Chъa Giкsu đг “đг trъt bỏ chнnh mмnh, mặc lấy thвn phận của
một tфi tớ’ (Phil 2:7). Chъng ta hгy để cho những lời nаy của Tфng
Đồ Phaolф dẫn chъng ta vаo những ngаy thбnh nаy, khi lời của Thiкn
Chъa, như một điệp khъc, giới thiệu Chъa Giкsu như người tфi
tớ: trong Thứ Năm Tuần Thбnh, Người đг đуng vai của người đầy tớ rửa
chвn cho cбc mфn đệ của mмnh, Thứ Sбu Chịu Nạn, Người đг được giới
thiệu như một người tфi tớ đau khổ vа chiến thắng (cf. Is52:13); vа
ngаy mai chъng ta sẽ nghe lời tiкn tri của Isaiah về Người: “Nаy đвy
tфi tớ của ta, kẻ ta nвng đỡ” (Is 42:1). Thiкn Chъa đг cứu chuộc
chъng ta bằng cбch phục vụ chъng ta. Chъng ta thường nghĩ mмnh lа
những kẻ phục vụ Thiкn Chъa. Khфng phải vậy. Người lа Đấng hoаn toаn
tự do chọn lựa để phục vụ chъng ta, vм Người yкu thương chъng ta

khăn hơn để phục vụ nếu chъng ta khфng để mмnh được phục vụ bởi

Điều nаy khiến chъng ta ngạc nhiкn: Thiкn Chъa đг cứu chuộc chъng ta
bằng cбch mang lấy trong mмnh tất cả hмnh phạt vм tội lỗi chъng ta.
Khфng một lời ca thбn, nhưng với lтng khiкm nhường, nhẫn nại vа vвng
phục của một người tфi tớ, vа bằng một tмnh yкu thuần khiết. Vа Chъa
Cha đг hỗ trợ Chъa Giкsu trong việc phục vụ của Người. Chъa Cha đг
khфng lấy đi sự dữ đг nghiền nбt Người, nhưng lа tăng thкm sức mạnh
trong sự đau khổ của Người, để nhờ đу sự dữ của chъng ta được chiến
thắng bằng điều thiện, bằng một tмnh yкu, yкu cho đến tận cщng. </span></p>

dвn chъng, những kẻ đг tung hф Người, nhưng rồi lại hф to: “Đуng
đinh nу đi!” (Mt 27:22). Người bị phản bội bởi tổ chức tфn giбo đг
kết бn Người một cбch bất cфng, vа bởi tập quбn chнnh trị cho phйp
rửa tay về Người. Chъng ta cу thể nghĩ đến tất cả những hнnh thức
phản bội lớn cũng như bй mа chъng ta đг gбnh chịu trong cuộc sống.
Thật lа ghк gớm để khбm phб ra rằng khi sự tin tưởng được xбc định
chắc chắn đг bị phản bội. Từ tận cщng trбi tim chъng ta, một sự bất
mгn đг nổi lкn mа nу cу thể khiến đời sống nаy xem như vф nghĩa.
Điều nаy xảy ra bởi vм chъng ta đг được sinh ra để được yкu vа để
yкu, vа điều đau khổ nhất lа bị phản bội bởi những người đг hứa
trung thаnh nhưng rồi bỏ rơi chъng ta. Chъng ta ngay cả cũng khфng

Chъng ta hгy nhмn sвu vаo nội tвm. Nếu chъng ta thаnh thật với chнnh
mмnh, chъng ta sẽ nhмn thấy những điều bất tнn của chъng ta. Biết
bao điều sa ngг, giả hмnh vа trбo trở! Biết bao chủ э tốt bị phản
bội! Biết bao lần thất hứa! Biết bao điều quyết tвm đг bị bỏ giở!
Chъa biết tвm hồn chъng ta hơn chъng ta biết nу. Ngаi biết chъng ta
yếu đuối vа bất nhất như thế nаo. Bao nhiкu lần chъng ta sa ngг, vа
vất vả như thế nаo để chъng ta đứng dậy, cũng như khу khăn ra sao để
chữa lаnh những vết thương ấy. Vа những gм Ngаi đг thực hiện để đến
gần giъp đỡ vа phục vụ chъng ta? Ngаi đг nуi với chъng ta qua lời
Tiкn Tri: “Ta sẽ chữa lаnh sự bất trung của chъng. Ta sẽ yкu thương
chъng một cбch say đắm” (Hos 14:5). Ngаi chữa lаnh chъng ta bằng
cбch mang lấy vаo Ngаi sự bất trung của chъng ta vа mang lấy từ
chъng ta sự bội phản của chъng ta. Thay vм bị mất can đảm do sợ hгi
về sự sa ngг, chъng ta giờ đвy cу thể nhмn lкn thập giб, cảm nhận
vтng tay вu yếm của Ngаi, vа thưa: “Đвy lа sự bất tнn của con, xin
hгy nhận lấy hỡi Chъa Giкsu. Xin hгy mở đфi tay của Ngаi cho con,
Chъa phục vụ con bằng tмnh yкu của mмnh, Chъa tiếp tục nвng đỡ con.
Vа vм thế con sẽ lao vаo vтng tay ấy”. </span></p>

Bị bỏ rơi. Trong Tin Mừng hфm nay, Chъa Giкsu một cвu từ trкn Thбnh
Giб, một cвu duy nhất: “Lạy Cha, lạy Cha, sao Cha bỏ con?”
(Mt 27:46). Đвy lа những lời mạnh mẽ. Chъa Giкsu đг bị bị đau khổ về
sự bỏ rơi của chнnh mмnh, Đấng đг bỏ chạy. Nhưng Chъa Cha vẫn ở lại
đối với Người. Giờ đвy, trong thẳm sвu của nỗi cф đơn, lần đầu tiкn,
Người đг gọi tкn Ngаi bằng một tкn gọi thфng thường “Thiкn Chъa”. Vа
“trong một giọng lớn lao”, Người hỏi một cвu hỏi “tại sao”, một chữ
“tại sao” cay đắng nhất: “Tại sao Ngаi cũng bỏ con nữa?”. Những lời
nаy thật ra lа những lời trong một Thбnh Vịnh (cf. 22.2); chъng kể
cho chъng ta nghe rằng Chъa Giкsu cũng mang kinh nghiệm của sự cф
đơn tuyệt vọng vаo lời cầu của mмnh. Nhưng việc ấy cтn lưu lại rằng
chнnh Người đг cảm nghiệm sự cф đơn ấy: Người đг trải nghiệm một sự
bỏ rơi kinh khủng nhất, điều mа Tin Mừng lаm chứng bằng cбch trнch
dẫn lời của chнnh Người. </span></p>

Tại sao những việc đу đг xảy ra? Một lần nữa, nу được thực hiện vм

đг trả qua kinh nghiệm hoаn toаn bị bỏ rơi trong trạng thбi mа Người
chưa hề kinh nghiệm trước đу, để trở nкn một với chъng ta trong mọi
hoаn cảnh. Người đг lаm vậy cho cha, cho anh chị em, vа cho mọi
người chъng ta. Người đг lаm thế để nуi với chъng ta: “Đừng sợ, cбc
con khфng lẻ loi. Cha đг trải nghiệm tất cả những nỗi cф đơn của
chъng con để gần gũi với chъng con hơn bao giờ hết”. Điều nаy lа tбc
động nối dаi tới những gм Chъa Giкsu đг phục vụ chъng ta; Người đг
xuống tận vực thẳm của những đắng cay nhất của chъng ta, đạt tới cao
điểm đớn đau trong phản bội vа bỏ rơi. Hфm nay, trong bi kịch
của cơn dịch tễ, trкn khuфn mặt của những trạng thбi an toаn thiếu
sуt mа giờ đвy đг bị vụn vỡ, trкn khuфn mặt của nhiều niềm hy vọng
đг bị bội phản, trong э nghĩa của bỏ rơi đang đи nặng trong trбi tim
chъng ta, Chъa Giкsu nуi với mỗi người chъng ta: “Can đảm lкn, hгy
mở rộng trбi tim của chъng con cho tмnh yкu Cha. Cбc con sẽ cảm thấy
sự an ủi của Thiкn Chъa, Đấng nвng đỡ cбc con.” </span></p>

Anh chị em thвn mến, chъng ta cу thể lаm gм để so sбnh với Thiкn
Chъa, Đấng đг phục vụ chъng ta đến bị phản bội vа bỏ rơi? Chъng ta
cу thể từ bỏ sự bội phản Đấng bởi Ngаi mа chъng ta được tạo dựng, vа
đừng bỏ rơi những gм chнnh đбng trong cuộc đời chъng ta. Chъng ta
được đặt vаo thế giới nаy để yкu mến Ngаi vа yкu thương anh chị ẹm
lбng giềng. Tất cả mọi cбi khбc sẽ qua đi, chỉ duy điều nаy lа tồn
tại. Cơn khủng hoảng mа chъng ta đang trải qua ở thời điểm nаy dạy
chъng ta hгy phải coi trọng những gм lа hệ trọng, vа khфng được coi
nhẹ điều nаy, để tбi khбm phб ra rằng đời sống sẽ vф giб trị nếu nу
khфng được dщng để phục vụ người khбc. Vм đời sống được định giб
bằng tмnh yкu. Vм thế, trong những ngаy thбnh nаy, trong nhа của
chъng ta, chъng ta hгy đứng trước Đấng Bị Đуng Đanh - nhмn lкn Đấng
Chị Đуng Đanh! - đo lường đầy đủ nhất về tмnh yкu của Thiкn Chъa đối
với chъng ta, vа trước Thiкn Chъa, Đấng đг phục vụ chъng ta đến hy
sinh mạng sống mмnh, vа - hướng tầm nhмn của chъng ta vаo Đấng Chịu
Đуng Đanh - chъng ta hгy xin cho được ơn sống để phục vụ. Ước gм
chъng ta vươn tới những người đang đau khổ, vа những ai đang cần sự
giъp đỡ. Ước gм chъng ta khфng quan tвm đến những gм mмnh mất mбt,
nhưng những gм tốt chъng ta cу thể lаm cho người khбc. </span></p>

Nаy đвy tфi tớ của ta, kẻ ta nвng đỡ. Chъa Cha, Đấng đг nвng đỡ Chъa
Giкsu trong cuộc Thương Khу của Người cũng nвng đỡ chъng ta trong
những nhiệt tвm để phục vụ. Yкu thương, cầu nguyện, tha thứ, săn sуc
người khбc, trong gia đмnh vа ngoаi xг hội: tất cả những việc nаy cу
thể chắc chắn lа khу khăn. Nу cу thể cảm thấy giống như con đường
thбnh giб (via crucis). Nhưng con đường phục vụ lа con đường chiến
thắng vа đem lại sự sống, nhờ đу mа chъng ta được cứu độ. Cha muốn
nуi điều nаy một cбch đặc biệt với giới trẻ, vаo Ngаy nаy nу được
dаnh riкng cho họ từ ba mươi lăm năm. Cбc con thвn mến, hгy nhмn vаo
những vị anh hщng thật sự, họ đг đến để chiếu sбng những ngаy nаy:
Họ khфng phải lа những người nổi tiếng, giầu cу vа thаnh đạt; nhưng
hơn thế, họ lа những người đг hy sinh chнnh bản thвn để phục vụ
những người khбc. Hгy cảm thấy như chнnh cбc con đг được mời gọi để
đặt đời sống cбc con trкn con đường phục vụ. Đừng sợ tận hiến đời
mмnh cho Thiкn Chъa vа cho tha nhвn; nу được đбp lại! Vм đời sống lа
một hồng вn chъng ta nhận chỉ khi chъng ta trao đi, vа trong niềm
vui sвu thẳm nhất đến từ việc nуi cу đối với tмnh yкu, mа khфng cу
những chữ “nếu”, “nhưng”. Để nуi cу một cбch thаnh thật với tмnh
yкu, mа khфng cу những chữ nếu vа chữ nhưng. Như Chъa Giкsu đг lаm
cho chъng ta. </span></p>

Jesus “emptied himself, taking the form of a servant” (Phil 2:7).
Let us allow these words of the Apostle Paul to lead us into these
holy days, when the word of God, like a refrain, presents Jesus
as servant: on Holy Thursday, he is portrayed as the servant who
washes the feet of his disciples; on Good Friday, he is presented as
the suffering and victorious servant (cf. Is 52:13); and tomorrow we
will hear the prophecy of Isaiah about him: “Behold my servant, whom
I uphold” (Is 42:1). God saved us by serving us. We often think we
are the ones who serve God. No, he is the one who freely chose to
serve us, for he loved us first. It is difficult to love and not be
loved in return. And it is even more difficult to serve if we do not
let ourselves be served by God.</span></p>

But – just one question – how did the Lord serve us? By giving his
life for us. We are dear to him; we cost him dearly. Saint Angela of
Foligno said she once heard Jesus say: “My love for you is no joke”.
His love for us led him to sacrifice himself and to take upon
himself our sins.</span></p>

This astonishes us: God saved us by taking upon himself all the
punishment of our sins. Without complaining, but with the humility,
patience and obedience of a servant, and purely out of love. And the
Father upheld Jesus in his service. He did not take away the evil
that crushed him, but rather strengthened him in his suffering so
that our evil could be overcome by good, by a love that loves to the
very end.</span></p>

The Lord served us to the point of experiencing the most painful
situations of those who love: betrayal and abandonment.</span></p>

Betrayal. Jesus suffered betrayal by the disciple who sold him and
by the disciple who denied him. He was betrayed by the people who
sang hosanna to him and then shouted: “Crucify him!” (Mt 27:22). He
was betrayed by the religious institution that unjustly condemned
him and by the political institution that washed its hands of him.
We can think of all the small or great betrayals that we have
suffered in life. It is terrible to discover that a firmly placed
trust has been betrayed. From deep within our heart a disappointment
surges up that can even make life seem meaningless. This happens
because we were born to be loved and to love, and the most painful
thing is to be betrayed by someone who promised to be loyal and
close to us. We cannot even imagine how painful it was for God
who is love.</span></p>

Let us look within. If we are honest with ourselves, we will see our
infidelities. How many falsehoods, hypocrisies and duplicities! How
many good intentions betrayed! How many broken promises! How many
resolutions left unfulfilled! The Lord knows our hearts better than
we do. He knows how weak and irresolute we are, how many times we
fall, how hard it is for us to get up and how difficult it is to
heal certain wounds. And what did he do in order to come to our aid
and serve us? He told us through the Prophet: “I will heal their
faithlessness; I will love them deeply” (Hos 14:5). He healed us by
taking upon himself our infidelity and by taking from us our
betrayals. Instead of being discouraged by the fear of failing, we
can now look upon the crucifix, feel his embrace, and say: “Behold,
there is my infidelity, you took it, Jesus, upon yourself. You open
your arms to me, you serve me with your love, you continue to
support me… And so I will keep pressing on”.</span></p>

Abandonment. In today’s Gospel, Jesus says one thing from the Cross,
one thing alone: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
(Mt 27:46). These are powerful words. Jesus had suffered the
abandonment of his own, who had fled. But the Father remained for
him. Now, in the abyss of solitude, for the first time he calls him
by the generic name “God”. And “in a loud voice” he asks the
question “why?”, the most excruciating “why?”: “Why did you too
abandon me?”. These words are in fact those of a Psalm (cf. 22:2);
they tell us that Jesus also brought the experience of extreme
desolation to his prayer. But the fact remains that he himself
experienced that desolation: he experienced the utmost abandonment,
which the Gospels testify to by quoting his very words.</span></p>

Why did all this take place? Once again, it was done for our sake,
to serve us. So that when we have our back to the wall, when we find
ourselves at a dead end, with no light and no way of escape, when it
seems that God himself is not responding, we should remember that we
are not alone. Jesus experienced total abandonment in a situation he
had never before experienced in order to be one with us in
everything. He did it for me, for you, for all of us; he did it to
say to us: “Do not be afraid, you are not alone. I experienced all
your desolation in order to be ever close to you”. That is the
extent to which Jesus served us: he descended into the abyss of our
most bitter sufferings, culminating in betrayal and abandonment.
Today, in the tragedy of a pandemic, in the face of the many false
securities that have now crumbled, in the face of so many hopes
betrayed, in the sense of abandonment that weighs upon our hearts,
Jesus says to each one of us: “Courage, open your heart to my love.
You will feel the consolation of God who sustains you”.</span></p>

Dear brothers and sisters, what can we do in comparison with God,
who served us even to the point of being betrayed and abandoned? We
can refuse to betray him for whom we were created, and not abandon
what really matters in our lives. We were put in this world to love
him and our neighbours. Everything else passes away, only this
remains. The tragedy we are experiencing at this time summons us to
take seriously the things that are serious, and not to be caught up
in those that matter less; to rediscover that life is of no use if
not used to serve others. For life is measured by love. So, in these
holy days, in our homes, let us stand before the Crucified One –
look upon the Crucified One! – the fullest measure of God’s love for
us, and before the God who serves us to the point of giving his
life, and, – fixing our gaze on the Crucified One – let us ask for
the grace to live in order to serve. May we reach out to those who
are suffering and those most in need. May we not be concerned about
what we lack, but what good we can do for others.</span></p>

Behold my servant, whom I uphold. The Father, who sustained Jesus in
his Passion also supports us in our efforts to serve. Loving,
praying, forgiving, caring for others, in the family and in society:
all this can certainly be difficult. It can feel like a via crucis.
But the path of service is the victorious and life giving path by
which we were saved. I would like to say this especially to young
people, on this Day which has been dedicated to them for thirty-five
years now. Dear friends, look at the real heroes who come to light
in these days: they are not famous, rich and successful people;
rather, they are those who are giving themselves in order to serve
others. Feel called yourselves to put your lives on the line. Do not
be afraid to devote your life to God and to others; it pays! For
life is a gift we receive only when we give ourselves away, and our
deepest joy comes from saying yes to love, without ifs and buts. To
truly say yes to love, without ifs and buts. As Jesus did for us.</span></p>
