Bài Tin mừng hôm nay như là một câu chuyện lãng mạn kể về một “chàng thanh
niên” giữa trưa nóng bức gặp một phụ nữ và xin cô cho uống nước, trong một
hoàn cảnh khác biệt quê hương, chủng tộc, văn hóa, tôn giáo và vượt qua cả
những cấm đoán gặp gỡ. Thật ra, đây có thể chỉ là một câu chuyện ngụ ngôn về
cuộc đời mà nhóm tác giả Tin Mừng thứ tư đã khéo léo trình bày để chuyển tải
ý nghĩa về khát vọng vô biên và về cách thờ phượng Thiên Chúa đích thực.</span></p>

Có những khát khao làm cho cuộc sống của con người tốt hơn sau khi đạt được,
nhưng cũng không thiếu gì những thỏa mãn làm cho tình trạng của con người
trở nên tồi tệ hơn. Con người sinh ra trong giới hạn, nhưng lại mang một
khát vọng vô hạn. Và để thỏa mãn cơn khát đó, kẻ thì đánh lừa mình bằng cách
tạo ra những thần tượng để tôn thờ và họ sẽ thất vọng, kẻ thì tìm cách lấp
đầy khao khát đó bằng cách lăn xả vào những khoái lạc vật chất… nhưng rồi
thấy chán chường, không bao giờ thấy thỏa mãn. Chúa Giêsu đã nói với người
thiếu phụ Samari:<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><em style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px">"Ai
uống nước giếng nầy, sẽ vẫn còn khát…”</em>, thứ nước này không giải khát
hoàn toàn, nó vừa xoa dịu cơn khát, vừa duy trì và kích thích cơn khát.</span></p>

Hình ảnh người phụ nữ Samari sống tới năm đời chồng (mà vẫn nói không có
chồng) và thậm chí là người thứ sáu đang sống với chị vẫn không phải chồng
chị (x. Ga 4,17-18), có lẽ là một ý nghĩa mang tính biểu tượng: dân Israel
đã qua bao đời chủ vẫn chưa có một ông Chủ đích thực, cuộc đời con người tôn
thờ bao nhiêu chủ, nhưng không có gì làm thỏa mãn cơn khát đích thực.</span></p>

Người phụ nữ xứ Samari đã mưu tìm hạnh phúc qua nhiều đời chồng nhưng rồi
chẳng ai trong họ có thể đem lại cho chị hạnh phúc thực sự trong cuộc đời.
Chị đi tìm hạnh phúc cũng y như đi múc nước. Ngày nào cũng phải lặn lội tìm
đến giếng nước xa, múc cho đầy vò rồi ngày hôm sau lại khát và tiếp tục đội
vò đi tiếp. Dù chưa nhận ra, nhưng chị vẫn thao thức và bị dày vò vì một cơn
khát nào đó mà những mối tình trần tục đã không giải khát nổi, đã không làm
dịu đi sự thèm khát chút nào, càng đi sâu vào biển tình, chị càng thấy thiếu
thốn.</span></p>

Hình ảnh người phụ nữ Samari ngày ngày ôm vò đi kín nước, cùng với phương
tiện là cái gầu để múc nước từ giếng sâu, là hình ảnh cơn khát vẫn còn đó,
và dù cho con người làm ra đủ thứ phương tiện để thỏa mãn khát vọng, nhưng
chẳng bao giờ hết khát. Kẻ nghèo muốn được giàu, kẻ giàu muốn giàu thêm và
cứ thế tìm kiếm. Có thể nói, đói khát vàng bạc, giầu sang chỉ là một trong
muôn vàn cơn đói khát đang hành hạ và giết chết hàng vạn người. Có biết bao
cơn khát của đam mê lầm lạc, của thú vui xác thịt, của tiền tài danh vọng đã
đẩy bao người vào hố sâu của vực thẳm. Càng ngụp lặn trong vực thẳm, càng
làm cho họ trở nên điên rồ đánh mất nhân cách, đánh mất tính người. Họ đã
lầm, vì tất cả những thứ đó không bao giờ làm thoả mãn cơn khát trong lòng
họ. Vì được voi đòi tiên, vì lòng tham vô đáy. Giếng sâu của lòng tham chỉ
làm cho con người thất vọng, chán chường.</span></p>

Ai mà chẳng biết cái chu kỳ quỷ quái của dục vọng, luôn luôn tái phát, chẳng
bao giờ no thỏa. Ai lại không cảm thấy nhu cầu được thỏa mãn cứ trào lên vô
tận, thúc đẩy mình hưởng thụ cách nào đó: càng khát lại càng uống, càng uống
lại càng khát… Cha Anthony de Mello cũng nhận định tương tự:<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><em style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px">"Việc
thoả mãn dục vọng không giải thoát chúng ta khỏi dục vọng, nhưng tạo thêm
một dục vọng khác còn mãnh liệt hơn để rồi cái vòng lẩn quẩn: khát khao -
thoả mãn, thoả mãn - khát khao... cứ tiếp diễn mãi không cùng... lại càng
ngày càng tăng ‘đô’ hơn. Và cứ thế, người ta phải chịu dày vò, thiêu đốt vì
sự ngọn lửa khao khát trong lòng mình”.</em></span></p>

Chung quy lại, những cái khát vật chất thì không bao giờ có thể làm thỏa mãn
được con người bao gồm thể xác và tâm hồn, bao hàm tinh thần và vật chất,
nên cần đến cái vĩnh cửu. Nghĩa là ngoài cơn khát tự nhiên và bản năng, con
người còn có những khao khát mà không có gì trên thế gian có thể làm cho họ
được no thoả. Người ta gọi đây là khát vọng vô biên. Đây là cơn khát về mặt
tâm linh nên chẳng có thứ nước nào trên đời có thể làm dịu bớt.</span></p>

nữa. Và nước tôi cho sẽ trở thành nơi người ấy một mạch nước vọt lên, đem

Phải chỉ có chính Chúa Kitô là Thiên Chúa mới lấp đầy được cơn khát vô biên,
bởi khi có được Thiên Chúa, con người không còn mải lo tìm kiếm những gì
chóng qua nữa. Điều này thật đúng như thánh Augustinô xưa, sau một khoảng
đời đi tìm kiếm danh vọng, địa vị, tiền tài, tình yêu, hạnh phúc, cuối cùng
đã chán ngán, ăn năn sám hối trở lại với Chúa và đã thốt lên:<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><em style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px">"Lạy
Chúa, Chúa dựng nên con cho Chúa, thế mà bấy lâu nay con chỉ mải mê tìm kiếm
cái gì khác ở ngoài Chúa. Vì vậy lòng con luôn băn khoăn thao thức mãi cho
đến khi được an nghỉ trong Chúa. Lạy Chúa, con đã biết Chúa quá muộn! Con đã
yêu Chúa muộn quá rồi!”.</em></span></p>

Người phụ nữ Samari hằng ngày vẫn đến giếng lấy nước, đã uống nước, đã gặp
gỡ biết bao người, đã ở với bao đời chồng, nhưng khát vẫn hoàn khát. Hôm nay
chỉ khi nghe được “Lời Sự Sống” từ Chúa Giêsu, chị mới nhận ra đâu là sự
thật về chính mình và chị đã được biến đổi; chị đã biết thờ phượng Thiên
Chúa thế nào cho đúng, và đâu mới là Thần Khí và sự thật.</span></p>

Với sự khéo léo trình bày của Tin Mừng, điều mà ta dễ dàng nhận thấy được
nơi đây là Chúa Giêsu đã cùng lúc xóa đi được hai sự ngăn cách, đó là: Sự kỳ
thị chủng tộc Do-thái – Samari và sự khác biệt giữa sống đạo “trong nhà thờ”
với sống đạo “trong Thần Khí”.</span></p>

Những sự kỳ thị này có từ khi hai miền Nam Bắc Do-thái phân tranh (-931),
phía Bắc (có thủ đô là Samari) đã dựng bàn thờ bò vàng thay cho việc thờ
Thiên Chúa (x. 1V 12, 26-33); rồi đến khi Israel (miền Bắc) bị lưu đày
(-721), vua Assyri đã đem các nhóm dân khác đến vùng đất thủ đô miền Bắc lúc
bấy giờ là Samaria để cư ngụ, từ đó trở thành một dân đa tạp đa văn hóa và
tôn giáo. Từ những điều đó mà người Do-thái có lý do để khinh miệt coi
Samari là “lạc đạo”, là “lai căng”, là miền đất của ô uế và họ đưa ra “vạ
tuyệt thông” cho nhau: Do-thái đặt luật cấm người “đạo gốc” không được tiếp
xúc với quân “ngoại đạo” để tránh nhiễm uế; còn Samaria thì cấm cản người
Do-thái đi lại qua vùng đất của họ, mà phải đi đường vòng. Vì thế mà hôm
nay, người phụ nữ quá ngỡ ngàng vì Chúa Giêssu đến xin chị nước uống, nhưng
Chúa Giêsu đã đi bước trước để phá vỡ rào cản mà lâu nay vẫn trói buộc giữa
hai bên. Hành động của Chúa Giêsu làm cho người phụ nữ không khỏi ngạc
nhiên:<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><em style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px">"Ông
là người Do-thái, mà lại xin tôi, một phụ nữ Samari, cho ông nước uống sao?”</em><span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>(Ga
4,9). </span></p>

Người phụ nữ Samaria ở đây không thuộc một tôn giáo ngoại lai, nhưng có
nguồn gốc đạo Do-thái từ ngày phân tranh Nam Bắc lưu truyền. Chị tin Thiên
Chúa của tổ phụ Abraham như người Do-thái Giuđê, nhưng “không đi lễ nhà thờ
Giêrusalem”, mà là đi lễ nhà thờ xây trên núi của người Samari có từ ngày ly
khai tôn giáo. Gặp được Chúa Giêsu, người phụ nữ không chỉ muốn Người làm
trọng tài trả lời câu hỏi về sự khác biệt văn hóa và tôn giáo, mà còn là câu
hỏi cách thức thờ phượng Thiên Chúa:<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><em style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px">"Thưa
ông, tôi thấy ông thật là một ngôn sứ. .. Cha ông chúng tôi đã thờ phượng
Thiên Chúa trên núi này; còn các ông lại bảo: Giê-ru-sa-lem mới chính là nơi
phải thờ phượng Thiên Chúa." Đức Giê-su phán: "Này chị, hãy tin tôi: đã đến
giờ các người sẽ thờ phượng Chúa Cha, không phải trên núi này hay tại
Giê-ru-sa-lem”</em><span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>(Ga
4,19-21). </span></p>

Chúa Giêsu đã đưa ra lời giải đáp khẳng định rằng Thiên Chúa không bao giờ
