Có lẽ chúng ta đã nghe nói nhiều đến việc truyền giáo. Và thường chúng
ta nghĩ rằng đó là việc của các linh mục, các nam nữ tu sĩ, của tiểu ban
truyền giáo, hay của một số người có ơn gọi đặc biệt như Thánh Phaolô,
Thánh Phanxicô Xaviê,… chứ chẳng phải là việc của mình. Tuy nhiên,
truyền giáo là ơn gọi, là trách nhiệm gắn liền với mọi người Kitô hữu.
Bao lâu còn là Kitô hữu, bấy lâu còn phải loan báo Tin Mừng. Có thể
chúng ta không có khả năng lôi kéo, thuyết phục để cho người khác theo
đạo, nhưng “nói” cho người khác biết về đạo bằng chứng tá đời sống thì
ai ai cũng có thể làm được. Vậy chứng tá cụ thể đó là gì?</span></p>

Đây là hoạt động đi đầu và không thể thiếu trong việc loan báo Tin Mừng.
Nhìn thấy gương chúng ta cầu nguyện, gương chúng ta hy sinh, người ta sẽ
được đánh động, được cảm hoá. Nếu đời sống tâm linh của chúng ta được
cắm rễ sâu trong đời sống cầu nguyện hy sinh, thì mọi việc ta làm đều có
giá trị truyền giáo, đều có khả năng làm cho người khác nhận biết Chúa
và đem lại rất nhiều lợi ích cho các linh hồn. Như vậy, ngồi ở nhà,
chúng ta vẫn có thể truyền giáo. Về điểm này, Thánh nữ Têrêsa Hài đồng
Giêsu là mẫu gương tuyệt vời cho chúng ta noi theo. Ngài nói: “Dù cúi
xuống nhặt một cây kim vì lòng yêu mến Chúa, tôi cũng có thể cứu được
một linh hồn”.</span></p>

Không ai có thể nói là tôi không có thì giờ để cầu nguyện. Không ai có
thể nói là tôi không có cơ hội để hy sinh. Và để rèn luyện được nếp sống
thấm nhuần tinh thần cầu nguyện hy sinh, có sức giới thiệu Đức Kitô cho
người khác, thiết tưởng chúng ta có thể nhờ đến Chuỗi Kinh Mân Côi. Nhờ
Mẹ dẫn chúng ta bước đi từng bước nhỏ trên đường vâng phục thánh ý Chúa
và phục vụ các linh hồn.</span></p>

Truyền giáo bằng việc giảng dạy, bằng sách báo, bằng các lớp Giáo lý,
bằng các lễ nghi, bằng các hoạt động tôn giáo, thực tế là rất cần. Nhưng
cách truyền giáo hữu hiệu nữa là chính nếp sống đạo đức nổi trội của
chúng ta về sự hiệp nhất yêu thương: “Người ta cứ dấu này mà nhận biết
anh em là môn đệ của Thầy: là anh em hãy thương yêu nhau”. Tình yêu
thương hiệp nhất ấy được thể hiện qua cách suy nghĩ, cách phán đoán,
cách chọn lựa, cách đối xử, cách phản ứng, cách hiện diện, cách phục vụ
nói năng, ăn uống, giải trí, cách dùng thời giờ, sức khoẻ, của cải,…</span></p>

Những dấu chỉ yêu thương hiệp nhất giữa mọi người trong gia đình, trong
hội đoàn, trong giáo họ, giáo xứ là dấu chỉ loan báo Tin Mừng hữu hiệu
nhất, giá trị nhất. Ngược lại, nếu thiếu tình bác ái yêu thương thì
những việc tông đồ truyền giáo sẽ phản tác dụng. Xin dẫn chứng:</span></p>

Một cô gái ngoại giáo lấy người Công giáo, láng giềng, bà con thấy cô ta
đẹp người đẹp nết, nên giục cô ta vào đạo. Cô ta trả lời: “Khi nào cháu
thấy đạo Chúa hơn đạo Phật, cháu mới vào”. Tìm hiểu, người ta mới biết
được bà mẹ chồng dù rất siêng năng đọc kinh, dự lễ và đã từng bỏ ra gần
cả một chục triệu bạc cùng với nhiều bà khác giúp cha sở đi Roma xin ơn
Đức Giáo hoàng, nhưng bà đã từng sang giật nồi, lấy niêu của một bà hàng
xóm nghèo chưa có tiền trả nợ cho bà. Cô dâu in trong lòng hình ảnh
không tốt về mẹ chồng và về đạo. Do đó cô nhất quyết không theo đạo bao
lâu chưa thấy người theo đạo sống tốt hơn.</span></p>

Một khi tất cả nếp sống của chúng ta phảng phất hương thơm của tình hiệp
nhất yêu thương thì dù ở đâu, nếp sống ấy cũng là truyền giáo.</span></p>

Ngày hôm nay, xã hội đang phải đối diện với biết bao tệ nạn, môi trường
sống bị ô nhiễm trầm trọng, các giá trị đạo đức luân lý bị băng hoại.
Chính vì thế, nỗ lực của xã hội là xây dựng nếp sống lành mạnh, có văn
hoá, văn minh. Đi đâu chúng ta cũng thấy có các bảng hiệu “khu phố văn
hoá”, “thôn văn hoá, ấp văn hoá”…, lẽ nào chúng ta lại đứng ngoài, lẽ
nào chúng ta lại không chung tay góp sức mình vào việc đó. Dĩ nhiên, nền
văn hoá mà chúng ta phải xây dựng không phải là văn hoá sự chết, văn hoá
tiêu diệt sự sống, mà là nền văn hoá bảo vệ và thăng tiến sự sống, sự
sống ngay từ khi còn trong lòng mẹ. Nền văn minh mà chúng ta phải kiến
tạo không phải là văn minh của nền khoa học kỹ thuật khô cứng hay của
chủ nghĩa duy vật hưởng thụ cực đoan, mà là nền văn minh của tình
thương, nền văn minh của lòng bao dung tha thứ.</span></p>

Như mọi người khác, người Công giáo cũng đang hiện diện tại mọi môi
trường xã hội hôm nay. Chúng ta cũng làm ăn sinh sống trong mọi lĩnh
vực: kinh doanh, sản xuất, buôn bán… với mọi hoàn cảnh từ thương gia đến
kỹ sư, bác sĩ, giáo viên, công nhân viên. Cũng làm việc, cũng mưu sinh,
nhưng chúng ta làm việc với tinh thần khác: tinh thần công bình bác ái
và phục vụ hy sinh.</span></p>

Xin Chúa cho mỗi người chúng ta luôn ý thức được sứ mạng truyền giáo
bằng chứng tá của mình, đặc biệt trong Năm Đức Tin, để ra sức sống tinh
thần cầu nguyện hy sinh, yêu thương hiệp nhất, đồng thời nỗ lực xây dựng
một cuộc sống tốt đạo đẹp đời hầu cho danh Chúa được ngày một cả sáng
