<span style="font-size: 12.0pt">Ngay từ thế kỷ 13, Vua Castille,Alfonso
X Khôn Ngoan đã so sánh vẻ đẹp của Mẹ Maria với tháng Năm trong một bản
nhạc của nhà vua. Trong thế kỷ tiếp đó,Chân phước Dòng Đa-minh Henry
Suso suốt thời kỳ mùa hoa nở,đã đan những vương miện để dâng lên Thánh
Nữ Đồng Trinh vào ngày đầu tháng Năm.</span></p>

<span style="font-size: 12.0pt">Năm 1549,một tu sĩ Dòng
Biển-Đức,Seidl,đã xuất bản một cuốn sách có tựa đề “Tháng Năm Thiêng
Liêng”, trong khi Thánh Philip Neri thúc giục thanh niên bày tỏ lòng tôn
sùng Đức Trinh Nữ Maria trong suốt tháng Năm,khi Ngài quy tụ trẻ em
quanh bàn thờ Đức Trinh Nữ Maria để dâng lên Mẹ những đoá hoa mùa xuân.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; line-height: normal; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt">Một ít năm sau đó, các tu sĩ Dòng Tên
khuyên các gia đình vào chiều trước ngày Đầu tháng Năm,hãy làm một bàn
thờ cho Mẹ Maria trong nhà mình và trang trí bằng hoa và nến. Ý tưởng
nầy là mỗi ngày trong tháng Năm, gia đình quy tụ nhau để đọc một số lời
cầu nguyện tôn vinh Đức Nữ Đồng Trinh và rút thăm ghi vào một mẫu giấy
nhân đức phải thực hành ngày kế tiếp. Lòng tôn sùng Mẹ Maria nầy được
duy trì trên khắp thế giới cho đến ngày nay. </span></p>
