Trong những ngày ấy, Thiên Chúa dẫn Abram ra ngoài và nói với ông:
"Ngươi hãy ngước mắt lên trời, và nếu có thể được, hãy đếm các ngôi
sao". Rồi Chúa nói tiếp: "Miêu duệ của ngươi sẽ đông đảo như thế". Abram
tin vào Thiên Chúa, và vì đó ông được công chính.</p>

dân Calđê, để ban cho ngươi xứ này làm gia nghiệp". Abram thưa rằng:
"Lạy Chúa là Thiên Chúa, làm sao con có thể biết con sẽ được xứ đó làm
gia nghiệp?" Chúa đáp: "Ngươi hãy bắt một con bò cái ba tuổi, một con dê
cái ba tuổi, một con cừu đực ba tuổi, một con chim gáy mái và một con bồ
câu non". Abram bắt tất cả những con vật ấy, chặt ra làm đôi, đặt phân
nửa này đối diện với phân nửa kia; nhưng ông không chặt đôi các con
chim. Các mãnh cầm lao xuống trên những con vật vừa bị giết, song ông
Abram đuổi chúng đi. Lúc mặt trời lặn, Abram ngủ mê; một cơn sợ hãi
khủng khiếp và u tối bao trùm lấy ông.</p>

Khi mặt trời đã lặn rồi, bóng tối mịt mù phủ xuống, có một chiếc lò bốc
khói và một khối lửa băng qua giữa những phần con vật bị chia đôi. Trong
ngày đó, Chúa đã thiết lập giao ước với Abram mà nói rằng: "Ta ban xứ
này cho miêu duệ ngươi, từ sông Ai-cập cho đến sông Eu-phrát".</p>

Khi ấy, Chúa Giêsu đưa Phêrô, Giacôbê và Gioan lên núi cầu nguyện. Và
đang khi cầu nguyện, diện mạo Người biến đổi khác thường và áo Người trở
nên trắng tinh sáng láng. Bỗng có hai vị đàm đạo với Người, đó là Môsê
và Êlia, hiện đến uy nghi, và nói về sự chết của Người sẽ thực hiện tại
Giêrusalem. Phêrô và hai bạn ông đang ngủ mê, chợt tỉnh dậy, thấy vinh
quang của Chúa và hai vị đang đứng với Người. Lúc hai vị từ biệt Chúa,
Phêrô thưa cùng Chúa Giêsu rằng: "Lạy Thầy, chúng con được ở đây thì tốt
lắm; chúng con xin làm ba lều, một cho Thầy, một cho Môsê, và một cho
Êlia". Khi nói thế, Phêrô không rõ mình nói gì. Lúc ông còn đang nói,
thì một đám mây bao phủ các Ngài và thấy các ngài biến vào trong đám
mây, các môn đệ đều kinh hoàng. Bấy giờ từ đám mây có tiếng phán rằng:
"Ðây là Con Ta yêu dấu, các ngươi hãy nghe lời Người". Và khi tiếng đang
phán ra, thì chỉ thấy còn mình Chúa Giêsu. Suốt thời gian đó, các môn đệ
giữ kín không nói với ai những điều mình đã chứng kiến.</p>

Sự kiện biến hình xảy ra khoảng một tuần sau khi Ðức Giêsu báo trước
cuộc thương khó và cái chết của Ngài, nhằm củng cố niềm tin nơi các môn
đệ để các ông có thể can đảm theo Chúa trên con đường khổ giá. Sự hiện
diện của hai nhân vật trong Cựu Ước: Môisê và Êlia để khẳng định việc
Ðức Giêsu chịu khổ nạn và đi vào vinh quang nằm trong chương trình cứu
độ của Thiên Chúa mà Thánh Kinh đã loan báo.</p>

<b>Trải nghiệm của thời đại</b></p>

Hiện tượng biến hình là một loại trải nghiệm mà mỗi người chúng ta đã
từng trải theo cách nào đó... Hôm nay, theo lời Tin mừng thuật lại, Chúa
Giêsu cùng đi với ba môn đệ. Một đám mây sà xuống trên họ và cùng với
Đức Giêsu, cả ba đều được Thiên Chúa mặc khải: ba người môn đệ được sinh
ra làm con Đức Chúa Cha. Họ cũng nhận ra, từ rất lâu trước họ, đã có
nhiều người sống trước thời Chúa Giêsu sinh ra, đã từng nếm trải kinh
nghiệm này như: ông Môsê, người lãnh đạo dân ítraen và ngôn sứ Êlia. Hai
vị này đang hiện diện và trò chuyện với Chúa Giêsu. Ta cần nói thêm
nhiều điều về hai người đã đi cùng Thiên Chúa. Mỗi vị đều từng trải một
kinh nghiệm biến hình. Ông Môsê mang khuôn mặt rạng ngời ánh sáng sau
mỗi lần gặp gỡ Thiên Chúa. Ông Êlia được cất lên trời trên một cỗ xe lửa
sau khi đã hoàn thành sứ vụ của mình. Đúng thế, từ muôn thuở, sự sống
của Chúa Cha ban cho con người rất dồi dào, và với những ai sẵn sàng đón
nhận thì sự sống đó còn được ban cho dồi dào hơn là những gì con người
có thể cho nhau. Thân xác của Chúa Giêsu minh chứng cho cuộc sống tràn
đầy ánh sáng đó. Điều này cũng minh chứng rằng sự sống đó sẽ biến chúng
ta thành người cùng thời. Chúng ta sẽ được đi vào mối tương giao mật
thiết với Đức Giêsu và các môn đệ của Người, với ông Môsê và ông Êlia.
Được lãnh nhận sự sống của Chúa Cha trong thân xác mỏng dòn và đầy bất
trắc này của chúng ta chẳng phải là một điều kỳ diệu xảy ra trong truyện
cổ tích. Điều này mang tính thời đại.</p>
