Trong điều kiện bình thường, nước tiểu không có glucose. Khi đường huyết
lên quá mức trung bình, thận sẽ thải glucose trong nước tiểu và có thể
đo được.</span></font></p>

Trước đây, khi chưa có máy đo đường huyết, thử glucose trong nước tiểu
là phương tiện thường dùng. </span></font></p>

Dụng cụ thử chỉ giản dị có que thử có thấm một hóa chất đặc biệt. Khi
nhúng que vào nước tiểu, hóa chất này sẽ tác dụng với glucose và làm
thay đổi mầu của que. So sánh mầu này với mầu mẫu trên hộp đựng que thử
để biết mức độ glucose trong nước tiểu.</span></font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in; margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 0">

Cách thử này không trung thực lắm vì chỉ cho biết kết quả khi đường
huyết lên cao trên 180mh/dl. Như vậy khi đường huyết thấp thì không thử
được.</span></font></p>

Ngoài ra, nước tiểu có thể nằm trong bọng đái nhiều giờ trước khi tiểu
tiện và thử, nên không phản ảnh lượng đường trong máu khi thử.
