tháng 7 năm 1917, tại Fatima, Ðức Mẹ đã hiện ra lần thứ
ba với Lucia, Giaxinta, và Phanxicô, cho ba em nhìn thấy
hỏa ngục và những hình phạt mà các linh hồn phải chịu
trong đó. Lucia đã hỏi Ðức Mẹ về số phận của mình, của
hai em Phanxicô và Giaxinta. Ðức Mẹ đã cho biết đối với

Ðức Mẹ nói lý do tại sao lại đòi Phanxicô phải lần hạt
nhiều. Nhưng có thể hiểu một cách đơn sơ rằng, đối với
Phanxicô lần hạt nhiều có nghĩa là cầu nguyện nhiều, bởi
vì việc lần hạt Mân Côi không vượt quá khả năng một em
nhỏ như Phanxicô. Đối với Phanxicô lần hạt chính là một

Côi đã bắt đầu từ thời Trung Cổ. Lễ Mân Côi được Thánh
Giáo Hoàng Piô V (1504-1572) thiết lập vào năm 1571 để
kỷ niệm chiến thắng vịnh Lepanto, ngày 7 tháng 10 năm
1571. Chiến thắng giữa Thập Tự Quân và đạo quân Hồi Giáo
này được cho là do “cánh tay” của Kinh Mân Côi nhiều hơn
là do sức mạnh của khí giới và sự dũng cảm của những
chiến sỹ Đạo Binh Thánh Giá lúc bấy giờ.</span></font></p>

Từ đầu Kinh Mân Côi được coi như một hình thức cầu
nguyện đã được Đức Mẹ trao cho Thánh Đa Minh
(1170-1221), như một khí cụ chống lại lạc giáo Albigensê
và được Thánh Giáo Hoàng Piô V - vị Giáo Hoàng của Dòng
Đa Minh - phổ biến và truyền bá. Chính Ngài đã chính
thức chấp thuận Kinh Mân Côi vào năm 1569 như hình thức
hiện nay qua Tông Sắc <i>Consueverunt Romani.</i> Kinh
Mân Côi đã được hoàn thành bằng cách thêm vào nửa sau
của Kinh Kính Mừng và Kinh Sáng Danh ở phần kết của mỗi
mầu nhiệm.</span></font></p>

Thời Trung cổ, Kinh Mân Côi xuất hiện trong các tu viện
thay thế cho Kinh Thần Vụ dành cho các cư sĩ tại gia và
những cư sĩ mộ đạo không biết đọc. Thay vì đọc 150 thánh
vịnh, họ sẽ cầu nguyện bằng cách đọc 150 “Kinh Lạy Cha”
đếm trên một vòng hạt được gọi là vương miện hoặc “hào
quang”. Thế kỷ thứ mười hai, với sự gia tăng lòng sùng
kính Đức Mẹ, 150 Kinh Lạy Cha được thay thế bằng 150
Kinh Kính Mừng. </span></font></p>

Chuỗi Mân Côi với 150 Kinh Kính Mừng ban đầu được thầy
Henry Kalkar (1328-1408) dòng Đaminh chia thành mười lăm
bài suy niệm về những biến cố trong cuộc đời của Chúa
Giêsu và Mẹ Maria, theo sau mỗi suy niệm là 10 Kinh Kính
Mừng. Sau này thầy Alanus de Rupe (1428-1478) cũng là tu
sỹ Dòng Đaminh đã san định lại các bài suy niệm phù hợp
với các giai đoạn trong lịch sử cứu độ thành các mầu
nhiệm Vui, Thương và Mừng. Theo thầy Alanus, nguồn gốc
của Kinh Mân Côi, lúc đó được gọi là “Thánh thi Đức
Trinh Nữ Maria” là do Đức Mẹ đã ban cho cho Thánh Đa
Minh. Từ đó, sự thúc đẩy hoạt động tông đồ và phổ biến
Kinh Mân Côi được cho là sứ mệnh của Dòng Đa Minh.</span></font></p>

Rosarium Virginis Mariae) đã thêm vào mầu nhiệm Ánh Sáng

qua Mầu Nhiệm Nhập Thể, ta hân hoan về Ơn Cứu Chuộc đã
được ban cho nhân loại qua Ðức Giêsu Kitô. Suy niệm về
cuộc hành trình bác ái của Ðức Maria, khi vượt đồi núi
Giuđêa đến viếng thăm chị họ Isave. Cảm nghiệm tình
thương bao la của Thiên Chúa Nhập Thể qua hình hài con
trẻ nằm rét run trong hang bò lừa tại đồng quê Belem.
Học hỏi đức khiêm nhường và tuân phục của Ðức Maria và
Thánh Giuse khi lên Giêrusalem dâng Ðức Kitô cho Thiên
Chúa. Sau đó, vui mừng với Hai Ðấng khi tìm lại được
Giêsu sau ba ngày lạc mất. </span></font></p>

con người bị đau khổ, bị thử thách mới biết tình Chúa
thương yêu như thế nào. Mới hiểu tại sao Ðức Kitô lại
đau khổ, đổ mồ hôi hòa máu trong vườn Cây Dầu. Tại sao
Ngài để người ta đánh đòn, xỉ vả Ngài. Tại sao Ngài cam
tâm chịu nhục hình trước mặt bọn người tội lỗi. Tại sao
Ngài vác thập giá. Và nhất là tại sao Ngài lại chịu chết

cùng chia vui, xẻ sầu với Ðức Kitô qua các ngả đường
trần gian, trong ơn gọi và cuộc sống của mình, nhờ suy
ngắm, mỗi Kitô hữu sẽ tìm được nguồn vui thiêng liêng
khi nghĩ về cuộc phục sinh vinh quang của Ngài. Nhớ về
Thiên Ðàng khi nhìn ngắm Ðức Kitô về trời, vì Ngài về
trời là để dọn chỗ cho mỗi người chúng ta: “Thầy đi để
dọn chỗ cho các con” (Jn 14:2). Ngày Mẹ Maria được Thiên
Chúa rước về trời và phong làm Nữ Vương trời đất. </span></font></p>

trên sông Giođan. Khi Ngài tham dự tiệc cưới ở Canna với

trở thành tông đồ của Kinh Mân Côi, người ta phải tự
mình cảm nghiệm vẻ đẹp và chiều sâu của lời cầu nguyện
này, là lời cầu nguyện đơn giản và dễ tiếp cận đối với
tất cả mọi người. Trên hết, chúng ta cần được bàn tay
của Đức Trinh Nữ Maria dẫn dắt để chiêm ngưỡng dung nhan
của Chúa Kitô: một khuôn mặt vui tươi, sáng láng, sầu
muộn và vinh quang. Người nào, giống như Đức Maria và
cùng với Mẹ, cố gắng gìn giữ và suy gẫm về các mầu nhiệm
của Chúa Giêsu, ngày càng đồng hóa các cảm xúc của mình
và trở nên phù hợp với Người. Về vấn đề này, tôi muốn
trích dẫn một suy niệm tuyệt đẹp của Chân phước Bartolo
Longo: “Tương tự như vậy, hai người bạn thường gặp nhau
thì rồi ra cũng trở nên giống nhau trong cách sống, cũng
giống như vậy khi nói chuyện thân tình với Chúa Giêsu và
với Đức Trinh Nữ, qua việc suy niệm về các Mầu nhiệm
Kinh Mân Côi, (thực hành <i>Mười lăm ngày Thứ Bảy cầu
nguyện với Kinh Mân Côi</i>, ấn bản 27, Pompeii, 1916,
tr. 27: trích dẫn trong Rosarium Virginis Mariae,

Kinh Mân Côi là một trường học của chiêm niệm và thinh
lặng. Thoạt nhìn, nó có vẻ giống như một lời cầu nguyện
đầy ắp những lời nói, và do đó khó hòa hợp với sự im
lặng vốn được khuyến khích chính xác cho việc tĩnh tâm
và chiêm niệm. Trong thực tế, sự lặp lại nhịp nhàng này
của Kinh Kính Mừng <i>Ave Maria</i> không làm xáo trộn
sự tĩnh lặng bên trong mà trái lại đòi hỏi và nuôi dưỡng
nó. Cũng giống như cách đối với Thánh Vịnh, khi người ta
cầu nguyện các Giờ kinh Phụng vụ, sự im lặng xuất hiện
qua các từ và các câu, không phải như một khoảng trống,
nhưng như một sự hiện diện của ý nghĩa tối thượng vượt
qua chính lời nói và tiếng nói. Vì vậy, bằng cách đọc
kinh Kính Mừng <i>Ave Maria</i>, chúng ta phải cẩn thận
để tiếng nói của mình không “che lấp” tiếng nói của
Thiên Chúa, Đấng luôn luôn nói qua sự im lặng, như
“tiếng gió nhẹ” (I <i>Các Vua</i> 19:12). Vậy thì việc
quan tâm đến sự im lặng tràn đầy Thiên Chúa này quan
trọng biết bao, cả trong việc đọc kinh cá nhân và cộng
đồng! Ngay cả khi nó được các cộng đoàn đông đảo cầu
nguyện, như ngày nay, và như bạn làm hàng ngày trong
Thánh địa này, cần phải coi kinh Mân Côi như một lời cầu
nguyện chiêm niệm, và điều này không thể xảy ra nếu
không có im lặng nội tâm.</span></font></p>

Cha muốn bổ túc thêm một suy tư khác, liên quan đến Lời
Chúa trong kinh Mân Côi, đặc biệt đúng vào thời điểm này
khi Thượng Hội Đồng Giám Mục đang diễn ra tại
Vatican với chủ đề: “Lời Chúa trong đời sống và trong sứ
mệnh của Giáo Hội”. Nếu việc chiêm niệm của người Kitô
hữu không thể thực hiện được mà không có Lời Chúa, thì
Kinh Mân Côi, để trở thành lời cầu nguyện chiêm niệm,
luôn phải phát sinh từ sự thinh lặng của trái tim như
một lời đáp lại Lời, theo khuôn mẫu lời cầu nguyện của
Mẹ Maria. Khi xem xét kỹ hơn, chuỗi mân côi được dệt
hoàn toàn bằng các yếu tố lấy từ Kinh thánh. Trước hết,
có sự thông báo về các mầu nhiệm, tốt hơn là được thực
hiện như ngày nay, bằng những từ được trích từ Kinh
thánh. Làm theo <i>Cha của chúng ta</i>: bằng cách cho
lời cầu nguyện theo hướng “thẳng đứng”, nó mở tâm trí
của người đọc Kinh Mân Côi để họ có thái độ hiếu thảo
đúng đắn, theo lời mời gọi của Chúa: “Khi anh em cầu
nguyện, hãy nói: Lạy Cha ...” (<i>Luca</i> 11, 2). Phần
đầu tiên của Kinh Kính Mừng <i>Ave Maria</i> , cũng
trích từ Phúc Âm, mỗi lần như vậy khiến chúng ta phải
lắng nghe lại những lời Thiên Chúa đã nói với Đức Trinh
Nữ qua Thiên thần, và những lời chúc phúc cho Mẹ từ
người chị họ Isave. Phần thứ hai của Kinh Kính Mừng <i>Ave
Maria </i>vang vọng như một lời đáp từ những người con,
những người đang khẩn cầu Mẹ, không làm gì khác hơn là
bày tỏ sự gắn bó của họ với kế hoạch cứu độ được Đức
Chúa Trời bày tỏ. Vì vậy, tư tưởng về người cầu nguyện
luôn được neo chặt trong Kinh thánh và trong những mầu

Bênađô, vị thánh thời danh của Ðức Mẹ có thói quen dùng
lời chào của Tổng Thần Gabrien để chào mừng Ðức Mẹ. Mỗi
lần khi đi qua tượng ảnh Mẹ tại tu viện, Bênađô cúi đầu
và nói: “Ave Maria” - kính chào Maria. Cảm khích về lời
chào và tấm lòng yêu mến đó, một hôm sau khi Bênađô vừa
chào mừng Ðức Mẹ, liền được nghe Ðức Mẹ chào lại: “Ave
Benado” - chào Bênađô. Vì lòng sốt sắng mến yêu luôn
thôi thúc trong lòng thánh nhân, ngài được cho là đã
thêm vào cuối kinh Lạy Nữ Vương những lời này: “Ôi khoan
thay! nhân thay! dịu thay! Thánh Maria trọn đời đồng

tháng 5 năm 1981, Ngài đã được cứu thoát một cách nhiệm
mầu khi bị ám sát tại quảng trường Thánh Phêrô. Ngài
thâm tín rằng trong biến cố đó, mạng sống Ngài được duy
trì là do bàn tay của Ðức Mẹ. Và Ngài đã bày tỏ lòng
biết ơn Ðức Mẹ bằng cuộc hành hương Fatima một năm sau,
vào ngày 13 tháng 5 năm 1982. Trên mũ triều thiên của
Ðức Mẹ Fatima, giữa những viên kim cương lóng lánh, là
một đầu đạn mà kẻ ám sát đã bắn vào vị Giáo Hoàng, như
dấu chứng hùng hồn về sự săn sóc và yêu thương đặc biệt
của Ðức Mẹ dành cho Ngài. Ta hãy nghe lời của Ngài trong
Tông Huấn Sứ Ðiệp Mục Vụ Các Gia Ðình: “Cha mời gọi tất
cả hãy lần hạt Mân Côi, đường lối thiết yếu nuôi dưỡng

cách đẹp lòng Ngài trong Kinh Lạy Cha - kinh nguyện duy

Thiên sứ của Thiên Chúa đã chào mừng Ðức Mẹ. Những lời

là lời ca ngợi vinh quang Ba Ngôi Thiên Chúa từ muôn

mừng vì được chúc tụng Thiên Chúa chí tôn, đầy tình

Thánh trẻ Phanxicô, nếu ta muốn đạt tới đích của đời
sống, muốn chiếm hữu được vĩnh cửu, thì chắc chắn phải
siêng năng lần hạt. Lần hạt mỗi ngày. Lần hạt một mình.
Lần hạt chung với nhau trong gia đình. Khi một mình trên
xe bus. Một mình trên xe từ nhà tới sở, và từ sở về nhà.
Lúc rảnh rỗi hay trên giường bệnh. Khi gặp những thử
thách, đau khổ mà không biết than thở với ai. Nhờ suy
ngắm những mầu nhiệm Mân Côi, ta sẽ biết hy sinh, khiêm
nhường, nhẫn nại như Chúa Giêsu và Mẹ Maria. Ta sẽ hiểu
Thiên Chúa muốn mình sống như thế nào. </span></font></p>

nguyện để khỏi sa chước cám dỗ” (Mt 26:41). Lời Ðức Kitô
nói xưa không có luật trừ cho bất cứ ai. Nó không phải

một mệnh lệnh, một điều kiện. Lời Ngài là lời hằng sống,

ngày dài hạnh phúc, vui tươi, phấn khởi và thơ mộng như

trong các tiểu thuyết. Những câu chuyện như thế chỉ có
tác dụng làm quên đi thực tế của cuộc đời, hơn là giúp

có thể nói mình hoàn toàn hạnh phúc, hoặc hoàn toàn bất
