Chúa đã sai Con mình đến" (Galata 4:4). Người Con được Người Cha sai
đến đã cắm lều của Người tại Bêlem ở Ephrathah, "một thành nhỏ bé
trong các chi họ Giuđa" (Mica 5:1); Người đã sống ở Nazarét, một
tỉnh lỵ chẳng bao giờ được nhắc đến trong Thánh Kinh, nếu không muốn
nói rằng: "Có gì hay ở Nazarét đâu?" (Gioan 1:46), và Người đã chết,
đã bị loại trừ bởi đại đô Giêrusalem, bị đóng đanh ở bên ngoài các
tường thành của nó. Ý muốn của Người đã quá rõ ràng, đó là để mạc
khải tình yêu của mình, Người đã chọn một thành phố nhỏ bé và là một
thành phố bị coi thường, và khi Người tiến tới Giêrusalem thì Người
liên kết với thành phần tội nhân và những kẻ bị tẩy chay. Không có
một cư dân nào của thành phố này đã nhận ra rằng Con Thiên Chúa Làm
Người đã bước đi trên các con đường của họ, có lẽ bao gồm cả các môn
đệ của Người, những vị mà chỉ nhờ cuộc Phục Sinh mới hoàn toàn hiểu
được Mầu Nhiệm này nơi Chúa Giêsu. Những lời nói và các dấu hiệu cứu
độ được Người thực hiện trong thành phố này chỉ khơi lên những gì là
bàng hoàng sửng sốt và nhiệt liệt trong chốc lát, thế nhưng, chúng
vẫn là những gì chưa được nắm bắt trọn vẹn hết ý nghĩa của chúng:
bởi thế mà chúng không còn được nhớ đến nữa, khi vị tổng trấn Roma
đặt vấn đề rằng "Các ngươi muốn ta tha cho Giêsu hay Barbabas?" Chúa
Giêsu bị đóng đanh ngoài thành, trên đồi cao Golgota, bị lên án bởi
ánh mắt của tất cả cư dân và bị chế diễu bởi những lời bình phẩm mỉa
mai. Tuy nhiên, từ đó, từ cây thập tự giá đó, một cây sự sống mới
đó, mà quyền năng của Thiên Chúa lôi kéo tất cả mọi người đến với
Ngài. Và cả Người Mẹ của Thiên Chúa nữa, <em>Người Mẹ Sầu Bi - the
Addolorata, </em>ở dưới cây thập tự giá này, sắp sửa vươn đến tất cả
mọi người mối tình mẫu tử của Mẹ. Người Mẹ của Thiên Chúa này là
Người Mẹ của Giáo Hội, và nỗi êm ái dịu dàng mẫu tử của Mẹ là những

phố ấy..., và từ đó Người không bao giờ bỏ đi! Việc hiện diện của
Người trong thành phố này, cũng như trong thành phố Roma của chúng
ta đây, không phải là những gì tạo ra, mà là được khám phá ra, được
mạc khải cho biết (Tông Huấn Niềm Vui Phúc Âm, 71). <span
style="color: rgb(128, 0, 128)">Chính chúng ta là thành phần cần phải xin
Thiên Chúa ơn có được cặp mắt mới, có khả năng của "một ánh mắt
chiêm ngưỡng, tức là một cái nhìn đức tin thấy được Thiên Chúa ở
trong nhà của chúng ta, ở trên đường phố của chúng ta, ở trong các
Quảng trường của chúng ta" (Ibid, 71)</span>. Trong Thánh Kinh, các
vị tiên tri cảnh giác chúng ta về khuynh hướng muốn gán ghép việc
hiện diện của Thiên Chúa với Đền Thờ mà thôi (Jeremia 7:4). Ngài ngự
ở giữa Dân của Ngài; Ngài bước đi với họ và sống đời sống của họ.
Lòng trung thành của Ngài là những gì cụ thể; nó gần gũi với cuộc
sống hằng ngày của con cái Ngài. Trái lại, </font><span
style="color: rgb(128, 0, 128)"><font style="font-size: 16pt">khi Thiên Chúa
muốn canh tân lại tất cả mọi sự qua Con của Ngài, thì Ngài không bắt
đầu với Đền Thờ, mà là từ cung lòng của một người nữ bé mọn và nghèo
hèn trong Dân của Ngài. Việc chọn lựa này của Thiên Chúa thật là phi

147, Thánh Vịnh chúng ta mới cầu nguyện xong, vị Thánh Vịnh gia mời
gọi Jerusalem hãy tôn vinh Thiên Chúa, vì "Ngài ban truyền mệnh lệnh
của Ngài xuống trái đất; và Lời của Ngài mau mắn chạy nhanh" (câu
15). Nhờ Thần Linh của mình, Đấng thông đạt Lời của Ngài trong hết
mọi cõi lòng của con người, Thiên Chúa chúc phúc cho con cái của
Ngài, và phấn khích họ hoạt động cho hòa bình trong thành phố này.
Tôi muốn ánh mắt của chúng ta về thành phố Roma này tối hôm nay biết
nhìn vào các sự vật theo chiều hướng ánh mắt của Thiên Chúa. Chúa
hoan hỉ khi thấy biết bao nhiêu là thực tại tốt lành được thành tựu
hằng ngày, biết bao nhiêu là nỗ lực và bao nhiêu là dấn thân được
thực hiên để cổ võ tình huynh đệ và mối đoàn kết. Roma chẳng những
là một thành phố phức tạp, với nhiều vấn đề, nhiều chênh lệch, băng
hoại, và các thứ căng thẳng về xã hội. Roma còn là một thành phố
được Thiên Chúa sai Lời của Ngài tới, Lời mà nhờ Thần Linh làm tổ
trong cõi lòng của những cư dân Roma và thúc đẩy họ tin tưởng, thôi
thúc họ hy vọng bất chấp tất cả mọi sự, thúc động họ yêu thương bằng
việc tranh đấu cho thiện ích của tất cả mọi người.</font></p>

biểu cho "cõi lòng rung nhịp" của Roma. Thật vậy, Thiên Chúa không
bao giờ ngừng thay đổi lịch sử và bộ mặt của thành phố chúng ta đây,
qua thành phần những con người bé mọn và những con người nghèo hèn
đang cư ngụ ở thành phố này. Ngài chọn họ, tác động họ, thúc đẩy họ
hành động, làm cho họ liên kết; Ngài thúc đẩy họ khởi động các hệ
thống, tạo nên những mối liên hệ đức hạnh, thiết lập các cây cầu nối
chứ không phải là những bức tường ngăn cách. Thật vậy, chính nhờ cả
ngàn những thông mạch của nước hằng sống Thần Linh mà Lời Chúa làm
cho thành phố này trở thành phì nhiêu, và từ tình trạng cằn cỗi nó
biến thành "người mẹ hân hoan của một đàn con" (Thánh Vịnh 113:9).</font></span></p>

Giáo Hội ở Roma? Ngài đã ký thác Lời của Ngài cho chúng ta và thúc
đẩy chúng ta xông pha vào tình trạng xung đột, tham gia vào việc gặp
gỡ và mối liên hệ với các cư dân của thành phố này, để nhờ đó mà "sứ
điệp của Ngài mau mắn chạy". Chúng ta được kêu gọi để gặp gỡ người
khác và lắng nghe cuộc sống của họ, tiếng kêu xin cứu giúp của họ. <span
style="color: rgb(128, 0, 128)">Việc lắng nghe đã là một tác động của lòng
yêu thương! Việc giành giờ cho người khác, việc đối thoại, việc nhận
biết, bằng ánh mắt chiêm ngưỡng, sự hiện diện và tác động của Thiên
Chúa trong đời sống của mình, việc làm chứng bằng việc làm hơn là
lời nói sự sống mới của Phúc Âm, thật sự là một dịch vụ của tình yêu
thay đổi thực tại.</span> Thật thế, nhờ làm như vậy mới có được một
luồng khí mới luân lưu trong thành phố này cũng như trong Giáo Hội,
mới có ước muốn bắt đầu lại, mới thắng vượt được những lý lẽ chống
đối và rào cản cổ xưa, mới hợp tác với nhau, trong việc xây dựng một
thành phố công bằng và huynh đệ hơn. </font></p>
