Gậy là dụng cụ chống đỡ cho cơ thể khỏi té ngã, như trường hợp của
ông. Khi sắm gậy, cần mua loại mà chiều dài của gậy phải vừa tầm
người: Khi đứng thẳng người, tay buông thõng, cán gậy phải ngang với
cổ tay, khi nắm cán gậy thì khuỷu tay phải cong từ 15 tới 20 độ.

Nếu cần dùng gậy vì đau chân trái thì cầm gậy bằng tay mặt và ngược
lại. Khi bước đi thì gậy và chân đau phải chuyển động cùng một lúc.</span></p>

Bước lên cầu thang bằng chân không đau trước, rồi chống gậy và bước
chân đau lên bậc thang, liên tiếp như vậy cho đến cuối bậc thang. Đi
xuống thì làm ngược laị, nghĩa là chống gậy và đặt chân đau xuống
bậc thang trước rồi mới di chuyển chân không đau. </span></p>

Nhiều người thích gậy có cán cổ ngỗng hơn loại cán cong, vì với loại
