắn và dưới ánh sáng của lịch
sử, văn hóa và truyền thống của mình, trong khi đó, một số xã hội cố gạt
chiều kích tôn giáo sang một bên. Các thông tin gần đây cho thấy, hiện
đang diễn ra những vi phạm quyền tự do tôn giáo. Đứng trước thực tế đáng
buồn này, xã hội và chính quyền Italia đã cho thấy sự quan tâm đặc biệt
đối với số phận của những người Kitô giáo thuộc thành phần thiểu số, vì
giữ đức tin của mình mà phải hứng chịu bạo lực, bị phân biệt đối xử,
buộc phải di cư”. </font></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin-left: 0; margin-right: 0; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<font face="Arial">Kết thúc bài phát biểu, ĐTC nói: “Tôi mong rằng mọi
nơi cũng sẽ nhận thức được vấn đề này, nhờ đó cũng sẽ tăng cường các
nỗ lực, để mọi nơi và mọi người đều được thấy quyền tự do tôn giáo được
tôn trọng đầy đủ. Tôi khẳng định Tòa Thánh đang dấn thân trong lĩnh vực
này với sự hỗ trợ của Italia trên tầm quốc tế”. </font></p>

<font face="Arial">Cũng nên nhắc lại, vào tháng Mười 2010, chính
phủ Italia, với sự ủng hộ của hàng chục nước châu Âu, đã đưa ra lời kêu
gọi Tòa án nhân quyền châu Âu rút lại phán quyết yêu cầu gỡ bỏ các tượng
Thánh giá khỏi các lớp học công lập tại châu Âu. </font>
